  1. Hi :) It seems like a few people on this thread participated in the pipeline interview days earlier this year. I know it's a newer program they're doing at CHOP, so I was wondering if anyone who did them could offer up some perspective as to what they were like, how competitive it is, etc? I'm going to the pipeline day next week and I'm pretty nervous! CHOP is my dream job, so any advice you can offer would be great! Thanks!
  2. Thanks for that info Pandmonium! Just scheduled my initial HR interview day for the end of the month :)
  3. Hey everyone, I'm a new grad currently in the oh so fun process of applying for my first position. I'm interested in both NICU and Peds, but, given the current job market, I've applied for a few med-surg jobs as well. About 2 weeks ago I applied for a NICU position at the hospital whose PICU I interned in. A few days ago they contacted me for an interview with the Nurse Manager- this Thursday! I had an awesome experience at this hospital and I really, really want this job. I'm trying to prepare as best I can, but NICU is such a unique area and it seems like there's so much to go over in the next few days. So, I'm wondering if anyone can offer a few of the most prevalent topics and conditions I can review in the next couple days? I have friends that have interviewed for med-surg positions at this hospital, and have heard that the interviews were heavy on situational questions. Given that NICU is so specialized, I'm not sure if this will be the case in my interview as well, but I definitely want to be as prepared as possible. My other question is about specialty areas. I love working with little ones, and I would eventually like to work for a few years in NICU, then spend some time in Peds and/or PICU before I decide about specializing further with my NP. Is it okay to mention this in the interview? And, is this something that many NICU nurses do? Is it difficult to transition from NICU to Peds? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)
  4. I recently graduated nursing school and from what I've seen, there are many opportunities out there for accelerated students to gain extra experience. With the increasing numbers of accelerated programs, more and more hospitals are implementing programs that fit into these schedules. I know NYU Medical Center has an externship that takes place for the month you have off in the summer. After that month, the program continues for the rest of the next semester every other weekend. Lenox Hill has a winter externship that takes place in a similar fashion. NY Presbyterian also has part-time Nurse Companion positions that are open to students after completing a semester of nursing school. You can also look for jobs such as nursing assistant or unit secretary that will at least give you some experience in the hospital setting, as well as an "in" at that hospital. Even just volunteering at a hospital can give you an edge when it comes to applying for jobs. You can expect nursing school to be an incredibly busy time, but if you plan accordingly you should definitely be able to get some experience as an accelerated student! Best of luck to you!
  5. I tested on July 12th and my license number was up on the state website by the 22nd. My actual paper copy of my license probably came another week later. So definitely keep checking on the state website - I imagine yours would be up fairly soon!
  6. Hey everyone. I'm a new a grad RN for May 2011 and I'm really interested in working for CHOP - its basically my dream job. I spoke to a recruiter at a job fair back in April and was put on a list for their RN Pipeline Interview Days, which were originally supposed to be next week but are now moved to September. The thing is though, I'm not really sure much about what these days entail and there isn't a ton of info out there about them. Are all prospective new grads invited to these interview days? If anyone who works at CHOP or has been through this process could provide me with anything you know about it, I'd really appreciate it!
