  1. How are you all liking GUH? I have an interview in the ED there next week and curious of current RNs thoughts of the facility/work environment. I appreciate any feedback you can offer. Thanks!
  2. Hello, I realize the above info is a bit dated but I am curious, did you ever move to Switzerland to work?? I am considering the same thing although I have been a nurse for 9+ yrs. I was also active duty Air Force and was stationed in England for 3 yrs and then worked at the Army hospital in Germany for 2 yrs as a civilian, so I have a couple different perspectives of nursing at military hospitals if you still have any questions. Would love to hear about you Swiss experience! It's a beautiful country so hope you made it to live there! Lisa D
  3. Hey there I am getting ready to finish my first year in the BSN-DNP ED dual role track....in 12d to be exact. I think you are exactly on track with your thought process. Mine was similar when I applied, although my plan is to get the most generic, marketable degree so I can go sit on some far off embassy when I am old :-) I was a bit intimidated when I applied and did not think I would get accepted based on my experience....9yrs total nursing experience with only one in the ED, and a small ED at that. But everyone I met at the orientation had slim to no ED experience and most didn't even work in an acute care setting. As for my experience so far....I like it. You definitely have to be motivated to self learn, which works for me. I never got much out of traditional, lecture-style methods. I am doing the 4yr track (for a few reasons) and the first two semesters were very writing intensive. After I learned how to scholarly write again in the first semester, the second semester was relatively easy. This summer, I have been taking 3 classes and it's MUCH busier but totally doable. As much as I complained about going to the mandatory orientation (I was living in Germany at the time and didn't think the $$ to get there would be worth it), it has been useful in terms of networking, meeting other students, study buddies, etc. Not sure if you are a facebooker but there are some sites that people created on there for the program. Although, I try not to read too much of them because complaining, stress, etc. The program is so far completely doable, even while working full time. Nothing is overly hard...it's like undergrad, it's a lot of work but not necessarily hard work. I have no idea how to PM on this site....if you need more info, feel free to shoot me an email: [email protected] Best of luck to you! Lisa
  4. Hey there, I am in the USA ENP/DNP program and so far like it. But I prefer online learning over classrooms and lectures. And from what I remember when I was applying, it's much more affordable than the other programs. I have a friend in the hospital that I work in that did one semester in the UAB NICU NP program and is taking a semester off. She found it incredibly frustrating and difficult. However, I don't know her well enough to get a vibe on her stress levels, study habits, etc. My general view on nursing school is it's a lot of work, but not usually too incredibly difficult work. Anyways, not sure if that helps. Best of luck to you! Lisa
  5. Thanks for the feedback. It's much appreciated! Good luck in your studies! Lisa
  6. that's really weird. shoot me an email and i can forward you the info i have [email protected]
  7. Kenyohunt I think I tried to reply on an earlier thread but this is my first time replying on allnurses so who knows if it went through...my apologies if you get this twice! I start the ENP program at USA in Aug. I asked the program managers if they could hook us up with current/previous students for questions, but no luck. Anyways, one big question I have is the books. I have been looking at the required books list and am wondering what your experience has been...do you need to buy all the books?? any recommendations so far which ones are really "required"?? Also, how many hours are you taking a semester?? When I talked to the advisor, she said she really only recommends people take 2 classes a semester. I will be working full time at least through the first two semesters and am curious how you find the case load. Of course I would like to finish it ASAP but is that really doable?? Thank you in advance and hope you are finding your studies challenging and rewarding! Lisa

  9. Hey there I am starting in Fall 2011 ENP program. I have only received two emails saying they are still processing our packets. Soooo, pretty much, no, I haven't heard anything. Have you talked to any previous/current students?? I asked the program director if there was a system set up to network and no such luck. It would be nice to know what books really needed, how many classes feasible per semester with working (I know that is somewhat relative to the student), etc. Hope all is well! Lisa
  10. Hello! I am also joining the Fall 2011 ENP-DNP class. And of course would LOVE to network prior to the orientation. I asked the program director if there was any sort of process in place for this and no dice. Hope all is well and look forward to meeting everyone! Lisa
