Psychiatric nursing... do you really lose all your nursing skills?
I started working per diem at the behavioral health unit and I absolutely love it! I've always had a thing for psych even when I was in school so I'm really pumped I got it. As for the skills.. I was just thinking about that last night on the evening shift but then I was like, yup, my skills can "get lost" lol! It will come back quicker than you think! You'll never forget to *insert clinical skill here*. If you do, there are instructions on the packaging. If there are no instructions on the packaging, ask someone for help :) most of the nurses will help you no questions asked because that's our jam!

Nursing managers: what are you looking for in a staff nurse?
I interviewed for a psych position and the hiring manager said he wanted someone with experience so they can "hit the ground running". This totally discouraged me. I'm so bummed out. How do I get experience if no one wants to give me experience? I want to be in psych, I don't want to be in the other units. I know beggars can't be choosers but how do I show them that I'm going to hit the ground running?

Nursing managers: what are you looking for in a staff nurse?
What are you looking for? Experience? Passion? Straight A's? Also, what do you consider as a "weakness"? I just want to get a sense of what psych nurse managers are looking for since this is where I want to be. I want to end up in psych nursing! Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Meet nursing managers or wait for HR?
Hi! I'm trying to get out of LTC.. Lol I'm trying to get into the hospital or a clinic, which is my first choice.

Meet nursing managers or wait for HR?
I'd hate to make me seem "entitled" but I don't know what else to do. I don't really know when to follow up, HR keeps telling me my application is still valid & that I don't need to resubmit. It's very frustrating. I just want to know if I have a shot, at least deny me like some others do lol I really want to quit my current job, but I'm scared that if I do, the gap in my experience will be frowned upon. Any takes on that? It's messing with my health, relationships & my sanity

Meet nursing managers or wait for HR?
They use paper applications & they're very laborious to do, wish they did online apps! Lol! I know of a nurse that works in the hospital but not at the units there are openings for. I wish there was some other way for me to meet & follow up.

Meet nursing managers or wait for HR?
Hello everyone, just wanted to ask something: is it ok to show up unannounced to nursing units and try to meet with nurse managers or is that borderline weird? Lol I've been applying to this hospital for what seems like forever & I've never gotten a call back. I've dropped my application off and follow up with HR accordingly but I never get anywhere. I see openings on their website & follow up with HR all the time. They said I don't need to reapply & I'm getting sick of it. I want to go into the units & maybe talk to the nursing managers. Is this a good idea or not? Thanks for all your help.

New Grad RN still no job
Have you tried nursing homes in your area? I know it's not the most feasible place to start but it's RN experience and it's paid :) (this is what I tell myself lololol) I also felt the same way-- people thinking I was lazy or picky but it's the total opposite. Now that I'm working.. I miss being funemployed! Hahahahha! There are opportunities in Alaska & Hawaii, if you're willing to go this far!

New Grad RN still no job
I first obtained my license to a different state before applying, just so they know you're serious. Pick a state or two or get the compact one and apply to those. :) which state were you planning to apply to?

I want to quit.
Thank you! Does it need 1 year experience? I'd like to get into school nursing too, much better fit than ltc.

I want to quit.
I guess I'm afraid of quitting because I don't have a backup plan. It will be like, ok, I quit, now what? Do I continue being a nurse even if I'm already burnt out or do I just stick it out for the sake of being a nurse? I've already wasted 8+ years of my life waiting to get into nursing school, looking for a job, etc and I just feel sad for myself lol I don't know what to do. Thank you for the encouragement.

I want to quit.
Thank you. I get paid for the breaks I don't take, but if I take a break, I'd have to stay longer just to finish everything that has to be done. We're also assigned a lot of extra work on different days like pain charting, diabetic charting, etc in addition to all the redundant Medicare charting we have to do :,( I would love to quit but in afraid I won't have enough experience to get another job.

I want to quit.
So bad. I just don't know if it's the right thing to do when I don't have another job lined up. I have experience of less than a year in total, 4 months at my current workplace and I've loathed it eversince I started orienting on the floor. I never got a say in anything-- the hours, days, units.. I'm put on-call forcefully and required aka forced to pick up shifts due to understaffing. I've never missed a day and got my PTO request for 4 measly days denied. My mental health, physical health, emotional well-being is being compromised, not to mention my relationships with my loved ones. I don't need the money per se, my husband can support me while I look for a job, I'm just scared that it will stall me getting the experience I need if I quit... I'm just treating this as a clinical rotation just for the sole purpose of gaining experience. The money is ok, but sometimes it's not worth being this miserable everyday. I know I should be thankful that I have a job, I am.. But I think I've had enough. I'm exhausted, these 14-15 hour nights with no breaks can do a number on you. I think safety is being compromised everyday and I'm really scared to lose my license over something that's "negligent". Any thoughts on this? I consider turning in my two weeks everyday. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
