  1. Hi everyone! I am considering working as a CNA while in nursing school to help pay for my tuition. I am wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what a CNA makes in a hospital setting. I have about a year of experience on Med/Surg and I am a certified phlebotomist (with experience). I guess I am open to working in the lab too, if the pay is better. Any advice/ideas would be appreciated! I am doing a Second Degree BSN program and have all my prereqs completed (except Texas' history requirement, which I'll have to do prior to the nursing courses). I plan on working my current full-time job and saving up for a year while doing the few non-nursing classes need for the Bachelor's then work as a CNA or phlebotomist during nursing school. My federal loans are pretty much maxed out so I am trying to figure out how to pay for my nursing degree. I think this should do it but I am just trying to get an idea of how much I'll have to save and how much I'll have to work during nursing school. Thanks for any advice/information you can give me! :)
  2. I'm not sure about all the statistics for the whole program but I have a 4.0 for my admission GPA (only the highest 4 science courses are counted) and I did well on the TEAS exam (upper 10th percentile I think?). My undergrad gpa was above a 3.5 and I have CNA experience as well. I was admitted to the October 2012 cohort but unfortunately could not attend because I was pregnant and due in January during the 2 week bootcamp (otherwise I would have done it!) Anyway, good luck with the application process and I hope you are successful!
  3. Hi! I was just writing to report I got the email! I'm IN!! :) I can't believe it! Now to figure out how to pay for it all!
  4. Awesome.. thank you so much! I did have a question though. Since the application deadline is mid semester, I will be halfway done with my last prereq when I apply. Do you think that will be okay? My gpa is good and I have a CNA job right now. Hopefully, that will be enough! Do you still have the TEAS manual and wanna sell it?! :) Thanks so much for the response and congrats on getting in! Keep us posted on how the program goes!
  5. Hi all! I was just wondering if anyone else out there is applying for the October 2012 Cohort for UW's Accel. BSN?! I am getting all my ducks in a row to apply and was hoping to find some friends out there who also might be applying. I am getting excited (and nervous) and I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. Also, anyone have any info on the TEAS? I'm curious about competitive scores, etc... Is it really that difficult? Should I buy the study guide? I've heard a lot of different things so if anyone has information on this, I'd greatly appreciate it! Hope to hear from you soon if you are applying/have applied or are in a previous cohort in the program! ~Katie
  6. Just so everyone knows for future, I contacted UW Oshkosh about Straighterliner and they DO NOT accept these credits. They said they can work with CLEP (testing out of subjects) but not ACE accredited transfer credits. Too bad because it seemed like a good deal to me!
  7. Thanks so much.. will do that on Monday!
  8. I'm sorry to open a new thread but I am concerned about Straighterline classes transferring to the schools I'm applying to. Does anyone know much about this? I am hoping to get my ABSN from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and I REALLY need biology done before Feb. 15th. Any advice?! Thanks so much!
  9. Thanks for both replies. I am unsure about the CNL because I want to get my graduate degree after 4-5 years as an RN. I am unsure of what specialty. I know I could continue on with a CNL but the added cost might be hard for me. I wasn't aware of financial aid for graduate programs though... I'm looking into it further! Thanks!
  10. I just had a question about admissions to ABSN programs. I know they are incredible but I wanted to know my chances of getting in. I am think of applying to Bowie, Howard, Towson, & Coppin. I am graduating with honor's with a BS in Interdisiplinary: Math, Stats and Comp Sci. While I have enjoyed this degree and planned on teaching, I was a TA this last semester for a calculus class and found teaching might not be for me. I have always wanted to do nursing but my life led me other directions .. (the school my husband was attending did not offer it so I chose something else) My University GPA is 3.8 but my over GPA (with jr. college included) is 3.4 The pre-reqs I have completed are as follows: Physiology: A Chem: A Micro: A Lifespan Psych: C (Jr. College... might retake) Stat: A- I have an RN and a few professors that will write me good letters of recommendation and I plan on starting on my application (essay) right away. Anyway.. My question is if I continue to get A's in the rest of my pre-reqs, what are my chances of getting into these schools? Thanks in advance!
