  1. @DLS62 Thank you very much. Sometimes it is discouraging when I study and can't remember what I learned a month back. I keep telling myself that I'm not the only one. I sure want to do this. and I am hoping that I succeed.
  2. @ pookyp, The hospital cut my pay by $5.00/hr, and all the LPNs that became techs took major paycuts as well. Some of them older than me went back to school with a lot of ill feelings toward the hospital. They were promised their position back as a nurse on the floor, replacing themselves as the RN, but that was revoked as well. I went back to school to obtain my RN, but I am 50 years old with 30 years experience ass an LPN. I am so sad, aggrevated and felt lied to as new management took over. I don't know that I would be an RN here, but would look forward to another position somewhere else.
  3. I have been taken off the floor at the hospital I worked at as an LPN for twenty years. The "acute care" settings have slowly dwindled their use of the LPN down. Drastic? Yes. Do RNs like that? Yes & No. Yes because the RN doesn't have to deal with large teams, and no because as they have 5-6 patients on their own with one tech for the floor wishing for the LPN to be resurrected again since we do know what were doing and can help. (Long sentence, right?) I went back to school at this "older" age because of wanting to become an RN and stay in acute care. At 50, and 30 years as an LPN, I feel so let down. I'm a unit clerk now, trying to go to school but really angry about it. Does that make sense?
  4. @Sherriblu, YEAH!!! Thank you!
  5. @glantman, click on your profile pic, it's that question mark above the word "bronze". You can pick out a picture. Or, you can upload a picture from your computer. I think Excelsior is a very hard on-line school. I can only do my best. I support everyone going back to school, but I feel like I'm looked at as a person whose already almost retired. I'm worried that with all my experience, going back to school, and hopefully graduate (LOL) that no one will want to hire me.
  6. @dragonpurr, I am so glad for all the support I have received, and you are right, age is nothing but a number. I think the focus is on how we feel inside. I don't feel 50. But, an employer may look at 50 and say, she's close to retirement. Well, I feel young inside and plan to work as long as I can. I am hoping my mind lets me get through school!
  7. @mauitocali, You are phenomenal! Good Luck! I'll keep plugging away....
  8. @geperry, I know how you feel. I used to be on the dean's list at a community college, now C's make me happy. I get discouraged. However, healthcare is extremely hard, but rewarding! You go girl!
  9. Congratulations! I am so happy for you! Thanks for the encouragement:nurse:
  10. Sometimes I feel older than dead!
  11. I'm really grateful for all the support and humor! At least it helps when everyone is so encouraging. Keep it coming people!!
  12. I am in Excelsior on-line. I took transitions and passed, then quit. I re-enrolled and now have to take A & P. I like on-line since I work 3-11 and sometimes get home very late. I couldn't believe the amount of work for a pre-req class! I will get through this tho...
  13. I guess POSITIVITY is the key word. I need to keep my eye on the reward, you're right.
  14. So I decided to go back to RN school on-line. I work full-time at an area hospital, unfortunately, the LPNs have been phased out of acute care settings. I have been an LPN for 30 years. (I started young ) I am finding it difficult to retain an enormous amount of work for one exam. Anyone out there have any advice? I would be very grateful! Thank you!
  15. I started studying for a&p last october! Way too much to know. I finally stopped and started looking for other resources to use besides the book. Hopefully, I get bck to studying soon. Good Luck! Wish me luck too!
