Dekalb Medical Center Nurse Residency Program
During a certain window of time, an application will be available in the careers section on their website. Not sure when that is though. There should also be a link to the application on the Nurse residencies' home page. If all else fails, you can always call HR and inquire. Sorry i wasn't more help.

Emory New Grad Residency Program, Spring 2014 - updates?
Rachel1987, I was positive that I would go ahead with the plan as was set with the other institution up until about 5 minutes ago. My mom called and said one of her MD friends "knew I was choosing Emory"... so confusing, and only a few more hours to figure it all out. Will you be at EUHM in the ER too? Have you received a definite shift yet?

Emory New Grad Residency Program, Spring 2014 - updates?
I am very thankful that Mr. Darrell suggested that I just call him on Monday. I understand that this is something that is very time sensitive, but at the same time this is potentially one of the most important decisions I've ever had to make and I owe it to myself to be thorough and thoughtful in deciding! Both positions are in the ED which helps in muddying the waters for me. The other hospital pays a tad more base and I already know I'd be working nights there. Won't know until after the residency at Emory. I know i want to go back to school, so Emory would be best in that perspective. Plus, I got 3 calls from Emory yesterday...is that a sign?

Emory New Grad Residency Program, Spring 2014 - updates?
Emory called with an offer in the ER!!! Now I have a dilemma... I recently declined an offer at Houston Medical to accept at Dekalb Medical. After completing thevpre-employment screen last week, I get the offer from Emory... This is definitely the one I wanted, but I dont know what I should do in this situation. Would I be wrong to call Dekalb and decline after accepting since the job does not start until March 3rd?

Emory New Grad Residency Program, Spring 2014 - updates?
Congrats Rachel1987! I haven't heard anything back yet, but I was told that I was the very first to interview and that there were 25 others to follow. The interview was a lengthy problem-based interview with tons of "what if" and "name a time when" questions. I completed my senior preceptorship in the ER. Thats the only experience i have with the ER. Good luck in your interview!

I did not send a cover letter. If I am not mistaken (since it feels like ages ago since I applied), I only submitted the app and the questionnaire.

A few degrees yet still a lot of confusion. Any thoughts greatly appreciated
Hi MJB2010,I will be starting the second of four semesters of my BSN program this Fall. I won't be able to take the NCLEX until I graduate December 2013. I have not narrowed down a specific specialty just yet. I'm open since there are so many that I haven't had the chance to experience yet. I am currently considering critical care, emergency, or the vasc cath or GI lab. I naturally considered some form of teaching since that is what I did in my former career. I was really just interested in knowing if I even qualify to teach anything on the college level with the degrees that I have already accumulated or to see if it would be easy for my to acquire the necessary certificate/add-ons (wishful thinking?) that would permit it. You are absolutely right in your observation - I have been all over the place ). Many people in great positions did not get there by following a straight path; rather it was due to a unique background and probably being in the right place at the right time. To be honest, I really like to learn and I feel that having that knowledge from the various angles (the hard science side of things and lab skills I now have, being able to think like and understand what my instructors want because of my background as an educator, etc.) Rounds me out as a student and helps. I figure it can't hurt. I think (?) having a background in the various, although loosely, related fields will make more options available to me in the end. I understand that at some point I need to find a concentration for my studies. That's the main reason that I am contemplating a change from Education to Public Health. I think this program will equip me with knowledge more applicable to what I will be doing in the nursing field and may open up more opportunities than a PhD in Education would. I am interested in hearing yours and othrs' input before making any decisions.

Can Bachelor's degree in other area affect pay?
I, too, was a Biology major as an undergraduate. I decided to become a teacher when I wasn't sure which direction I wanted to go in the medical field (at one time, I really wanted to be a PA). I ended up certifying in middle school and high school science and teaching high school for 6 years. I got a MS in Education while I was teaching and began working on my PhD in Education last summer. I also started a BSN program this past January and have 3 semesters until graduation :w00t: I am considering changing my PhD program from one in Education to one in Public Health. I know that I will make an excellent nurse, but I also enjoy teaching. With the program in Education, I considered centering my research around nursing education; however, I believe that I would like to complete research that would be more applicable to the practice of nursing, hence the thought about changing programs. Any thoughts on this?

A few degrees yet still a lot of confusion. Any thoughts greatly appreciated
A little background first: I have a BS in Biology and a MS in Education with a specialization in Literacy and Learning. I worked 6 years as a high school Science teacher (certified middle school and highschool) , but resigned to go back to school to become a nurse. I always wanted a career in the medical field, but didn't know in what capacity. I'm glad I gave it enough time and thought and chose the right healthcare profession I am also currently working on a PhD in Education, which I started before deciding to get my BSN. I was under the impression that I would be able to teach on the college or university level (even before earning the PhD) because of the MS in Education, but have began to think otherwise from reading through the various forums. Any thoughts on this? Also, I have recently contemplated changing my PhD program from Education to Public Health because I would like to complete research in the health field as opposed to education; plus, I think it may open more doors for me as far as career choices go (would love to maybe work for the CDC). Would this be a smart move? What options exist with my previous degrees in combination with each PhD program? Thank you in advance for any thoughts!

Clayton State Nursing Program Spring 2012
Hi mom2011, The class is offered Saturday, November 19th from 9 until noon and is $55. I have not registered for it just yet. Wanted to see if any others would, but since I work full time during the week, this seems to be my best bet (unless another course is offered cheaper somewhere else, of course!).

Clayton State Nursing Program Spring 2012
Congratulations to all of those that will be starting in the Spring! Have yet to receive my official acceptance letter, but have gotten the e-mail from Ms. Hicks about the insurance and the e-mail from UHS about immunization... I interviewed and was accepted in the Fall but was unable to attend. Glad to not to have had to go through that again, although it went much better than I expected it to. Very thankful and grateful for the opportunity to join you guys in the Spring though!
