  1. Graduated May 10, 2014!!! Received my ATT and I am scheduled to test in June! What a terrific journey!
  2. I am currently a nursing student at the Tomball campus. I am at the end of the second semester. I remember like it was yesterday, receiving my acceptance letter and going through the process of finger printing, background check, ss verification. Get it all complete as soon as you can. Once you go to orientation you will have reading assignments. Do the reading to stay ahead. Good luck to everyone. The Tomball program is awesome and the instructors are the best! First and Second semester clinicals were awesome. I cannot wait until we get started again in August!
  3. just thought I would mention that during our skills I class the instructor informed us that all of the alternates for Tomball had been called to join the program and we had a few seats left open. I have looked at the numbers and Lone Star takes about 350 students system wide where as Houston Community College only takes about 208 and that is after they expanded their program
  4. for the students attending the Tomball program, we received an email regarding our first day of class along with a list of suggested chapters to read before starting classes on Monday.....thought this weekend would be my last free weekend, but it looks like last weekend was, I have some reading to do to be prepared for next week...yikes, I already invited folks from out of town to come stay at my place this weekend, hope they enjoy watching me read
  5. Ten days of freedom left (aka summer break) then it is going to be nose to the grindstone! Oh I ask that the power to study until my eyes fall out and my brain fills with knowledge be granted unto me! There that is my prayer. I am a believer in prayer, i have seen it work for me many, many, many times and i have faith that it will continue to work for me. Anyone else ready to dedicate the next two years to reading and studying our nursing books? I personally cannot stay away from the books i already bought. Not sure what i need to be reading for class, but i have been flipping pages and scanning paragraph after paragraph. It is just for leisure at this point in time hope i can enjoy it this much when the reading becomes an assignment and then a quiz.
  6. At Tomball we had rnsg 1105, I think your class is rnsg 1172. I dont know what the difference is but pay attention to the skills. Relax and be confident, and use common sense.
  7. tlcarter I finished the two weeks basic skills class last thursday. This is the first summer break I have had in the over the last 19 years (since high school) and I am not sure how to act. Sleep in late, wake up and have nothing to do!?! Next week I have to take a road trip so I do not lose my mind. I am thinking Denver
  8. For the skills class I was in, I found it difficult to complete the readings and the homework plus the quizzes and be in bed by 1am. I barely had time to sleep at night.
  9. Hope everyone is doing well in their basic skills lab! I could have not done any better.
  10. @ tlcarter Here is a link to the Board of Nurse Examiners Nursing Practice Act Nursing Practice Act
  11. Tlcarter, If it is the same as the one we have for Tomball, you get it from the Tx BON website. It is a .pdf file and it is way too many pages to print. I tried several times to duplex it and I kept and getting printing errors. I have a commercial hp printer and it is supposed to be capable of printing 30,000+ pages a month.
  12. Basic skills class is going great!!! Hope everyone does well or has done well in this quick class. You cover a ton of information, most of it is common sense so that makes it easier to understand
  13. Angienoir, At Tomball if you are in the lab, you must be in the required navy blue uniform with your patch, and white leather shoes. There were people sent away and told to come back with their uniforms on! And do not be late!!! Today was the second day and the reading is quite a load, but doable I think. There is daily homework and a quiz. We had a skills check of today and another one on Thursday. It is going by super fast!!! Good luck with your class next week!
  14. Yes, we have to wear our uniform if we are scheduled for lab. It is their way of making sure we have the proper attire. I just picked my uniforms up from the cleaners today and I received my shoes from FedEx just today. I am ready for our class that begins on Monday! It isn't 1172 it is 1105. I am not sure what the difference is but we are not scheduled to take 1172, it is not offered at Tomball.... Is everyone enrolling full time at 12 credit hours or only their nursing courses?
  15. Stacairn, At Tomball, if we have lab, we have to be in uniform, shoes, patches, the whole nine yards. You could email your director and ask about if that is a requirement. Good luck everyone!
  16. Stephalump, How was you class? I have heard that at Tomball they too do the bathing suit thing. It could have changed from last year, guess I will find out next week.
  17. I wonder how many students are going to miss class the day we have this assignment. I am alright with being in a bathing suit, but to have someone else so close to me. I am already feeling a bit uncomfortable.
  18. I am feeling excited, class is going to start July 23!!!! I am ready or at least I think I am..........
  19. So glad I bought a LaserJet. One toner cartridge will print about 1500 pages =P
  20. I am still waiting to hear about our assignment is from Tomball. We did not receive any information on what we should read at orientation. I am kind of glad because the classes I am taking now do not allow me time for reading anything extra, except for maybe a post or two from you all.
  21. Four weeks until classes begin at Tomball, North Harris, and Montgomery for those who have not been exempted from the basic class. Is anyone as excited as i am?
  22. Yes it was for psych tech. Did you attach a resume? I did because before our office closed the company hired another company to prep everyone new resumes. They are still following up with me even though it has been two years. They have updated my resume twice related to educational achievements.
  23. The job I applied for is at Harris County Psych Center. They require that you have a min. of 60 sem. Credit hours with a focus in psyc, sociology, or health science. I have a friend who graduated with a bachelor degree in psychology from Baylor and is now working on her master at HBU. She has worked at UTHSC Harris County Psych Center for a few years now and loves it. I am excited there was a position open because I want to work in mental health.
  24. I thought we couldn't apply until we graduated in May 2014 and became an RN. You thinking about applying in Jan. 2013? Or is that a typo?
  25. @stephalump. Get accepted where in jan. 2013? I applied for a part-time position at UTHSC. I am hoping to land a part-time job sometime soon. I have been out of work for over two years and my 401k from my previous employer is disappearing. I can make it the next two years, but I would feel better if I could land a job so I can help my son with his college expenses.
