  1. Thank you all for your comments. I know now that it was a stupid thing that I did and I have since then never mentioned another thing about work, positive or negative!!! If I get an interview if they ask me a questions pertaining to it, or outwright ask me about it I will explain myself and state just how much I have matured as a nurse.
  2. Children's Hospital Boston Massachusetts General Hospital Tuft's Medical Center- Floating Hospital for Children ALLL have pedi BMT units, wish i could get a job on one...
  3. I work in a PICU in a smaller hospital in new england. The majority of our admissions are not vented, but more in the winter. BUT I do sorely miss the interaction with pediatric patients who act more like children...who are not neurologically compromised or sedated, so I am currently searching for a pediatric unit position...
  4. This was my life just two years ago. I loved pediatrics and it was always my passion but I was a new grad and took an adult med/surg position. I could only stomach it for 9 months, I then switched to per diem and landed a summer camp nursing job for 5 weeks!!! *they will hire new grads! After that I continued to work per diem on the adult med surg floor, but became PALS and PEARS certified (i paid for it myself). I then landed a job in a pediatrician's office (not my first choice but pedi)! After a year of doing that full time and working per diem on the adult inpatient unit I landed a job in a PICU!!!!! I now am a Certified Pediatric Nurse and am PALS certified!!! Don't stop trying!!! Also of note, I live in massachusetts!!! I know the struggle is real in new england for new grad nursing jobs! Too much competition!
  5. I know this was 2 years ago, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I followed my heart. After 9 months of working full time on the adult med/surg unit I gave my notice and began working per diem and I did work at the pediatric camp for 5 weeks that summer! Then, that fall i landed a full time job in a pediatrician's office and continued to work per diem in adult med/surg to keep up my skills. A year after working in the pediatrician's office I landed an awesome job in a PICU and was a part of a nurse residency program where I have learned a ton! Always listen to your heart and follow your gut! I had no idea if I would work out when I went per diem but everything happens for a reason! I have now been a PICU nurse for over a year and am not a Certified Pediatric Nurse!!! :)
  6. I worked at a hospital for three years and in that time I showed up to work on time and did my job. I was hired as a new grad and worked in Adult Med/Surg. I floated to another unit for a friend and had one of the worst shifts of my life. After the shift, I went home and wrote on my friend's facebook wall something like "I am never working for you! I had the worst shift ever on 3e! Manual disempaction, psych patients..." I wrote about my night, but did not meniton any room numbers or any patient names. About 3 weeks later I recieved an e-mail from the nurse manager of the unit I floated to. Apparently someone had seen what I had written and printed it out and showed her nurse manager. Then, that nurse manager brought it to HR. I was given THREE written warnings that I signed, I was told that I broke their social media policy. I was so upset and quit the job shortly after to go into pediatrics. Several times I have thought how unfair it was that I was given 3, not 1 written warning! I had never before had an disciplinary actions against me at this hospital. Now a year later I have applied for a job in pediatrics at the same hospital (but a different campus). I am concerned that they will not hire me over this silly mistake I made when I was a new nurse. Does anyone know if a nurse's file stays at that hospital forever? How many years until their file is deleted or is it never? And should I bring it up at my interview to explain or let them bring it up? I really want this job, as it is three miles from my house. Any advice!?
  7. And I have worked there, I worked on 6 west and loved every second of it. Don't let one floor fool you either.
  8. Were you working on the CICU at Children's Hospital Boston??
  9. I've been working in adult med/surg for 7 months, but very much miss pediatric nursing (i worked as an aid throughout school and had my senior practicum at a Children's Hospital. I recently got offered a position at an overnight girls camp as a RN for 4 weeks. I really want to accept the job, but I need to discuss this with my current nurse manager. I currently work 32 hours a week and will need to take 4 weeks off. I don't want to use my earned time because 1. I don't have much if any and 2. I'm not going on vacation, i'm going to work. I need advice on how to ask her for this LOA. My unit is always understaffed and I feel bad leaving but this is something I really want to do. I want to work in pediatrics, not adults. Should I just quit? Or switch to per diem? What should I do if she freaks?? Thanks
  10. I worked as a tech for over a year at a pediatric hospital and had my preceptorship and they still didn't hire me. there was only one new grad position and my friend who had worked there a year longer than me got the position. now i'm on medsurg and i'm hoping after a year I can get back to the children's hospital.
  11. Did you ever end up getting a pedi floor? I just noticed this post was made in 2009 so i'd be curious to see what happened.
  12. I COMPLETELY understand what you are going to. I worked at a nurse's aid on a pedi floor all through college and even had my practicum on the floor. When I graduated last may I interviewed for a new grad position on their floor but there were 2 other aids who also had graduated and had been working there longer so I didn't get the job. I did however land a job on an adult med-surg floor. I really didn't want to take it but i didn't want to work as an Aid with an RN, BSN so i I took it. I've been at the job about 6 months and I very much miss the Children's Hospital I was at everyday. I was number 1 in the country, so it was hard going from that to a hospital that is so behind in technology and not well staffed. I am applying all the time to pedi jobs all around, but haven't gotten any calls back. I am hoping it is because I only have 6 months experience. I hope that in 6 more months those gates will open but in the mean time I feel really restless and miss pedi so much and know it is what I am meant to do. Therefore, I am in the process of getting PEARS and PALS certified, to help me land a pedi job back at the children's hopsital once I've had a year experience. I also plan on staying in touch with my old nurse manager through e-mails, nurses i used to work with, as well as the Children's Hospital HR. Hope this helps, I definatly know how you feel! You are not alone! We will get there someday soon and once I land that pedi job at Children's Hospital Boston I'm never going to leave!!!!
