Hospital registry and Covid
If you work as a school nurse and also registry on a Covid floor, are you considered a contact? According to IDPH, a contact is anyone <6 ft for more than 15 minutes of a suspected or positive covid individual, with or without a mask or PPE. Does this apply to HCP or only general public. I have been fit tested for N95, trained on donning and doffing, am not exposed to aerosolized procedures. I haven't been able to find anything about this from IDPH or CDC. School nursing is my love and I want to do what is best for students and staff. Not sure whether I want to stay at the hospital working with Covid. Does anyone have any advice?

Dilemma in LTC
Last time I posted, I was about to enroll in nursing school. Today, I'm proud to say, I'm an LPN and I am employed! I have been working in a LTC facility for 8 months, my first job out of school. I am the only nurse on the floor for 38 residents. The workload is very heavy. I have fall risks, elopement risks and never have time to take a break or lunch. I have 3 CNA's but sometimes only 2. I was sick one day and had to come in to work because there was no one to cover. Side note: I am in the process of entering the RN program and only work part time. I have a friend who has offered me a job, also in LTC, but where there is more support on the floor and a better work environment (according to her at least). I would like to stay at the current job so I can have some time under my belt. I don't want to job hop but the environment is unhealthy. Do I risk losing the time I earned at one facility to enter the unknown at another? Do I suck it up, stick it out and hope I can get through it? Thanks for your input!

Telling your boss you're going to nursing school....
I work in a LTC facility where they offer tuition reimbursement and encourage education (so I thought). I approached my boss with a written request to adjust my schedule by only a few hours a week so that I could get a prerequisite out of the way. I attached my school schedule to the request and did this 2 months in advance. I was told "while I think it's great that you want to pursue a nursing degree, we just cannot accommodate your schedule." She handed me the request and schedule, as she pulled the rug out from under me. I must have had my mouth open because I was absolutely stunned! The worst part is that many other employees had been able to go to school and I was clearly being treated differently. I agree with the comment that bosses hate it when employees want to better themselves. I also think women bosses can maybe feel threatened or jealous of more attractive, more liked women........ (discuss). Bottom line......I wouldn't want to work for a company that discourages someone from getting an education to better themselves. I'm signing up to start school in a few months and am really excited!! Life is too short and precious to work in an unhealthy, unsupported environment. Good luck to you! :)
