Thanks for the inspiring comment ShannonRN09... it is nice to know that some students have gotten through this program successfully and are almost done. Good Luck with clinicals ...the end is almost near!! Has anyone heard of other students graduating yet or at least on their final classes (Capstone classes)? Also how are the NP classes (Pharmacology, Patho) formatted? Are they timed tests, quizzes, discussion boards? Any input would be great. Thanks, L.James

CookiePB, Whew! I almost lost it thinking that I had to take 6 more classes!! Thanks for the clarification...did anyone/advisor clarify that for you...should I call to verify? Makes complete sense though, since its essentially the same classes, they just split it up by age group. Thanks everyone! Keep us updated to any changes...did you guys notice they put the GRE requirement back up? We made it just in time :) LJames

Thanks emsangel and TraceyMarino for the info. That is really helpful to all of us going through the classes and looking forward to the clinical aspect of the program. It really clears up a lot of confusion and at least we know that the school is trying to help. Good luck to you both and keep us posted with any updates or changes PLEASE! LJ

St Joseph's College of Maine FNP program students
Hello FNP students! It's been a while since I've posted something but I've been reading the posts from time to time and these last comments have me a bit confused. I was unaware that to start the FNP courses (NU 604 and on) along with it's clinical you had to wait for a group/cohort to start with you...Am I understanding that correctly? and if there isn't 6 students ready to go, you have to wait to get started? That seems not only crazy but also a waste of time if 6 students aren't ready to go and you are?!? Anyone currently doing their clinicals, is this correct? I am only on my 3rd and 4th class so I have time before I need to worry about that, but I would like to know in advance and be prepared. Thanks to everyone! LJ

Nurseheeler, Wow! Now I'm really confused...in the CCNE website they are listed as an accredited school/nursing program with their next review date being 2019. I'll try to look into that more, thanks for the info. LJ

ICU to OR, any advice?
Thanks for the reply... I know what you mean about the salary. When talking to the PA he said that was their #1 problem, their salaries. He said they kept losing people after the 2 year mark because at that point they were better trained and could get paid way more somewhere else. I think it depends on your state and hospital as well, unfortunately. Hopefully we will start to see more nurses in this role- I think we will be the complete package! because we have the bedside plus the degree and then the skills in the OR!! Thanks again, LJ

ICU to OR, any advice?
Hi everyone! I have been a nurse for about 6 years now (Floor nursing and CVICU) and I am about to transfer into the OR. I just started NP school and my ultimate goal is to get some OR experience while I'm in school (about 2-3 years) and eventually work with a surgical team as a Nurse Practitioner. I would love work as a first assist and possibly work in CVOR where the NP or PA get to do EVH and other surgical duties. They currently have this position available where I work and I have spoken with one of the P.A.'s, and he told me that I should get some OR experience since the NP program does not really offer the surgical training, like the PA program does. The job position is for a NP/PA-CVOR. Finally my question... Have any of you OR nurses seen many NP's work in the OR as a first assist with a surgical group? I have seen many jobs available throughout the country but I have not met many NP's doing this. I know it can be done- but I wanted to know if there are any experiences you can all tell me about. Thank you so much, LJ

Leahbrasher... Like canchaser said, expect an email. The email will give you your student ID # and password to log into the angel network. Once you are there, you can see all of the units, info, books, etc about the class. I am registered for Nursing informatics as well.

Sorry guys, just found the answer to my own question...I guess it is 4 books for nursing informatics! :) For the students that have taken this class, anything we should look out for? any advice? Thanks!

Nice rprn2009! That sounds good! Quick question... I'm getting ready to order my books but I noticed they have (4) books that show up as required for nursing informatics...is that correct? That sounds like quite a bit of book for one class, just want to make sure before I order them. When I log into the Angel learning suite, it does not give me a specific book to use (unless I missed it) ...any advice? I will be buying them online to save some money, I just don't want to buy the wrong books or too many books, Thanks! L.

rprn2009, Wow! I did not know you could do that (overlapping courses), Thats great! I will probably do the same if possible. Will you start clinicals in summer 2012? or did you mean 2013? When did you start the program?

St Joseph College of Maine Reviews
Hey everyone... just wanted to let you all know that I started a new thread named: "St. Joseph's College of Maine FNP students" so that we could communicate a bit closer about the program itself. It is for current and new students to try to share any info/advice about the program. Once we get started we can probably communicate via email or here about courses, etc in the program. Check it out if you like! L.James
