Sopranokris- I am wanting the expereience too. Money would be nice... but that is not the reality! I checked some programs around me and CNA is the faster option (6 weeks). I would like to do phlebotomy certification but that takes 7 months. Pharmacy tech takes 3 or 4. The only program is that due to budget cuts, most programs that offer CNA courses are being cut. I am 3 classes away from having all of my pre-reqs done for ASN and 5 classes away from having all my pre-reqs done for ABSN.

I think I've decided to go the ASN route
ryanalice- this is so me!! however... i am on the west coast... but contemplating the SAME decision! how the semester schedules are like over here- i won't be able to start a community college program until fall 2013... which makes me wonder if an absn is a better choice since i already have a bachelor's and most state schools in california have closed their doors on absn programs for fall 2012 and all spring 2013 admissions in any subject is closed. so i am left with two options: fall 2013 for absn or fall 2013 for community colleges. fall 2013 for community colleges would be easier to fulfill the pre-reqs... but it makes me worry. what if even the community colleges don't want me? all these absn courses and schedules sound so insane. i get nervous just thinking about how much i will have to apply myself and am not sure i can handle all that stress. and i don't have a lot of money and i don't want to add to my debt in insane amounts. and i most likely will have to move out of state to go to an absn school. i have a good deal with my rent situation here in california being that rent normally is outrageous for a small room! and there are two great community college schools within a 10 mile radius that are EXCELLENT. one is based on a point system and one on a lottery. but then i hear on the news that there are hospitals that are shutting their doors on asn rns because there is a move towards hiring only rn's who have bsns and then i am right back into the boat of should i consider absn? thanks for sharing about umass boston! i lived in boston this past summer with a friend who does live there (i am in her wedding this summer) and absolutely fell in love with everything boston!! i would very much like to move there... someday... maybe moving somewhere for an absn isn't such a good idea. oh the decisions!

I am trying to work my way up the "nursing" ladder so to speak. I am tired of working food jobs to save enough money... I never will! I want to have a job that will at least SHOW that I am trying to go after what I want. What do y'all think? What is the better way to go... I am trying to get into an accelerated bsn program or a community college program for Fall 2013.

Retaking Anatomy
I know this is really expensive and I know I have heard some people say that you probably shouldn't take a lab class online but my sister has talked about this: Pre-Nursing Health Science Certificate - Azusa Pacific Online University Hope it helps. Or maybe lead to another search that brings something better!

Anyone else worried about CSU Budget Cuts for Spring 2013?
No, my GPA is not flawless... my UG is a 3.4 and so far my pre-reqs are a 4.0 but I am not holding my breath. I usually am a B average student anyways (nothing wrong with it but definitely not the easiest!) I am basing my decisions about Mt. St. Mary's and National based on this: Board of Registered Nursing - NCLEX Pass Rates I did not know UNLV had an Acc BSN. Are you considering it? And thanks for the advise about talking to the financial departments... I didn't think about that! Are you worried about financial means?

Anyone else worried about CSU Budget Cuts for Spring 2013?
Hello and help! I was wondering how many of you are in the same boat or a similar boat as I am: I currently have my BA in a major that is not nursing, 3 years out, tried the whole trying-to-get-a-teaching credential thing which was dumb because there are soooo many in California that can't find a teaching job... but realized through an odd way of life events that nursing is what I love and must do. HOWEVER... I cannot decide what I should get: my ADN and then take an RN to BSN bridge program or go for my accelerated BSN? Money will be a factor no matter what, loans will be an issue because I already have a BA... the things I am worried about and have been wracking my brain (and I am sure all within ear shot of me) are what to do about the Spring 2013 budget cuts that will affect the whole timeline I have been trying to put together and that will surely affect admission rates for Fall 2013. If California is one of the states that has been starting to require that all nurses have a BSN- how can I get into a program with all of the budget cuts? Am I better off moving to another state and paying out-of-state tution? I bet I will finish everything faster. Or am I better off going the community college route and paying less and maybe not being able to land a job in California? With where I am in my pre-reqs, I should be able to finish everything this Fall (2012), which allows me to apply for Fall 2013 programs. I know that there are loop-holes for every situation and person but I have to remember that those are the expections... not the rule. I want to play it safe but I am terrified of not being able to make a sound decision due to the mess what this whole economic recession has brought. I, fortunately, do not have to worry about moving a family where ever I decide to go or whatever I decide to do. I am up for anything and everything. Someone, please advise! Gah... I need a nice, relaxing bubble bath!

Reasons for Becoming a Nurse
MarathonRunner1- I too, am writing this a bit late... but all of the reasons you listed are EXACTLY why I am looking to go into nursing and what I just can't seem to get my family to understand. I got my BA in History and English because I felt like I was "suppose to" but it doesn't define me and I have no where to go from it. I thought I was suppose to teach because that is what you do with those degrees, so I started my teaching credential (and yes, I live in California too). I hated it. Hated, hated it... so I dropped my program. I "fell" into being a Special Education Healthcare Specialist (working with Special Education students with health issues) and I love it. I am constantly tired, stressed and I get puked on and my hair pulled out by angry kids... but I am excited to go to my job every day! It doesn't pay a lot... and I am not looking into Special Education teaching. I am looking into nursing... I assist students with their bathroom routines, help the school nurse administer medicines, and cut up their food into bite-size pieces. Is this nursing? I have been to told to look into OT or SLP... but at the end of the day... the door to nursing looks like it is more open. All this to say- have you finished your program? Do you enjoy what you are doing? Do you have any thing you can advise me on? I sure hope so!
