  1. doune, I am not. quite a few of us in the program weren't in diabetes education (i.e. in a clinic) during the program. dunno what they're doing now. I'm still working inpatient, but I'm looking for opportunities around where I live. right now, i'm working towards preparing for my CDE as I do a lot of diabetes educating with my inpatients (since the education they receive from our educators is a little....suboptimal). so yes and no, I suppose. I provide diabetes education to my patients in the inpatient setting when able, but not to a degree that that is my official job title/role, though I am looking for it to be soon.
  2. Hello, gracielaleiva. I actually just graduated with my MSN in Diabetes Nursing last month. Aside from the school you listed, Capella University is the only other school I'm aware of that offers such a degree. Here is the link to their MSN in Diabetes part of their site: Masters in Diabetes Nursing Degree Online - Capella University This is the school I attended. It wasn't super difficult, just a lot of paper writing like pretty much any other MSN program would be. Definitely learn a good bit in the diabetes specialization courses. Also, if finances are a concern (as it was with me), Capella is more affordable than Columbia (i.e. one credit hour of a Columbia course is about the cost of a single Capella course (4 credit hours)). If you have any other questions, let me know.
  3. Hi, I am currently nearing the completion of the MSN - Diabetes program at Capella University and just wanted to see if anyone could answer me two questions: 1. What all does the capstone course entail? 2. I was told by a student advisor (and not solicited information), that I could only take Capstone or Immersion course separately, not together. However, there is no documentation in the University Course Catalog nor anywhere in the program description that reports this statement to be true, factual, or part of the program structure. So would anyone be able to tell me why the advisor would be saying such? 3. I guess I have a third question, if anyone on these boards has completed this program at this school, have you, or anyone you know of, taken both the Capstone and Immersion courses together? I look forward to any information anyone may have. Thanks.
  4. Congrats to you guys who got accepted. Myself, as well as about 400+ others, were e-mailed a rejection notice en masse. Personally, I don't care that I wasn't accepted, but the fact that all rejected applicants' e-mail addresses are visible for all to see in a rejection e-mail is a bit unprofessional in my opinion. Good luck, guys!
  5. I am currently intending on at least trying working full-time at first to see how it goes. Where I work, we don't have scheduled OT, so we only work 3 days a week so that's nice...but this is, of course, assuming I receive an acceptance, haha. My scheduling also leaves wiggle room for "extended" time off. I'm off every other weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) work Monday, off Tues-Thurs and I have maxed out PTO time so I intend on using PTO on those Mondays to effectively have a week or so off every month. Will be interesting to see how that works out.
  6. They should just go on and accept all of us simply d/t emotional distress and inability to adhere to explicitly stated timeframes on their own website thus delaying the decision-making of those of us considering fall-back avenues of educational advancement. That, or greatly reduce tuition for the initial semester d/t the aforementioned reasons and tacking on the reason of acceptance/denial notices being issued essentially weeks before the semester begins....
  7. Any word yet on anything? Its pretty much the end of the month, haha.
  8. Thanks, tweety1023. I just looked it up, but it looks as though NursingCAS is just figuring everything up as it is entered. I'm assuming U.S.A. will do any necessary adjusting as per their stated admission requirements which would have my GPA different than what NursingCAS has listed. I dunno. Is what it is.
  9. Hey guys, I've seen on other posts in other threads about this school how they saw what GPA was calculated by NursingCAS. I was just curious if anyone around here knows how to look that info up or was it something that was just being mentioned in other students' decision letters?
  10. Just got my mail as well. Still nothing....I can't help but have this thought "If a school says they'll send out info during a specific time and doesn't notify you of a delay in mailing off said information (I'm just saying 'cause I haven't received any e-mails notifying me of such) then is this an indicator of how correspondence in the program might be???" but I'm sure this is just the impatience talking....
  11. Hi all, I just recently found this thread. I wanted to input that I also applied for the MSN Dual Role (ER/FNP) program for this fall and have not yet received anything in the mail (either yea or nay). Glad to see I'm not alone in my personal limbo of waiting. I have a co-worker who was recently accepted into their BSN-DNP program (same track) and she said she didn't receive her acceptance later until about 3 months after the application deadline. Kinda makes me wonder why they're so behind on sending out letters? Is it unorganization? High volume of applicants to sift through? Acceptance of high volumes of students into the programs and not wanting to stagger out letters? Educational sadism??? Haha, good luck to everyone who applied.
  12. Hey all, I was wondering if anyone here has any first hand experience working at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas or their Louis, Peaches and Owen Heart Hospital? I've lately begun researching their facility and services and am considering applying for a job there to work in a focused cardiac setting which is where my growing interest is being found. If anyone has any information regarding this place, I'd be most appreciative. I'm wondering things like, 1. What is it like to work for them? 2. What is the work environment like (i.e. staff, administration, etc.), 3. General feel of the health system there as compared to other hospitals (i.e. is it a hospital that fosters an atmosphere of camaraderie and teamwork vs. clique-laden, high school drama, alpha-nurse dominance issues), 4. Is the experience accrued there something that would have left you feeling as if you gained something positive vs. experienced something negative? and 5. (although this isn't really a huge factor, but is a factor nonetheless) was pay scale satisfactory given the specialty in question and at the institution of topic? I don't know anyone who has worked there or is currently working there. I live about a 1.5 hours outside of Tyler, TX and am just looking at options. Any advice would be helpful, thanks to all in advance!
  13. Hi. I just recently became PCCN certified (about 2 weeks ago). All I did to study for it was I borrowed some CCRN Review DVDs by Gasparis-Vonfrolio and headed over to www.ed4nurses.com and got some of the downloads from David Woodruff (Fluid/Electrolyte Balances, ABGs, Cardiac Assessments, etc). Either one of them are good to learn from, in my opinion. The test didn't seem super difficult to me. I honestly didn't feel like the 2 hours it took me to finish the test was actually 2 hours, felt like half that hah. Good luck to ya.
  14. Same thing happened to me but I'm not too worried about it. I've actually had some interviews having left my experience of those 3 months on my resume, but I'm still looking, . Just a matter of time. You're probably not meant to be in that environment and about to find yourself somewhere more suited to you. Good luck!
  15. Do you have to have 1 year of nursing experience to become an agency nurse or is it possible to do that straight out the chute?
