I am a new nurse and I was fortunate enough to do my entire last semester of clinicals in BUMC ER while also working at Parkland as a nursing student II. I also was offered an internship in both ER's and I chose BUMC hands down. While Parkland does pay more starting out, BUMC's benefits and night shift differentials are better. Now I did not work I'm the ER at Parkland but from being on the unit I can tell you they are very by the book, protocol protocol protocol!!! While that can be beneficial at times I found situations where things weren't being done fast enough when the patients status changed because no one wanted to bother the physicians or listen to their gut instinct over convenience. I chose BUMC over Parkland because I worked hard to get my lisence and I would like to keep it. I feel there are situations that you are put In at Parkland that threaten your lisence. Also Parkland ER does not have a set nurse to patient ratio. I have heard Methodist ER is good to work in. Hope this helps.
