  1. I've been a nurse around 9 yrs. Been on orientation in an HD clinic since the beginning of May. My preceptor is pushing me to be handling 4 pts in the am with changeover and 4 pts in the afternoon as well. How long should it take me to feel comfortable with this?
  2. Here is my issue. I work in an LTACH. In the last 6 months the pt care has decreased. Pt census has decreased. Staff moral has decreased. Pt tube dislodgements and falls have increased. Hourly rounding and quality 2 hour turns aren't getting done consistently. I have spoken multiple times to the CNO. All that results is more charting for the floor nurses. It is horrible. What can I do to affect positive change in this establishment? The CEO is an interim CEO who is friends with the CNO. I feel the CNO is the source of the problems. It is a national corporation. Should I write a letter to the CEO of the company? I don't want to get myself labeled or blackballed within the company. What can I do?
  3. I interviewed for an RN position in a 12 chair clinic. Loved it and I want the job. It's mostly chronic pts. I have ICU and Med/Surg, House Supervisor experience. So with the right training I think I could learn to do it well. My question is this: What is the most difficult and most rewarding aspects of chronic Dialysis nursing?
  4. How much training do they usually give? Time management and being busy is not a problem for me. I am used to 12 hrs shifts with maybe 1 break, and no lunch.
  5. I too work in an LTACH. We generally have 6 pts. In the ICU we have 2 or 3.
  6. Hello, I am considering a position as a dialysis nurse with a Fresenius clinic near my home. Has anyone here worked for them? How has your experience been? Is it a company you would recommend to other nurses? Any comments are much appreciated. Thank you.
  7. Ihave been a nurse for 9 years, worked LTC, Med/surg, ICU, and most recently LTACH. An opportunity has opened up so that I may get to work for Fresinius as a dialysis nurse. I could finally get off night shift. Can any of you give me advise/ information about dialysis nursing or Fresenius? Thank you in advance.
  8. So, I work in a facility with a pt who has C-Diff. The facility has this pt in a room with a pt who does not have C-Diff. Is this worthy of a report to the state? Are we neglecting the C-Diff negative pt by putting him/her at risk for C-Diff?
  9. In what capacity did you work for the? How long & where? I work in a acute care not for profit hospital - even in a not for profit organization it still comes down to $. Where I work I have anywhere from 6-8 pts ranging from 28 days to 102yrs old on med/surg. At select I'll be getting 1.5 times what I make currently. Is it possible you are wrong about them?
  10. Neither one. There's one in Springfield that I was referring to. Looks like a nice place. The biggest worry I have is the paper charting.
  11. I have the opportunity to work at an LTAC hospital called Select Specialty. Has anyone ever worked there? Or any LTAC for that matter? Would you recommend it? I also have the possibility of transferring to a new department at my current place of work. I have been there for four years. Trying to decide if I should stay loyal to my current employer or just go work for the highest payer? Any advise is appreciated.
  12. no. I will just dozmy job and let the new dumb charge nurse hang herself. Other peoe get paid lots of money to make those decisions. If I made a decision that was better someone would have to go. And who do you think that would be?
  13. Ok, I have worked on the Med/Surg floor for 4 years. One of our charge nurses recently quit and the Manager gave the position to a nurse with only 6 months experience on our floor. I didn't want the position, but feel angry that I wasn't even asked. Has anyone been in a situation like this and how did you deal with it. My boss assures me I'm doing a good job, but always passes me over when there is a promotion to be given. Very frustrating!
