New LPN with BIG concern over TN scope of practice re: IV Push
I am a LPN in Indiana and not only do I give IV push meds, but hang blood, cardic drips you name it we do it. The LPN's at my hospital are trained to do all of these things. I thing the main problem here is that you are not trained to do this. There is a lot you must know before you begin pushing meds into a port, SL, port-a- cath, Picc or Groshong. Are you aware of how fast of slow some meds must be pushed? if not then don't do it.

books or study guides
I am a LPN with 4 years of Med-Surg under my belt. I am thinking of enroling in Excelsiors RN program. Here is my problem I am reading all over the place people selling study guides for the classess I need. One person on e-bay has guides that come with a money back clause should you fail a exam. I need to know from people that have been successful with this program, how did you do it. Did you learn the material by buying the books and looking up the material of buying the guides. Please let me know. this is to much time and money to leave up to chance. I want to be successful yet obtain the knowledge that I will need also.

Letting LPN's give report at end of shift instead of the RN "covering" ?
I am a LPN in Indiana a MED-Surg float at our local hospital. I give report on all my pts. As a float I float to and work in all areas of my hospital even crital area and the ER, if you have your ACLS. The only thing that the RN's in my hospital do that I don't is the admission assessment.

Anyone a CNA/nursing assistant b4 an LPN?
I worked as a CNA for3 years before becoming a nurse. This gave me a great understanding of all the work a CNA does. I don't have to call someone to take my pt to the bathroom of transfer them, I do it myself and my aides remember this and work harder for me than other nurses. All CNA's will tell you that you can tell a nurse that never worked as a aide a mile away. Becoming a aide first will make you a stronger nurse in the end.
