I have one on the horizon!! Was offered one with 3 12's--rock solid schedule-never changes-always same days. No meds or treatments (yeah right!). and same money. Plus a great DON. I used to work with her at the hell hole we both worked at before this one. I am off for a month after having surgery--so I am weighing my options!

Suebird--The LTC where I used to work--126 patients-I worked 11-7 shift. I was the ONLY nurse. 4 aides (if we were lucky)-usually three. Had to do all accuchecks at 6 am (about 20) and 10 or so meds. Plus about 15 medicare followups. Oh, and blood draws! I no longer work there.

Got a question, just wanted some input. When I recently started at a nursing home, I started with block schedule-12 hour shifts. Worked fine.........until the NEW plan came into effect. Now, we work 8 hour shifts-except on weekends and holidays--then 12 hours. And if they can't find someone to fill the shift--they put someone on to fill it. Can they DO this??? I guess it really sucks, because you finally get your own routine going--then you work a different shift, or an 8 hour instead of a 12 hour, etc. etc. Also--they are talking of implementing an on-call system that you would be REQUIRED to participate in! SHEESH!!!!! Any ideas? We aren't union or anything.

I have a question-I hope someone can help with. I have worked with alot of PEG tubes, but we currently have one which is giving us problems. Recently, the tubing is coming undone and needs to be secured to the PEG. It is like there is pressure pushing the tubing (feeding tubing) back out?? Why is it doing this?? It has been fine before. No one seems to know the answer. Any help?

Well, the Imitrex worked--until morning when her headache was back at a "6." Got ahold of the doctor at about 9 am, they ended up sending me to the neurologist--who promptly said, "Let's get one thing straight--this is NOT allergies!" Gee-I could have told you that@!!! So she gave her Zomig nasal spray, waited a half hour--headache gone. And had me give another oral Zomig in 3 hours. That took care of it. She said that the Imitrex is too short-acting, and since the migraine had gone on for so long--we needed bigger guns for it!! So now she has a Zomig at home, dad's, school, and in her backpack, so she can take one instantly at the first sign of a headache!!!!

Thanks for all your suggestions!! We did go to the Dr. Even though her ONLY symptom was the headache-- she suggested that I double the Motrin doseage and start on Extendryl possibly due to allergies. (She has a well defined hx of allergies/asthma) and if that didn't help, then try Imitrex, which she gave me an RX for. Well, I'm sorry but when your daughter has had an excruciating headache for three days, what do ya think I did??? Yep, headed straight for the pharmacy. Gave her the Imitrex and within a half hour--headache went from a 9 to a 4. She has been sleeping soundly now for 2 hours. Miracle drug. Boy I knew the stuff was expensive--thank god for insurance. 9 pills (my insurance limit) was 187.00. Copay $25.00. Although if I had to--I would have paid the full price to get relief for the poor kid. Thanks again for your help. I just hope that this dosent become a cycle. I will keep a diary of diet, etc. and watch more closely--maybe I can discover a trigger. Robyn

She will generally share with me any problems at school. She actually loves school. She is the only child I know that was excited to go back to school. She has had some problems with one girl, but she tells me about them and it dosent bother her.

The "pop" did freak me out for a second. After she said it I watched her and did not see anything abnormal. Of course in my head I'm thinking "ANEURYSM!!!" Can someone have a migraine with no migraine symptoms?? Does that make sense?? The one and only complaint is that her whole head hurts. No aura, no photophobia, no nausea, etc. She dosen't want to lay in a dark room, etc. She will watch TV and read and I think when she goes to the doctor, they think, "Gee, she looks okay to us." but she is truly hurting. Just because she isn't laying in my lap dosen't mean she isn't hurting. I think she just got to the point where she thought, nothing is going to help this, so I'll just have to live with it! But as a mother, you know by looking at your child when they are hurting. Tonight she tried to refuse Motrin because she said, "It's not going to help anyway." It is SOO frustrating.

No typical migraine symptoms--but I guess I just want reassurance that I am not jumping the gun here. If the meds helped--I can understand, but the concern for me is that they don't help. She is a tough kid too. She does have asthma and allergies and feels lousy alot of times but I think is so used to it that she dosen't complain!! I am planning on seeing her Pediatrician in the a.m. whether they like it or not!! Actually her doc is very good and very understanding.

Hi. I would appreciate some advice. My daughter is 10. About 4 months ago, she started having a bad headache. Advil, Tylenol--nothing would get rid of it. She said it did NOTHING to relieve the pain. I took her to the Urgent Care Center after two days and no relief. No other symptoms. No n/v, dizziness, photophobia, etc. Well, needless to say I was not thrilled with that visit. So I took her to her pediatrician's the next day. She ordered sinus xrays--neg. and a CT-also neg. Wanted us to try Naproxen and Allegra. We did--did not help. Eventually after about 3 days, the headache went away. Now it is back. For two days now. Nothing is helping. The Naproxen helped she said--"for a little bit." She rates it about an 8 or 9. She also complained earlier of a "weird pop" that intensified the headache. She has no other symptoms. Just a headache over her entire head-it is not localized. Any suggestions! Help! I can see in her eyes how much she is hurting. She is not faking this--unlike what the Urgent Care Dr. tried to tell me. When should we see a Neurologist???
