UTA Spring 2012
@AVJK, my adviser told me your hesi score does not matter as long as you pass and that they don't use it for ranking. I wish UTA would inform their advisers correctly. It seems many students have conflicting information. Judy, are you taking pharm on campus? I am struggling so much in that class. I joined a study group out of desperation. Normally, I study alone because I can focus better. Hopefully, this study group helps me out a lot. I did not apply for the AP program since I did not have all my prereqs finished by the application due date.

UTA Spring 2012
I was accepted into the traditional program. My overall gpa was a 3.7. My science gpa was a 4.0. I did not have any special considerations. Now, I only need to get through pharm... The professor I have is ridiculous... @SA423, Your Hesi score is not a factor, as long as you pass it. @Judy. I don't think that matters as long as you are enrolled in the classes and will complete them before nursing school starts. I am currently taking Intro, Patho, and Pharm. I will be finished with them in mid December.

UTA Spring 2012
Congrats lad! My gpa's are similiar, so that does give me some hope. Did you meet any of the requirements for the special considerations? My last name starts with a 'W', so my letter will probably be one of the last ones mailed :/

UTA Spring 2012
When I was told that you need a 3.5 gpa to be competitive, they did not specify whether it was the overall or science gpa. I assume they mean both.... Kaystarz, I share your pain about chemistry. I took the class during the summer also and the professor was horrible. I could barely understand his country accent and his lectures were so confusing. I failed the first test, freaked out, and hired a professional tutor. If I did not hire a tutor, I'm sure I would have failed that course. But thanks to her, I passed :)

@ eldraper7- For the traditional program, I've been told that you need a 3.5 to be competitive.

I'm taking all 3 of those courses now. Patho is easy for me, but Pharm is harder. Personally, I wished I could have taken Patho and Pharm separately, but my schedule did not allow it. If I could have taken them separately, I would have taken Patho and Intro during the Spring, that way I could build a foundation on diseases . Then I would take Pharm during the summer, and then learn about the various medications to treat those diseases. I think Pharm would have been easier for me if I took Patho first, because I would know more about the diseases and therefore better understand how the medications work to treat them. Intro is easy, but it is a pain. Patho and Pharm are more important, so I always forget about the homework and end up doing it last minute. Plus, we have to attend various events (a club meeting, a uta fun event, a work shop, a community service event) on our own time. Its like a freshmen orientation class.

UTA Spring 2012
Tejas, I hope time flies also. I am getting anxious, especially since I don't have a back up plan. One of the advisers talked to my Intro to Nursing class a few days ago. She said they will be mailing the letters the first week of November. For the spring, 700 people applied to the online program and 500 to the campus based program. Last fall, 600 applied for the campus based program. She said that traditionally less people apply for the spring programs compared to the fall. She also said that you need a 3.5 to be competitive.

UTA Spring 2012
Has anyone taken Pharm and Patho on compus at UTA? If so do you have any tips? Patho is completely based on tests and Pharm is based on quizzes and tests ( very intimidating!). There is so much pressure to make an A since I don't know if I will get accepted in to the program and may have to reapply. Good luck with your courses everyone!

UTA Spring 2012
@ nikkibro. I will probably email my adviser everyday until she writes me back. lol. I hope I can get a hold of someone over the phone. I'm really freaking out, because classes start next Thursday and I will be out of town. I can't help that I have to register last minute, because my class ended Monday and grades were posted Tuesday.

UTA Spring 2012
@ nikkibro. Not all courses require you to go to campus to take tests. I would email the professors if you can and ask if you do have to take the classes on campus. My Art professor, M. Azarhooshang, did not require us to go on campus to take the test. We were allowed to take open book exams at home.

UTA Spring 2012
Is anyone having trouble contacting their adviser? How long does it usually take them to respond? I had to ask my adviser a question a couple weeks ago, so I emailed her, but she never emailed me back. I was finally able to get a hold of a very helpful lady over the phone though. I emailed my adviser yesterday so I could get clearance to register for Patho and Pharm, but she has not emailed me back or answered her phone. I was hoping I could get registered before Friday, because I am going out of town that day. I was hoping I could get this settled before the trip so I can actual enjoy it and not have to worry about registering. lol

@ Nikkibro. If you want my opinion of the professors I took, let me know. I will be happy to let me you know.

UTA Spring 2012
@ Nikkibro. Navarro College offers many of the prereqs online. I've taken Art, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Texas Government online with that school. I made A's in all of those classes. The only catch was that I had to go to a campus to take the test and finals (for all of those classes exepmt Art). Most teachers I've had give you about 1-2 weeks to take the tests/finals. As long as you do all your work and don't procrastinate, you will do fine.

UTA Spring 2012
@ tejas. So far, I have really enjoyed taking most of my prereqs at a community college. It is a lot closer to home, classes are smaller, and the professors know you by name. I admit I am intimidated by the fact that some of my classes at UTA will have more students than my high school class! I hope I will enjoy Patho as much as you did! I agree with you about the advisers being overwhelmed. Though, it is frustrating that UTA can't hire more advisers to help with the high volume of applicants.

UTA Spring 2012
@ tejas. When I talked to an adviser a few months back, she also downplayed the importance of taking the courses at UTA for special consideration if you have a good gpa. I'm taking all of my prereqs at local community college, so I was glad to know that. I called the nursing department at UTA and finally got a hold of someone there. She was able to confirm that they would reserve seats in Patho and Pharm for Spring 2012 applicants. I assume the reserved spots are not displayed on mymav. I was getting worried, because on mymav it now shows that the Pharm courses are completely filled and that there are 21 spots left for Patho.

UTA Spring 2012
@ msmila I wonder why they don't let you mix on campus and online courses. I guess I may have to take those 3 courses online if I can't get into the on-campus classes.

UTA Spring 2012
@ Libra. I'm taking my classes on campus. I wonder if I can take a few courses online and on campus at the same time. I prefer on campus, but if I have to take them on line if that is what I have to do. I just need to take the 3 nursing prereqs so I can get in. There's only a few spots left for Pharm and Patho (on campus). I'm afraid they will be gone when I finish Chem in 2 weeks. I really wish they would let me register before I finish chem. I know I will pass the class with at least a B. If I can't take them in the fall, I'm really hoping that they will have those 2 classes available during the Winter Intersession. I called my adviser and no one answered of course. So emailed her instead. How long does it take them to respond?

UTA Spring 2012
Hi! I'm also applying for the UTA traditional program. I am thinking about apply to TWU in Dallas as my back up plan. Does anyone know how competitive TWU's nursing program is compared to UTA's? Back in May, my adviser told that they reserve spots for Pharm and Patho for nursing school applicants, and as long as I pass chemistry during the summer, I will be fine when I go to register for classes. Is that true? It's hard to believe that they can reserve seats with the amount of applicants to the program. My chem class wont even be through until the 15th. I'm trying to get a hold of an adviser, but it is difficult since my old one is no longer working for them. Now, they are telling me I have to talk to the Chemistry department about taking Pharm and Patho. I wish everyone the best of luck getting in!
