  1. I got you...My letters were no big deal and I had heard the wait was so long at MCC I wasn't sure I would get in...I actually took the test more to prepare for Muhlenburgs, lol. I am in section 07 as I wanted a later start on 1 day so I could work in the evening if needed and still get some sleep...I still have Micro. to take in the Fall, Mon. & Weds. night. Then I would still need the computer course, nutrition and a health or phys.ed...Who was your Micro. prof. and did you like them?Debating on taking Golf for 7 wks. to get the Phys.ed out of the way, lol! Well, good luck to both of us,should be an interesting semester!
  2. Fall it is...Are you taking any other classes in the Fall besides 121 and which section are you signed up for? What was your deciding factor for MCC, as I am curious also?
  3. Yes...MCC...Was able to get the full amount of a Pell Grant if I have 12 credits which was the deciding factor...It doesn't cover everything but 1/2 the tuition for Fall & Spring is better than nothing...Because Muhlenburg is a private school it doesn't really qualify for any gov. grants.Muhlenburg's financial package was a $500 grant each semester,+ loans. So for me the financial difference with the grant from MCC made more sense as it brought my out of pocket cost down further when compared to Muhlenburgs overall out of county costs.Still not sure I made the right decission as MCC leaves no room for error. What was your final choice and when do you start?
  4. I really have not heard great things about lincoln tech other than how many people are sorry they wasted so much money there...Question...why not use the money to become an RN instead with an associates...? If that is truly the price, that would about cover the tuitions for RN programs at community colleges or Muhlenburg...
  5. No...an A- is not a bad grade at all...Although most of the professors I know will usually give you the A if you are borderline and deserve it. I suspect that even though your teacher gave you the attendance on the days you were late, it may have aggravated them enough that you did not respect the rules of the class and that is where your A- came into play. I just spoke with a friend of mine that is a tenured Prof. and that is what he told me. He told me if 2 students had the exact same grades as borderline, and 1 student applied themselves more, repected the class, was on time etc. he would bump that student to a full A but did not feel the other student deserved the same consideration.... I question your approach to your grades because you are at a community college. Some of us are at community colleges because that is all we can afford at the time and desire an education more than anything! Others use it as a stepping stone to get and keep their grades up so thay may be accepted into competitive 4 year Universities...I feel that you are putting community colleges down and take offense to that. I also feel that your lackadaisical outlook of winging an A &P test because it was only a community college course will not get you very far in the real world, especially in the world of nursing... If you are only able to land a job in a less prestigious hospital if your lucky enough to get through your 4 years, are you also only going to do half baked nursing? Because after all it is only a lower rated hospital...Nursing is a profession that demands and deserves 100% commitment no matter what the circumstances may be. By approaching your education not striving to do your best because you feel the school not worthy of that is not a good way to start... Good luck to you...I think your going to need it.
  6. @WorkingClassDog...lol You basically told me what I already knew...*********are not teaching A &P 2 unfortunately...And because of our Fall nursing courses we do not have a lot of options...Looks like we will get an adjunct again for the evening class. I was in touch with Prof. ******* about the Fall semesters A & P 2 professors as she helped give me some guidance with A & P 1. I was debating on doing Micro instead for Fall but she advised me they are switching the A & P books again for Spring...MCC has some racket going... I also heard about ********...Will check into **** but read good things about that professor also...I was going to take A & P as a summer course but opted out because of the teachers.Almost took Micro and we probably would have met, but decided to do the online PSY Lifespan instead...Oh well
  7. @ Nancy...WorkingClassDog is right. A waiting list is nothing to be ashamed of as I too know quite a few fellow students who have not gotten that far...It's hard and you should be proud of yourself! I also know you feel a little discouraged because you want it now, but everything will work out for you... @ WorkingClassDog...i still need A&P 2 as well as micro...I know Bogner is great but not available for A&P 2...Who did you take for those 2 classes?
  8. CeCe...Call Muhlenberg and talk to the people there, or email or call Cheryl McCoy who is the Director of Admissions, this is her email address: McCoy, Cheryl [[email protected]] One thing I will say about Muhlenberg is everyone there is very friendly and helpful. I believe they only allow 32 transfer credits for the Nursing program. I also believe most of your pre-reqs for the Nursing program should transfer, mine did...What they mean as far as having to take courses at UCC is that once you get accepted to their program, any remaining courses you have to take must me taken at UCC. You do not have to take courses there first,In fact you can apply to Muhlenbergs program without ever having taken anything. Upon acceptance you will be required to register with UCC as that will be the college that gives you your degree.I currently am a student at MCC, I applied to both programs and got accepted to both. Now I am trying to decide where I will attend. But I have not taken any courses yet at UCC.If I chose to go there I will have to finish my Chem. and A&P 2 with them.... Hope this helps. Shoot them an email or call Muhlenberg, someone will explain things better...
  9. P.S. You may want to look at the last couple of weeks post on the discussion board of " Applying to Mountainside school of Nursing...." we have talked a little about Muhlenberg there...
  10. Hey Guys...take a deep breath! It's not over till it's over and you are making yourself crazy. And if you don't get in this Fall, it is still not over!!! You just keep trying and you WILL GET ACCEPTED!!! @ WorkingClassDog....today I am leaning towards MCC...Not sure Muhlenberg is worth the additional $14000 plus extra classes for a 2 yr. degree. A very wise person told me yesterday, yes they have a better schedule for me to work BUT...I will need to work those extra days to pay the difference in tuition....lol Thanks for posting the NCLEX pass rates...I searched & searched and kept coming up blank...Also...we may be close in age but I still bet i have a few yrs. on you...I'm a late bloomer, lol. Passed the 1/2 century mark not to long ago...God Help Me....LOL So see guys...It could be worse...You could be me, just starting out!
  11. They are 2 different applications...You may want to do a little more research on your choice of Trinitas...I have heard to many mixed reviews about their program and not all positive. If you are also looking for a 2 yr. RN program in this area you may also want to look at Middlesex County College. As for prerequisites, keep in mind you want to get as many out of the way as you can before you start the program. To start your nursing clinicals and also try to keep a full course load with heavy classes will be a nightmare. Most nursing programs require your Eng. 1 & 2, A & P 1 &2, Psy. 1 ( the difference for PSY 2 is in the college. ex:MCC wants Lifespan,Muhlenburg wants Child Psy...) most colleges want SOC 1 etc....Muhlenberg wants Chem.105, MCC doesnt require Gen. Chem... My best advice would be to look at all the schools you may apply to and compare their required pre-reqs. Than take the ones 1st. that they all may require. This way you are not taking courses you may not need depending on where you go. Also, if you think somewhere down the line you may want to get your BSN, then also pull a couple 4 yr. colleges, look at their degree requirements and pull your electives with that in mind... Hope this helps...
  12. Nothing from nothing...anyone know whats up with the clock on this website? It is 1pm N.J. time and it lists my posts 4 hrs. later....
  13. @ Mandi I am so sorry you did not get in this time, but keep the faith as this is just a minor setback. Have you applied to any other schools? @ WorkingClassDog...I agree somewhat with what your saying as for the commute and Raritan Bay.But MCC also does Clinicals at Robert Wood, JFK, Perth Amboy & Old Bridge...not sure if you knew that. The thing that MCC has in it's favor as for clinicals is that they are working with some MAGNATE designated hospitals, which JFK is not...But it all boils down to how good your instructers are and how well you do.Not sure if the fact that JFK is affiliated with the program will ultimately make a difference on job prospects, but it couldn't hurt...I know that MCC has a 97.44% NCLEX pass rate as of 2010...Have been unable to find current stats. for Muhlenberg. They were listed in 2007 at 90.67. As for Muhlenberg, which lecture time are you currently signed up with Nurm119...I am enrolled in the Weds. evening..5-8pm I believe with Thurs. 2-3pm clinicals. You just need to look for someone old enough to be your mom,lol...
  14. @ WorkingClassDog... I have a question for you...If all things were created equal, and MCC offered the same hours for our Nursing courses as Muhlenbergs does, as well as lets say the overall price of the program...Which school would you go to? And why? I'm picking your brain as I am still on the fence...
  15. @ Nancy...It is not that the schools make it so difficult for the students, it is just that the competition for the available spots are so steep...The Nursing programs need to keep their pass/fail rates, as well as drop out rates low to keep their funding rates high. I was taking science courses at MCC with students that unemployment was paying for that told me they would be happy passing with a C...WTH? I actually requested another lab partner because of this.It has taken me a long time to get to this point and I am holding a 4.0 GPA. I was not going to continue a course with someone who was not as dedicated to doing well as myself. To me, if you give it your all and only get a C, well at least you tried...But to only strive for a C to begin with shows you really arn't to motivated to get into a Nursing program as most schools weigh your science grades the highest. At least MCC does. Yes, we have a high Nursing shortage, but the schools are looking overall for students they are confident are dedicated enough to make it through the program.Nursing over the past years has become a occupation that people feel that can get in a short amount of time and be guaranteed a job when they graduate because of the shortage we all read about. I don't think a lot of people take into account exactly what the program entails. I heard MCC had close to 1,000 applications for 100 spots and that their wait list was close to 2 yrs. for some reason.I was happy to get through my first time applying, and the TEAS was a royal pain as they included the science portion. Muhlenburgs test did not include science portion( which it will in the Spring) but it had a critical thinking portion which also was a pain... From the sound of your posts, I think you will be fine...Exhale a little. You just need to be patient, as patience will be a virtue once you become a nurse, lol.
