UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE
Hi K Kaur - I'm also booked for 17 Nov. - hoping it will be a glorious day for all :) Are you in UK at the moment? I'm presently in London, trying to find a nursing school in the area that might help me to prepare. Otherwise I'm just reviewing the NILE websites and a couple of textbooks I have. Let me know if you want to prepare together.

Don't give up. That's what nmc wants you to do and it's ridiculous. They apparently lost one of my papers too until I called and asked about it. I also wrote a complaint, since I had something to say. When they responded, I finally got my decision letter last week. :) you should have yours soon too.

UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE
I resubmitted my declaration of good health on July 13th. When I called today, they told me that "right now is our busiest time" so it's taking the full 10 weeks to be re-assessed. They also told me that they may have lost my new declaration of good health or were trying to locate it... so I guess I'll be submitting it to them for the 4th time. it all seems so efficient.

UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE
Hi EDRN - I'm also a US-trained ED nurse.... and have been in the process since June of last year. Pretty similar circumstances! Best of luck to us both in finally registering :) Hopefully you'll get your DL any day now...and a really big HOPEFULLY they won't tell you that they require further/new documents or else you'll go back in the queue like me. I was probably just very unlucky since I spent about 15 weeks in the queue the first time around (I think it took them 8 weeks or something completely ridiculous to scan one of my documents from the time I hand delivered them). As far as the immigration situation, what I've been told is that NMC is completely out of the picture. It's up to you and your company in UK to do everything regarding the working visa. Have you spoken to your company about it yet?? Usually they need to apply for your C.O.S. (certificate of sponsorship) but they are usually unable to do this until NMC gives you the green light to take your OSCE - because then you will have a specific date to provide on the visa that will detail when you'll be in the country and when you'll likely start working. The thing is, you should contact NMC NOW and see if they can give you an answer ASAP. I've heard that companies are ONLY able to apply for the C.O.S. during the first FIVE days of the month, and that would be RIGHT NOW on Mon, Tues, or Weds. If NMC doesn't get your DL now (which they probably won't, because well, you know...), you'll have to wait until next month to start the C.O.S. application. After about 2 weeks, your company will receive notice from UK visas whether or not the COS has been approved, and at that time it's up to you to do your biometrics appt, submit the visa application, and mail in your passport. Hope this helps. We should get in touch since I think our situations are similar. Which area of UK are you planning to work in? Good luck w/ NMC!

i had a form that wasn't ok with them. they say you return to the beginning of the queue, so it will take "up to 70 days" to make an new assessment (but in some cases longer... i know my first time around in the queue was over 100 days) reportedly if this is your second time around in the queue, it takes about 6 weeks. then, if they find another issue and send you back around for a third time in the queue, it takes about 4 weeks. this is what i was told.

are there additional videos/preparatory materials on the university of northampton website? i was under the impression that once you officially booked the test, they would make these additional study materials available to you.

Yes, you just have to email NMC overseas team and very specifically state which documents you want them to transfer over. Then they'll send you an email to confirm they're able to do it or not.

the problem was that i had my declaration of health signed by an NP rather than an MD. NMC will not give you any information about whether the documents are sufficient, even if you call to ask, until you are done waiting in the brutal "queue." to add more frustration, my documents were "assessed" back in january under the old process and my form was also completed by an NP. they gave me no feedback or indication that this was not sufficient. had they done a proper assessment, i wouldn't be in this situation. alas, they do not care.

I waited for 105 days before hearing any feedback from NMC. turns out one of my documents wasn't okay and needed to be re-submitted. apparently, this means i go back to the beginning of the queue to wait for my one document to be assessed because their system is incompetent. Since june there's been a change in the number of visas allowed, so i've heard that a lot of CoS applications are being rejected.

What I was told from CTN is that they will subsidize OSCE (I believe 50% if you commit to working 4 contracts w/them) and they will have to pay a fee in the certificate of sponsorship, so the fee for the Visa is on us. We are also responsible to cover the IELTS and CBT. Luckily it's good for 3 years, but sadly there's some changes in UK visas so it's not as easy to be approved :-/

sherry - we are not supposed to pay northampton uni until NMC gives us the authorization to sit the exam. the university told me that they are not able to release their study materials or a calendar of available dates UNTIL a person has the authorization from NMC to take the test. in theory, you can purchase the exam before you get authorization from the NMC, but the university will still not be able to give you access to study materials until they get your name on an approved list from the NMC. the fee is also non-refundable so it's probably not a good idea to pay for it until you have the authorization to take it anyways. the university has a website if you search for "nmc test of competence" it brings you to the page, and there was a "candidate guide" that i found on there that explains the outline of the OSCE and lists some of the skills you could be tested on. it also provides a list of books that are useful for preparing. i purchased an e-book copy of one of them called "succeed in OSCEs and practical exams, an essential guide for nurses" which lists some examples of scenarios you might see.

Charlieplus - my advice: DO THE ONP!! starting up the new process is a huge frustration of a task, and you'll likely add on an extra 6 months to 1 year of waiting time before you can finish registering. i'm sure there are a few more ONP programs left, but you'll have to hurry as it is phasing out. although you'll get paid little to nothing, it's better to at least get your feet in the door and use your nursing skills rather than sitting around on your bum for months waiting for the NMC like the rest of us :)

they will accept some documents (if you VERY clearly explain which documents and why). ... however, it will take them at least 1-2 weeks to reply to your email and it will take around a month and a half to actually transfer them over. also, yes, it will take around 3 months or more (unless you're lucky) for them to actually look at your documents and invite you to take OSCE.

Hi cvekowalska - I think you're the first I've heard who got news from NMC regarding the OSCE... when did you submit your documents for the assessment phase? Mine were sent in nearly 2 months ago but I am still sitting here waiting... I'm curious to know when yours were submitted to get an idea of how long it actually takes. Thanks!

i went into their offices a month ago (during those hours), and it was a complete waste of time... i'm still waiting for news.

UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE
I haven't heard any news about anyone who took OSCE yet... Also haven't heard any news from NMC about my documents other than "you are waiting... we're sorry for any delay." So I've given up my fight with them because I have absolutely no control. They will make us wait "up to 90 days, and in some cases longer."

UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE
They do not give you a confirmation that they've received your documents. I've been told they need 30 to 90 "working days" which can mean well over 3 months of waiting time... After that they will send you an email to confirm that you're eligible to schedule the OSCE. My documents were submitted 1 month ago and I still haven't received any news.

In person, after waiting 2 hours in the office, NMC has clarified that once all your stuff is submitted, it will take 30 to 90 WORKING days to actually look at. They don't care if we have deadlines or lives I suggest all you others who submitted under the old process and are now waiting yet again for them to re-assess the same documents to join me and file an official complaint. We shouldn't have to wait the same amount as the other applicants since we've already played the waiting game once. How to make a complaint about us | Nursing and Midwifery Council

Confirmation email being the one by NMC authorizing they've received and verified your documents and say that you can go ahead and book the second test. If you look on page 2 of this forum you can find the link I posted for the university's site.
