Another month down
Would love some feed back from CA RN's. I go before the board this Thursday (13 June, 2013). My anxiety has been pretty level so far. However, getting a little nervous as this Thursday draws near. I would love to some feedback from anyone who has had a hearing before the board for reinstatement. I've attended board hearings, and have a good idea how they are conducted. But, I am not able to see the final outcome of these RN's. Blessings GDD

Reinstated; What now?
Hey folks I'll have my RN licencse reinstated in a month or two. I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. I need some advice as to how to approach getting a postition in a facility. I have heard that some HR departments dump applications from nurses with restrictions on their license. I surrendered my license to the Ca. BRN in June 2005. I was addicted to Opiates and alcohol, and could not see how I could ever become sober. So, I gave up. I now have 4 1/2 years of recovery. I feel that I'm a much better person; and I'm a more grounded person than I was before my addiction began. Before surrendering my license, I had worked in the acute care and home health setting. I have experiecne in ICU/CCU, Med-surg, and DOU. I know that home health is off the table. I'd like to return to acute care nursing. I'd like to get a fair chance to prove myself. Does anyone have advice on how to get through the "gatekeepers" namely the HR department. Blessings

Clean and Sober! California Nurse Wants to Reinstate.
Morning I voluntarily surrendered my license in June 2005. I am an alcoholic/narcotic addict. I was investigated by the BRN for drug diversion. After a prolonged legal struggle, I decided it was best to surrender my license to the BRN. I'm on a one year countdown before I can begin to apply to get my California RN License back. After being clean and sober for close to four years, I feel I'm ready to get my license reinstated. I cannot apply for reinstate for another 12 months because my probation with LA county will not end until then (probation is unrelated to my license.) Therefore, I want to spend the next year planning and preparing myself for success with the BRN. I'd really appreciate some advice or feedback from any nurse knowledgeable in this area. Some of the things I'd like to know are: 1. my chance at success, 2.Things that the BRN want to see, 3.How the process works, 4.and any other nuggets of information that may be applicable. I'd also love to hear the stories of those of you who have taken control of your addiction, and the success you have had after going into recovery. As for me, recovery is awesome. I have suffered a lot of consequences as a result of my addiction. But through recovery, I have found myself. I've never been happier in all my life. Now, I'd like to go back into nursing with a new lease on things. Blessing GDD
