Eating our young and more...
This is a Message sent to me in regard to the "crap" people have replied to my posting...great example of professionalism you guys are putting out here. Such compassion and caring attitudes put out by many of you. After my first thread I am cancelling my membership...just thought I 'd let some of you know how some feel about the chaos that this great site has become. Again...thank you for your input... "Allnurses is a wonderful forum. But it is best to stick with questions regarding furthering your education, nclex, and maybe some other subjuects I cant think of right now. Allnurses is too controversial now. Especially wen explaining a unfortunate situation u have gone thru in ur nursing career. PEOOLE WILL JUMP DOWN UR THROAT. Very few may be sympathetic to ur blight but hardly any. Its best jus to read post.."like" them then kiss them and move on. Constantly clarifying what your post is about is totally USELESS. This is the one thing I do not like about this site. To many people trying to make controversy and tio many overly sensitive people. Thank greatness for the moderators" Thank you to the person who sent me this supportive message the rest of guys have fun ripping apart your fellow nurses...you guys just gave me the best story for what I was looking for!

Eating our young and more...
This is not research. I was just looking for some ideas to research. Also this is not every place I have worked. 3 bad employers, in over 15 years, out of 8 in 3 different geographical areas. At my last job I was given $12,000 a year in raises while I was there, over a 3 year period and offered another $10,000 to stay when I chose to drop to per diem so I could focus more on finishing my degree. I am not a bad nurse and I am not a martyr. One position when I saw things were so bad, I started documenting everything with my supervisor via email, so there would be a record that I had made people aware of the problems before the reportable problem came up. These emails confirmed my side of the story. When I had the problem with the med error, supposedly a post-op patient claimed that I gave a pain medication via a different route than what was ordered. Perhaps he confused the pain medication with his antibiotic. I don't know, but I had repeatedly documented his pain level and that he refused (route, medication) throughout the night. When I did give the medication, I documented (medication) administered by (route). This is normal documentation. Had I not documented appropriately, I may have had an issue, but it was very apparent to the state investigator that I knew the proper route and had given it correctly. It was thrown out. This was like 12 years ago.... Anyway, this is not what this is all about anyway. I was just looking for some unique experiences that I could research incidences of...I cannot believe it has turned into this huge b%#^ch session full of different sides complaining about the other sides opinion. I wasn't asking for anyone's opinion. I just wanted some ideas to research. This big dramatic attack is actually comical. All those who think I am out of line are the ones who seem to be making the biggest attacks! Kinda funny! And what's "many people like this"??? You don't know me and you don't know what I am like. I gave 3 examples of bad situations...that took place over 15 years...in positions that added together don't even cover a year of my nursing experience...and you can put me into a "people like this" category. Unbelievable the amount of judgement being put out in this thread today, especially when I didn't ask for anyone's advice or analysis of my situation. Also since I have posted at least 4 times that this is NOT research, just idea gathering, and I am still being told that this is "not accurate research" only leads me to believe the the people who are so upset about this, are not even reading half the posts. I was getting upset over the attacks, but now I am just chuckling about it. Thank you for your input.

yeah...not a NETY problem...My title is NETY and more...looking for more examples of unfair treatment...thousands of examples...just looking for a new idea, but no one is giving ideas, they are focusing on all the wrong parts and not giving what I originally asked for...stories about bad experiences...oh and some people find venting their bad experiences therapeutic...There are tons of bad stories on all different threads all over the place here. Really if people didn't or don't want to share a story, which what I was asking for...then they should just move on...not the big deal everyone is making... Now, really tired of argueing over all this stuff that was not the meaning of the post. Oh and back-peddling? not sure what that's about??? My initial post said "So I guess what I am saying is has anyone else had issues? Back stabbing, scapegoating, or just down-right unprofessional treatment?"...this is all I was looking for. I gave some examples and asked for some examples.

WoosahRN, She wasn't teaching me, she was taking report from me...bug difference.

Eating our young and more...
OMG...I AM JUST GIVING EXAMPLES OF PROBLEMS...NOT STATING THIS IS MY PROBLEM. I had a tough nurse to report to at my first nursing job...15+ years ago....and she made me a better nurse...was it stressful, yes...am I permanently damaged by this? No. I am not complaining of being a victim of NETY. I am just trying to come up with a topic of unfair treatment...there have got to be thousands of examples. Jeesh...I will never say NETY again...it must bringing up some old wounds for some. Were all you offended nurses accused of it? Otherwise I can't figure what all the hub-bub is about??? Thank you to the few who have offered up stories...I have already found many more stories on other threads. I guess people want to tell their story unless that are asked to tell their story. Kinda funny! But enough with the NETY already! Many of you who are even complaining about my thread have posted responses in other threads about "covering you butt."If there's no blame gaming going on, why does everyone feel they need to cover their butt? That's half of my thought process...that it is a shame that we feel we need to practice nursing on the defensive. Anyone else feel this way?

Abuse Culture in Nursing...How Far Does it Go?
HoneyBeGood...thank you! Although I have 2 decades on you, 2 previous careers, and 15+ years in nursing...and I also don't get it. In a posting I made about nurse on nurse sabotage, the reply's I got were rude, critical, and overly concerned with my reasons for posting rather than what I was looking for from the posting, which was input on the topic, not input on my examples of input. Basically many (not all...so don't get your panties in a bunch guys) of the big posters here seem to just go around ripping apart peoples postings rather than contributing constructively. Just goes to prove my nurse on nurse sabotage question. Anyway thank you and I don't feel that wanting a fulfilled feeling from your job is too much to ask. If we have to grin and bear it through our entire career, there is definitely a problem! Oh, and I am not a little girl who's life outlook has just suddenly crumbled...I have just been around long enough to know that if you are miserable in your job, it is not worth any amount of money...there are more important things in life!

Eating our young and more...
Everyone is really getting stuck on this NETY thing. The title of the post also says "and more." I was looking for other examples of nurses treating nurses badly...not just NETY...I have been a nurse for 15 years and not claiming NETY...Again...I was not looking for anyone to fix or evaluate my previous problems...I was just giving them as examples of nurses being treated unfairly, often by administration and often by other nurses...I was just looking for some experiences that others have had and this has turned into a frenzy over the NETY topic being brought up...NETY is just one example of nurses treating nurses badly...the same can be said for the new nurse who comes in "knowing it all" and giving the experienced nurses attitude or complaining over not being spoon fed their orientation...My gosh...I was just giving some examples but this has turned into a freak out over what must be a very touchy subject for some...I was not trying to equate any of my issues to NETY...again...just giving some different examples of nursing being treated badly or serving as the "scapegoats." You can't tell me everyone out there has never been the scapegoat for a higher up issue or been on the receiving end of someone's vengeance or unprofessional behavior? I know that most states are at will and can fire you for any reason...which makes it more of a slap in the face when someone fabricates a reason the messes with my license. All she had to say was we don't click, you can't fill our needs, or it's just not working out...instead we had to play a game with a med error that was determined to have not happened anyway. It was just stupid. And often there is administration who will throw it at the nurse to cover their own butt. I have a friend who literally had his license threatened by his supervisor. When attempting to discuss problems with care, she actually told him that he should "not worry about that and start worrying about his license." It is just such a shame that as nurses, many have gotten to the point that they must keep their heads down and not speak up, or constantly worry about covering their butt. Really I was just looking for some stories and this has turned into a bashing match. Everyone is so busy being offended that they are not getting the original reason for the posting. Maybe I should use the suggestion of BrandonLPN and do some research on the drama that ensues when you put a bunch of women together in the workplace. I don't know if he was serious or not, but I be the guys can affirm there is much less drama among the guys.

WoosahRN, Oh, and by the way...I am not one of the "younger" staff. I am pushing 50 and I've been a RN for over 15 years. I am almost done with my masters degree. I really was not trying to focus this whole thread on NETY. It was just an example of bad behavior between nurses. What you report is just as bad! Anytime we do not support each other...young and old...we are doing our profession a great disservice. It just seems to me that it is getting worse and we have put ourselfs into an "every man for himself" situation and that is really sad.

Eating our young and more...
I had a nurse in my first job who raked me over the coals every morning. I would be coming off a 12 hour night shift and she would drill me...over stuff that didn't even pertain to report...What does GERD mean? You should have done this and did you do this? How about this? I remember telling my NM that giving report at the end of my shift shouldn't be the most stressful part of the shift! I survived! But I never quite understood the whole "it was rough on us, so we need to make it rough on you" thing. When I worked clinicals with students or orient a new nurse, I just feel it's easier to absorb info if you're not petrified!

ShillaBSN, Thank you, but it is okay. I don't know if some people get offended by the "everything is not always rosy" in nursing attitude, but I know that in someways I am making myself a target because I don't just sit by when something is not right. Oh, and people telling me to keep my head down??? Really? I should ignore others neglect or law breaking? Sorry, can't do that! I'm like that in my personal and professional life and often management does not want someone pointing out to them things that are wrong. The good managers do, but there are a lot of bad managers out there. If I did just sit back while things were being done poorly or if I didn't stand up for myself when I am being taken advantage of, I would not be able to get out of bed in the morning. I just think that we are seeing a lot of nurse on nurse or management on nurse bullying. Not necessarily the NETY thing. I have been a RN for 15 years. I have seen nurses who ignore their own patients while keeping track of every move another nurse makes, trying to catch her doing something wrong. I have seen nurses remove patient flow sheets from clipboards after a nurse completes it, so they think it is lost and they have to redue it...Just so many times the smile at someone and pump them for info and then throw them under the bus 2 minutes later. I was just looking for a new topic to research and was looking to see if anyone had some similar (or different) stories. Wasn't really planning on getting attacked for asking for some to share their experiences... but like you said...it just proves my point that we practice nurse on nurse violence.
