  1. Good points, thank you for the information!
  2. Shiner - do they actually require all leather shoes like the handbook says? It seems like I had heard someone say they just wore solid white tennis shoes? I don't care either way, but it would be nice to know what to look for! Thanks again for all your help - you've been great! :)
  3. Not harsh at all, Shiner. It's a good reminder to us all that this is a public forum and we should be careful how we discuss things. :) I don't know about anyone else in here, but I'm starting to get pretty nervous and excited. I'm sure the time between now and our orientation will go by in a snap, but I am so anxious to get started just so I can stop worrying about what it will be like!
  4. Okay well I found the new facebook page and liked it, as well as commented on it, so whoever wants to add me as a facebook friend now, I'm the Erin M. who posted on the page! :)
  5. Ashley (kevsgirl) - I never found out anything official, but I went ahead and bought the 7th edition on Amazon for super cheap - I know there is an 8th edition coming out sometime, but two things: 1) I figured we might be able to use to most recent edition prior to the new one, even if they ask us to get the 8th edition, and 2) even if they absolutely want us to have the new edition, or if they scrap this book altogether, I figured it couldn't hurt to go ahead and get the book and start reading and outlining it - it's recent enough information to definitely be helpful, and anything that gives us a heads up prior to starting can't hurt. Plus it was cheap, so even if I can't use it for class, I figured it was worth it anyway. In any case, check around - you might be able to pick up a cheap copy! Check Amazon or Half-Price Books! :)
  6. Well, even though I knew I was accepted a couple of weeks ago when I called to check, I FINALLY got my letter today! I had to go pick it up at TCU because the first one got lost in the mail apparently! Anyways, I made my deposits today and I am good to go! I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty excited about all of this. :)
  7. taraewell - I looked on facebook but couldn't find your page. Did you list it as private/invitation only or am I just maybe doing something wrong?
  8. Thank you, Sophie2012 for the advice! taraewell - let us know when you hear something back, I'm anxious to get the book and get cracking! :)
  9. Congrats, RedTx! We are glad to have some guys joining our class! :)
  10. Thanks for the info about the letters - hopefully they will come soon. :) Also, I meant financial aid. I know I can get a loan, and I've already applied for some scholarships, but I was talking about government aid that you apply for via FAFSA, etc. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I tend to ramble sometimes. :)
  11. Has anyone else gotten their actual nursing acceptance letter in the mail yet? I saw that some people received theirs late last week and I was hoping mine would come in the mail today but it didn't. I mean, I already know I got in because I spoke to *******, but I'm still anxious to get the letter so I can take the next step and make my deposits and all that... Also, does anyone know if we are eligible for any financial aid as second degree students? I've never gotten any help via the FAFSA in all my prereqs (since I graduated with my first degree anyway) because of it, even though I should qualify financially for aid, so I was wondering if anyone else had any additional input? I assume at this point the best we can do is apply for as many scholarships and grants as possible and then take loans for the rest, but I just wondered what everyone else's thoughts were about this. Thanks.
  12. kevsgirl1 - Mine still says that too. I don't know how up to date the my.tcu pages are sometimes, because mine took forever to say "Congratulations on your admission" on my homepage after they sent me my general TCU acceptance letter in Dec. I wouldn't worry about it. The last I heard, Frances was still waiting to send out the letters for nursing admission because they're updating the system so we can pay our deposits online. Otherwise, she said the letters are ready to go out. Let us know if you hear anything!
  13. Thank you for the information, Shiner50! It makes it a lot less mysterious and scary to just KNOW what it's going to be like at first! Also thanks for the head's up about meeting with the graduating ABT group at the beginning - I will try not to let it freak me out! :) You've been so helpful and I know we all appreciate you being willing to talk with us and help us out!
  14. taraewell - Where did you see this on myTCU about your letter being sent? Mine has not said anything different since it came up with "Congratulations on your admission! We look forward to welcoming you into the horned frog family!" on my homepage (in reference to getting into TCU in general back in December). mlozao - I am definitely stressed about the financial portion, but I'm coming to terms with the idea that I'm probably going to just be in debt for a loooonnng time after I graduate...
  15. Ok thanks, jpw4200! That's what I thought!
  16. That was to Shiner, by the way!
  17. Thanks, good to know!
  18. Congratulations, everyone! This is all so exciting! In the handbook (yes, I read the dang handbook already - that's how excited I am! P.S. you can find it on the website if you're interested!) it just says that we have to take a CPR certification course for health care professionals. jpw4200 - That is a tough decision! From everything I've heard, and from all the current/past students I've talked to, everyone seems to think the TCU program is great and well worth the money. I've heard about small class sizes, positive clinical experiences, more than competent instruction, access to helpful resources, etc. The ONLY negative thing I have ever heard anyone say is that occasionally there can be some lapse in organization in the administrative aspect of things...but, from my experience that's true of every school I've ever attended...so I'm not worried. Also, it just teaches you to take responsibility for your own self and make sure you're covered at every corner. Other than that, everyone I've talked to has nothing but great things to say! Good luck in deciding, that's a hard choice! As for me, TCU was my first choice simply because of the fact that it's a faster program (I'm ready to get out and start working!), and also because I went to a private school for my first degree and so I would've had to take a lot more prereqs in order to apply to UTA or any other non-private school. I also looked into TWU, but didn't want to move or commute to Denton. Also I had a somewhat negative experience when I went to meet with an advisor out there that really turned me off of their program. Anyways, hope any of this helps! Wow May 4th for our orientation! That will be here before we know it! Any other info anyone has that's not readily available on the website, etc., please share it here so we can all be as informed as possible! Thanks to everyone who's already posted helpful info for the rest of us! Does anyone know if we have to pay a separate deposit to TCU (aside from the one to hold our nursing seat?). I'm pretty sure we do, but I'm not sure. Anyways, I'll stop rambling I'm just super psyched. :)
  19. I think a celebration mixer would definitely be a good plan! Let's give it a couple more weeks and see who else turns up on here and we can start planning to meet each other! :) In the mean time, getting to know each other...Jene', your life sounds like it has been very exciting! The Army, scuba diving, living in California...Wow! Also, I wouldn't worry about your commute - chances are we're all going to be driving all over the place for clinical sites anyway! As for me, I grew up here in Fort Worth and then moved off to Tennessee for my first degree (psychology) at a small college not all that different from TCU. I finally convinced my husband to move back to TX with me this past June, so by the time we start our nursing program, I will have been back in the state nearly a year. I miss the beauty of East Tennessee for sure, but I am also glad to be back "home." No kids yet, just two spoiled dogs who cause more excitement than they rightfully should. My husband is a chef, which is fabulous because I am no cook. As for my personal interests, I like to do yoga and nia in my spare time at a local yoga studio here. I also work part time right now at my mother's small business in Saginaw. Otherwise I am enjoying some peace and freedom while I can, because I know it's not going to last much longer! Jene', and any others in the forum who haven't spoken up lately, what are your degrees/work experience in? I am always concerned that I will be one of few that has no professional or academic background in the medical field. This is all new to me! -Erin
  20. JAMSALEStoRN - Thanks! I live in the Hulen area, about 15 minutes from TCU, so I am pretty pleased about all of this, haha. I know what you mean, I'm so excited and want to go out and buy everything, but it's best to hold off until we know exactly what they want us to get. I already have a stethoscope that my father-in-law got me for Christmas (he's a doctor and he was excited haha), but I don't know if they want you to have a specific one or color, so I may have to put mine away until I graduate, who knows. Also, do we still have to have titers drawn if we have all of our immunization records? 77frankienheit - Congratulations! Can't wait to meet you! What made you decide to come to TX for school? Also, I'm pretty sure I know what the "changes in the system" are that are delaying the letters being sent out - when I called yesterday and spoke to *******, she wanted to confirm my address and when she checked it she realized that there was some error in their spreadsheet and the addresses were matched up incorrectly I guess. I'm not sure exactly what the issue was, but I wonder if that's what she was referring to. She told me she was really glad I called and she caught it! Anyways, not sure if that's the "changes," but may be... As far as affordable places to live, I live about 15 minutes from the TCU campus in the Hulen/Cityview area and there are a lot of apartments over here with a wide range of prices. I would get on apartmentfinder.com and look around and see what you could find. Southwest Ft. Worth is a big area and there's a ton of places to live! Good luck, and if you find a place and want to know if it's in a good area, please let me know and I can maybe help you out! -Erin (I feel like it's about time you knew my actual name! :))
  21. Congratulations (!!!!!!) and serious thanks for the head's up about calling! I called and spoke to ******* earlier this afternoon and I got in too! Can't wait to get started and meet everyone else in the program! :)
  22. I don't know if any of you follow the other thread about TCU's ABSN program, but a student currently enrolled in the program posted today to let those of us waiting to hear if we've been accepted that the committee decided on the 2012 class this week, so we should hopefully be hearing something pretty soon. However, I'm trying not to get my hopes up, since just because they've decided who they're accepting doesn't mean they're going to send out letters right away. If anyone gets their letter in the mail, please post and let us know so we can be on the look out (like I'm not already...haha) for ours! Good luck to everyone!
  23. Thank you for letting us know! I have already been stalking the mailman, even though I knew last year's class didn't get their letters until the end of February...Haha. Now I'll be stalking him even more! So nervous! Hope you're doing well and making it through school okay. :)
  24. I feel ya, JAMSALEStoRN. January is going by painfully slow, I'm getting seriously nervous and impatient. Haha. I haven't heard anything differently than you, so I guess we're just counting down until the end of February. Yay...
  25. I looked at my my.tcu.edu today too, and it still said they're reviewing my application too, so I wouldn't go by that. I think they just haven't updated the system. I'm sure you'll get your letter any day now! As far as my background, I also have a bachelors in psychology, and right now I'm in school finishing up the last two of my prereqs. Nothing crazy. Your grades and stats are pretty comparable to mine - I think we both have a really good shot of getting in. :) Good luck!
