Accepted to Shawsheen Valley LPN
@ kristinafaith Buy the NLN pre entrance exam book and make sure you study off of it to prepare for your exam. There are 3 exam schedules check the site for official dates. You will have to choose 1 to attend and be on time. It is a 4 hour long exam. Make sure you study and get plenty of rest before your exam and just try your best. You will get a letter stating your scores, and you might not understand how to read it, but the school will send you a letter if your scores are met to be a potential student for the LPN program. If you make it past the pre-entrance exam and qualify for the second phase, you will take another short math test, a reading and comprehension test, write an essay, and complete an interview on site. If you fit the school's criteria, they will officially notify you for acceptance into the program. To get more information about the program, I suggest you visit the school's site or make an appointment to go in and ask any questions you may have. Just be honest and your reason for going into nursing is good. There's nothing wrong with your motivation. There isn't a "right" answer to help your chances when it comes to your motivation or reason to want to be a nurse, but as I've stated above, studying for the exam definetly will help your scores. Remember, everybody has their own reasons and motivations to become a nurse. Just be yourself and take it as it comes. You might just surprise yourself in the end. :) Good luck!

How to hold back my crazy hair!
Your hair is very pretty both curls and color. Mine is also thick but wavy. What i find that works, believe it or not, is any small claw clip and for loose ones, like long bangs, I'd use booby pins. What I do is put my hair in a french twist. I would need only one clip! Because the hair is twisted in, you can clip the outside part of the twist to a section of your hair next to the twist(where the twist line is) It pretty much seals it together. I went to my CPR class doing lots of compressions and it didn't even budge. Good luck. I hope this helps. :)

NLN LPN Pre-Entrance Exam
I suggest you get the NLN LPN pre-entrance exam book and study off of it. Mine came with a disk for practice testing and solutions. It's very helpful. It'll be about a 4hr test, don't concentrate too long on things you don't know cause you'll just waste it trying to figure it out and time will run out fast. Take a guess and move on. A guess is better than a blank answer. Good luck!

22 yr old guy, might be a Lvn.
Most of my classmates are female, and I've noticed only one male in my class so far. I don't think there would be a problem with few males in the class. We're all there to learn.

New nurse on the block (aka: STUPID) .....
My opinion is let them talk. They can talk till their lips fall off or their head spins like the exorcist. You're still learning, don't be so hard on yourself. Just do what you gotta do, take notes if you have to, and learn from them. You shouldn't feel ashamed or embarassed to ask. Let me tell you what our coordinator said to us that I hope helps make you feel better. She said something along the lines of,"Nursing is a lifetime of leaning. You don't just stop learning because you graduated. I learn something new everyday and I still ask questions. So, if someone makes you feel dumb for asking a question, just ignore it and remember that they were all once in your shoes and just beginning. The important thing is you do your job well, take good care of your patients, and do the right thing and learn. Keep on learning so you can become better. Everybody makes mistakes, but what's important is that you learn from them and continue to grow." She's been and RN for almost 30 years now. Also, you've made this far. You've graduated, so you're not dumb. You're clearly capable. I hope that after all your hard work you don't let others get in the way of your goals. Don't just show them you can be a good nurse, but prove to yourself you are a good nurse!

Accepted to Shawsheen Valley LPN
Congrats!!!!! It's def. a great accomplishment to be accepted into their program cause you have to not only take their 4 hr entrance exam, but also pretty much battle it out with your scores and interview among the other participants. There aren't that many seats and you got in! I heard it's a tough 10 months, but I'm sure you'll do well if you work really hard. :) How was your interview process? What areas did they focus on in the math and english test?

What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?
My personal story started out after getting home from working an 11pm-7am shift. After changing for bed, I continued to make my way to my tall windows and shut the blinds and fell into my bed. My eye lids were heavy and burning from being overly tired, but no matter what I did, I couldn't sleep. I constantly tossed and turned only to find myself still tired, but couldn't fall asleep. It was so out of the ordinary as normally I wouldn't have such a hard time sleeping. So, my day went on and I gave up trying to sleep and did chores and ran erands. It was my night off so skipping my morning sleep and sleeping normal hours of the night was fine. Well, I couldn't sleep that night either, and gave up when it turned 5:30 the next morning. I decided I'd head to my parent's house in a few hours and do some laundry there. After breakfast and getting all my laundry together, I headed over to my parent's house with my bf and arrived at my parent's house about 8:45am. When we rang the door bell, my dad answered the door and told us my grandmother had passed away early that morning. I didn't believe it. I went to her room and she wasn't there. I cried my eyes out all morning, afternoon, and night. Instead of doing laundry that day, I helped run erands and help with funeral arrangements. I got home and in bed that night about 8:30. I was extremely tired, sad, upset, etc. While I was deep asleep, I felt a sharp finger nail scratch from the heel to toe of my left foot. It was such a strong scratch that it woke me from my sleep. I couldn't explain it other than my bf being an inconsiderate jerk by playing a really mean joke on me. I called out his name and he walked out of our bathroom, which is in our room and to the right of the bed with a big space in between the bed and walls, and I asked him what the heck was wrong with him to do that and that I was so tired and finally fell asleep and that he was being a total jerk for playing around like that. He says he didn't know what I was talking about and had been in the bathroom. I didn't really think he did it either because if he was hiding under the bed and crawled his way to the bathroom doing that joke, I would've seen him. I was just looking for a logical explanation and decided, well...maybe the cat did it, but he said the cat was with him the whole time. We looked at each other a little strangely, but I was too tired to argue and he was just so creeped out to even talk about it anymore. I went back to sleep and decided to discuss it another time. The next day, I called my dad up and mentioned this to him and he says it was probably my grandmother's way of saying goodbye one last time before she left......
