How old were you when you became an RN?
Thank you!! Each and every one of you for your encouraging and supportive words!! Was just having a down day. I will keep it up. My 12 y/o Ariana helps me study and makes sure I have classical music playing to help me focus, haha. She's the best. Thank you all, have a great weekend. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses

How old were you when you became an RN?
Hello all, I have question. How old were you when you became a nurse, how long did it take you to complete the program? I'm 31, will be 32 in October. I seriously feel too old to continue with school. Single mother of two, 12 y/o & 9 y/o. Ugh, nursing is all I ever wanted but I don't know anymore. It's so tough to get into a program here in Chicago. I get so down about it. I'm wrapping up my prerequisites. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses

Does your hospital or facility badge include your credentials?
Every facility must be different, I currently work as a CMA, and my badge says it. Every position in the hospital has their title respectively, in bold, under their name and an other badge that hangs lower than the ID, with their title, MD, RN, CC, CMA, PCT, RN ANP, etc... Maybe you can request one? Check with HR.

Where do you get your books?!
A great source is Half.com i believe it is a sister store to Amazon but way cheaper!

What's the point!
Thank you!!! Ugh so you truly understand my frustration, thank you. My sister told me about the lpn programs but I felt that would slow me down, that's silly, right?! I thought that way because the lpn programs, in Chicago anyway, are two years, which is the same as the ADN program, so why go that route, thats what I thought anyway. But I will look into it, thanks again!

What's the point!

What's the point!
Thank you, I know age is just a number, but if i'm being honest my big "30th" birthday hit me hard, and I think thats where I sorta started to fall apart. Thank you for your reply.

What's the point!

What's the point!
I've reached a point where I don't know if I should continue studying to become to nurse. Don't get me wrong, I still LOVe the idea of being a nurse and It's what I have always wanted to do and be but I've been going to school on and off for ten years trying to finish my pre-reqs. Life keeps happening and for one reason or another I cannot register a semester or year and its come to the point were I seriously just feel i'm getting to old and to damn tired of school and I don't know if I should continue. I know I'm not old (30) but working full time as a medical assistant in urology, full time single mommy to two girls in grade school, makes me not want to keep going. Ugh!!!!!!!!! Sorry ya'll I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer (I think that's how the saying goes, sorry if I offended anyone named Debbie) but I just needed to vent and maybe some guidance!

@dmfisher86: I'm sorry, forgive my ignorance but what is "new grad residency"? Is that for new RN's? Thanks for any input?
-
Grads from Chamberlain
I know for sure Rush University Medical hires nurses from Chamberlain. I know a few RN's that work there and went to school at Chamberlain. Good Luck

Any RN or students around the Chi --Help plz
hello all, my name is eloisa and i work full time as an ma, and attend school full time finishing up my pre-reqs at the ccc's, (so much cheaper considering, i'm a single mom of two). i wanted to know if there were any rn's from the chicago area or near by subs on here, or student nurses, pre-nursing majors etc... i would like to know what school you went to here in the city? what was it like for you, what did you think od it?? basically i want to pick your brains about the program you went to or are attending. trust me i know it's called "google" and i have researched various schools and have spoken to admissions advisers but frankly most of them tell you what you want to hear. nothing like getting it straight from a students prospective. i'm so conflicted as to which i should go to, i was so ready to go to chamberlain, but after reading the forums/post on it, uh..i'm on the fence. also looking at uic, st. xavier, loyola, chgo state, robert morris...oh so many! would also appreciate to get an ma going through the same things input if possible?? any and all replies would be most appreciated! lots of love & respect :heartbeat enjoy whats left of the weekend - i'm batteling a fever and have class in the am. fun! lol.

Nurses' personal medical records
Not a stupid question at all. The hospital am at, we no longer have paper charts, we have the EMR system Epic, and you can put a lock on your chart, where if some one needs to access it, they need to type in a code and "break the glass" (each time someone looks at your chart it gets reported) if they are opening it be busy bodies and no other reason the are fired on the spot. Even though you work their it does not give anyone a right to "browse" through your chart.

Medical Assistants the new RNs???
NO, thats completely understandable, and i really didn't mean to offend anyone, I apologize truly. That's how I felt when I saw others talking bad about MA's wheatheryour for us or not. Yikes, i did come out like that huh!? I do respect my nurses, they are my superiors and I do as i'm told, but like I said, my floor, is weird.
