Hey! Just saw your post. heres my situation, I definitely don't have all prerequisites done yet. I still need to complete A&P I/II and a few more classes. I had a not so awesome GPA from my previous school at Humboldt State University 2.76 with 26 units, 2.3 GPA from a CC with 10 Units ( all from 2004) and then kicked it into high gear, last semester and got a 3.71 GPA at university of Montana, this is where i completed the Micro, Chem, yadda yadda yadda. Schools in California have some pretty high standards for GPA, and I somewhat doubt that even if i take those required courses, that Ill get in. I do have 5 + years experience in Healthcare as an EMT/ Nursing assistant in SICU, am nearly fluent in Spanish, and have letters of rec. Realistically, providing that i do well on the entrance exam/ the remainder of my prerequisites , is there a chance that id get in?

I am applying to a few schools with a nursing program (LSU, University of Kentucky, SFSU) to FIRST complete my prerequisites. I really didnt apply myself when i fist went to school in 2004 at all I went to Humboldt State University, and got a 2.76 GPA For 26 units, then didnt apply myself again at a local community college, took 10 units and got a GPA of 2.3. I spent 5 years working as an EMT/ Nursing assistant in SICU/ figuring out that I was meant to be a nurse, and with more motivation obtained a 3.81 GPA at the University of Montana for 20 units. I have 3 classes to complete (A&P I/II, biochem) to be eligible for admission to a BSN program in the California State University system. The problem is my GPA....... to be blunt, it sucks. Id hate to think that my previous academic BS'ing as a Freshman at HSU will kill my chances of getting into Nursing School to get my BSN...... Ive looked at at the ASN programs around me and most of them have a massive waiting list... not looking to wait any longer. at this point id rather take on massive student debt if it means that id be able to go to a nursing program in the fall of 2012. if anyone has any suggestions, i would greatly appreciate them. thank you for your time. ~nibie

Do they base their admission decision alley on science GPA, the reason why I ask is When I was younger I went to school at HSU had too much fun and completed 1 year with a 2.76 and now last semester at the university of Montana I was taking the traditional nursing core curriculum and got. A 3.81. If they just looked at pre req GPA I would be beyond thrilled. Also any idea how many students they admit every year?

I would also love to know about this, have you already been admitted? I've applied for general admission to the university as a pre nursing student, however I am worried about the min GPA, and all that. I would be relocating for the program from California, so i kinda want to make sure I have a chance.

I genuinely appreciate the reply, ive looked into school out there and it seems like an EXTREMELY viable option. how competitive is it to get in? Whats the local economy around there like (for jobs during the school year)?

hello everyone, I attended school at the university of montana, humboldt state university, and a local community college in san diego, have worked as an EMT for 3 years, a nursing assistant in SICU for 2 years, and i am still at a loss for schools to apply to. here is my situation and schools that i have applied to. I have completed the ubiquitous requirements of Micro, intro Psych, Stats, Nutrition, sociology, and some more. The courses that I do still need to complete are A&P I & II, Psych of lifespan, micro LAB, and bio chem. I had to withdraw from the University of Montana, due to not being able to get a job in a hospital or elsewhere (the local economy in Missoula somewhat sucks). Additionally, the out of state tuition is just outside my budget. I found that with my increased maturity now that im older, was more conducive to better grades. (18 y/o at HSU- 2.75 gpa, 18 y/o CCSD-2.1:down:, and 25 y/o UMT-3.81, deanslist:D) My cumulative GPA resides somewhere around a 2.9. I am beyond confident in being able to do well in all the rest of the pre requisites for nursing. unfortunately with the community college in San Diego, the availability of those pre- requisites, just isnt there. most have 30 enrolled and another 30 already on a waitlist. I was able to get into psych of lifespan, i guess i will start counting my blessings now. My question for everyone is with the schools I have applied to for lower division course availability, and hopefully rapid admission to the BSN program. I have applied to San Francisco State University, University of Kentucky, University of Arkansas, and Louisiana State University. All schools are within my tuition budget, I am just concerned with the impaction of those core classes, and ultimately the Nursing classes. I genuinely appreciate any help or suggestions I am able to get, and I apologize for the LOOOOOOOOONNNNGGGG post. ~NIBIE
