  1. Hi all, I have been a med-surg nurse for two years now. I feel comfortable on the med-surg floor (though it does get very crazy at times). I am interested in an OR position where they are willing to train. What difficulties did you guys face when you transitioned to the OR? I am very nervous about making such a change as med-surg and OR are different animals. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)
  2. :lol2:I once woke my sister up and asked her why she did not call me when my patient was having a seizure.
  3. You have a nightmare that the foley which was supposed to be removed from the patient yesterday is still in.
  4. Hey mooremds, You took the words right out of my mouth. I was about to post the same question as you. I have also been going through the same problems as you. I started working nights in March and things have not been going well. I have also lost weight and in a very unhealthy way. I pretty much go to sleep only at 4 in the morning and food habits have been terrible. My family is very unhappy with it and this has created a lot of friction. Not to mention I'm also a full time student in the BSN program. I ask myself if my career is destroying my personal life and I sometimes wonder if I have lost myself. Its a little consolation that I'm not the only one with these problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope I haven't hijacked your thread. isthatso?
  5. Wow congratulations.:clpty:I remember my own experience with being accepted into the nursing program. I had failed the nurse entrance test by 2 points. I was having serious doubts if I wanted to become a nurse. Luckily, they gave me another chance after seeing my GPA. Its a great feeling to be accepted into the program. Enjoy it;) Good luck.
  6. Hi Jewl. I am also a new RN and so I feel your pain. One day I feel confident and the next day I stand humbled. Everybody tells me that I will get better with time. Like you, every imperfection gets to me.There are some days when I just want to break down and cry. I always ask for help from my co-workers. The work culture in my hospital is very good. They help me a lot and give great suggestions. Maybe asking help from one of your co-workers or the charge nurse will help. This works for me and maybe it will work for you too.
  7. I love working nights. I am not a morning person and I used to feel miserable when I had to wake up at 0530 in the morning. Now, I feel very comfortable about waking up in the evening to go to work. Plus, it is easy to adjust your sleep-wake cycles in two weeks.
  8. Thank you :). And no, it is not homework. It was a real life scenario that I came across. I was thinking to myself "what could've possible gone wrong?"
  9. Hello, I am a new nurse. Here's my question: what role does surgery have in bringing about renal failure? Say a pt had a surgery and he/she was receiving adequate fluids and nutrition. The labs are also being closely monitored. How does renal failure develop in such cases?
