Congrats!!! That's awesome : ) I am planning on it, as long as we can get our financial stuff in order and get down there beforehand. We are planning on driving down in a few weeks to look at the school and apartments. I am so excited to see the area! Congrats again-you must be glad the wait is over, I know I am! : )

That's great-do you remember the name of the complex? I found one called Mandalay on 4th that looks really nice. I am moving down with my husband and 3 children so we will need something with 2 bedrooms but we still don't want to pay a huge rent where I won't be working. Next Thursday-that's not too long of a wait but it will seem like it, LOL! I actually found out yesterday that I'm in! I had sent in all of my application forms a while back but they couldn't review them until after class started. My composite was 132. How did you do? I can't remember-are you doing the RN or LPN? Would you mind telling me if and where you found a good price on plane tickets? We want to go down next month...thanks!!! : )

That's great! Were the people nice? I have read so many horror stories and I'm wondering how true they are. My family and I are trying to get down there in September to check it out and look for places. Have you had any luck with that part of it? I was supposed to have an interview this morning and a decision tomorrow...he actually just called me now and we are doing the interview over the phone in a few minutes! I took the NLN last year so I sent my scores already. Now I just need to wait for tomorrow! Please let me know if you have had any luck finding housing. It's hard to do online I'm finding. If we can get our house sold right away I might be starting with you in November! Take care and good luck tomorrow!

Hi Care.Bear! How did everything go? Do you like the facility and the people? I am also up north but I haven't been down to take a tour yet. Hope your PAX went well!

Galen Tampa LPN-RN program?
Wow, thanks for all this great information! I was actually reading reviews on some web site last night and I would say 98% out of the 60 were bad. They complained about one teacher in particular whom they claimed didn't have a life so she took it out on her students. Have you experienced this? I am so nervous now after reading all the reviews saying that Galen just wants your money and the teachers don't give you a chance, etc etc etc. What to do??!! Kelli

Hi Jessica! Sorry it took me so long to follow up. It's cheap to send the book, so if you still want it please let me know and I'll be happy to send it down. : ) Kelli

Hi Jessica! You can have it for free, I just need to see what shipping will be and let you know tomorrow. What I meant was I am in New Hampshire and shipping from here to there would probably be around $10 I would think. I'll let you know tomorrow. It also has the CD that you can download and do practice tests! It worked well for me. The book is a little beat up since I've had it so long, but I don't think there is any writing in it, (except for the drawing one of my girls did on the title page, LOL!). I'll let you know and you can PM me your address! :)

Hi again : ) I agree that the RN seems like the way to go. I hear that nursing school is very difficult no matter the program, so I am ready, LOL! If you want to save some money I can send you my copy of the NLN PAX-RN study guide. It's from last year but I doubt they changed anything. Just let me know if you would like it! It is around $36 new but shipping from NH to you would probably be maybe $10??? It's what I used to study for a few weeks and I got a pretty okay score, I guess. I am really looking forward to seeing the facility! Take care :)

Did they give you cost breakdowns? Is there a reason you are deciding on doing the bridge over the RN? I ask because I want to make sure I do it the best way too! : ) Did they give you any other information? Thanks!

I'm glad the information helped! He didn't mention price....my calculations show $29700 based on 108 credits. I don't need quite that many as long as I can get some of my Gen Eds to transfer, but it will still be expensive. However, the LPN program is around $20000 plus the bridge program, (if I am calculating correctly), would be $24000. That's at $240/credit. If that's true it would be cheaper and faster to do the straight RN program....

Hi guys! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner...just checked my e-mail! I believe the first class of the RN program starts in August, so you could probably just switch to that. The program is new and is 8 quarters in a row. There is a one week break between quarters. Prettyinblu, I will e-mail you the information after I type this. LynneMarie02, if you would like to message me your e-mail I will send it to you as well. :)

Hi Jessica! As you can see from my posts I do not attend yet, but I have some information. Are you planning on doing the LPN or the new RN program? I am doing the RN which takes 2 years days. I have some information they e-mailed me and if you would like to PM me your e-mail I would be glad to send it your way. It is the curriculum plan for the LPN, the bridge, and the straight RN programs. It shows what classes you take each semester. Let me know if it would help. As for the PAX, I took the PAX-RN last year. I have been out of school (I went to college previously) for 8 years, 7 at the time, and I scored 132. I am terrible at math and not great at science. I just bought the study guide and studied as much as I could for a couple to a few weeks. You'll do great. Classes are pretty much always open if you are looking far enough ahead (from what I can tell). For example, I applied for this November but my application won't be reviewed until the August class starts. So if you are looking for a start date after December, it would be February start and your application would be reviewed after the November class starts. Hope this helped! :)

Galen August 2011
I hope you all don't mind if I chime in! Congrats on your August starts, Thats great! I am looking into starting in November as my family and I will be moving down from New England. Could you tell me anything about the school? The people there, the facilities? Anything else you think might be good to know? Also if you don't mind sharing, what were your scores on the PAX? I took the PAX-RN last summer and since I probably won't find out about my acceptance until August, I'm wondering how my scores compare and how they'll impact my chances. Thanks and best of luck!

You're awesome! Thank you so much for the information! We looked into The Coves near Gandy-they look beautiful but the ratings aren't very good. Galen's facility looks incredible-very state of the art! If you happen to come up with any other info you think might help, I would be so appreciative! Thanks again! :)

Anyone from Galen College of Nursing in Tampa Area
Hi everyone! : ) I'm so glad to see some newer posts on here about Galen! I posted a thread that got zero response, so maybe you could help me? I am looking into their new RN program and hoping to start in November. I have at least three classes that should transfer in. *With that said, what are your schedules like? I have a family of 5, (a husband, 3 girls, and myself), and we are actually moving from NH so I can go there. *What are clinicals like? *How often and where are they held? *How big are your classes? *Does anyone have any advice on where or where not to rent an apartment? A very nice Galen student on this forum has answered a lot of my questions, but unfoprtunately she lives 45 minutes away from campus so she wasn't able to give me any input on housing. Your responses would be SO MUCH appreciated since I live so far away...I am relying on you Floridians for advice and I definitely trust it!!! :) Thank you!

Galen Tampa LPN-RN program?
Hello! Yes I received an e-mail a couple weeks ago that they now offer the RN by itself. I'm glad to hear you like the program. I haven't visited the school, in fact I've never been to Florida, LOL! I am looking forward to it though. So tired of long cold winters! How do you like living in FL? I am on a web site called City-Data and some people seem to hate living there. Also, could you tell me what precepting means? I've heard it a lot on this forum, but I'm not sure what it is. How are the job prospects down there? Good luck with your last qtr!

Galen
Thanks for responding! :) Congrats on your upcoming adventure! Do you think you will stick with the LPN or do the bridge? They seem like a great school in that most posts I have read people say that while yes it is challenging, the area hospitals respect Galen students which I think says a lot. Do you know of any nice apartments in the area? I am thinking within a 10 minute drive and very family friendly. I am having a hard time finding anything online because a place one person says is great another person says is terrible. Good luck in August and thanks again! :)

Galen Tampa LPN-RN program?
Thank you so much for responding!!! They now offer a straight RN program and I will be doing that. I have some pre-reqs such as Composition, Intro. to Psych., and Intro. to Lit. I will need to do everything else. I have a family of 5 and I would not be working. My husband doesn't work as he has a genetic eye disease that has recently prevented him from doing so, which means I will have a ton of support. Are the teachers approachable? From reading other posts I know it is a tough program, but this must mean students are well prepared? How often are clinicals? And one more thing-do you have any good recommendations on apartments in the area that are really family friendly? I would like to be within 10 minutes of school. Thanks in advance! I hope once we get down there I will make friends quickly with fellow students as we will know no one! LOL! (Did you find it easy to connect with other students?) Sorry for the novel! :) Kelli

Galen Tampa LPN-RN program?
Hi everyone : ) I'm hoping this thread is still being read since I am not having much luck with the thread I started about Galen... Anyone who is going or has attended, can you give me any information on the Tampa campus? I would be moving from NH which my family and I are completely ready to do, but do you LOVE the program? Was it worth jumping into and not waiting for a typical community college program? What was your first quarter like as far as class schedule? Thank you : )

Galen
Hey everyone! :) So I was wondering if anyone has attended Galen in Tampa Bay? I am very seriously considering going there and it would mean moving from NH. If you have attended, could you give me as much information as possible, i.e. do/did you like it? How was your schedule? Where did you do clinicals? What was your clinical schedule? and anything else that you think I might like to know? Thank you SO much, you will be helping me a great deal!
