UNC MSN Fall 2015
I just called the college of nursing at UNC and they stated that PhD and DNP students had been notified already. Master's level applicants will receive notification via email and snail mail "by May 1st".

UNC MSN Fall 2015
Yeah, I was just reading another thread and three different people had heard that we wouldn't receive decisions until May. I guess we're not Merit scholars or we would already know. :) It is a long time to wait for such future altering news! I guess I can postpone stalking my mailman until May. Hang in there! Only one more month...hopefully :)

South Alabama student in NC....clinicals a problem?!
Hi, I'm looking into USA as well. Did you every find out about the clinicals?? Thanks or any help you can offer!

University of South Alabama MSN program Fall 2013
Hi Piper222, Are you in clinicals now? Have you had to go ahead and cut back on work hours? I'm considering applying for an NP with USA but will need to work (preferably full time) during the program and wanted to see how possible that is. Also, I'm in NC too. So I'm guessing the NC BON accepts this USA and will let you sit for the board exam after graduation? I hope clinicals are going well! Thanks for any info you can offer, Josh

University of South Alabama, MSN Emergency NP Dual Role, Spring 2012 start
Those of you who are currently in the program, could you tell me a ballpark of how many hours you study per week? I imagine it varies depending on exams/projects, but if you could give me an estimate, that'd be great. I'm hoping to still work some while in the program and wanted to see how reasonable that is. Thanks for any info you can offer!

Rex and WakeMed
Thanks Jhatchicu! I actually accepted a New Grad position in the WakeMed adult ED. Everyone I've spoken with that works at Wake really likes it. I'll start on February 25th as long as I pass the boards next Thursday. I'm trying to study as much as possible while maintaining my sanity. What unit do you work in at Wake?

Anyone apply to Rex UNC 2013 new grad?
Thanks for update. That's a bummer, heard such good things about Rex!

Anyone apply to Rex UNC 2013 new grad?
Hi, I had an interview with the ED, but have not heard anything. Someone from another area hospital mentioned that Rex may be on a hiring freeze. Not sure if that information is accurate, but it seems a little odd if no applicants have heard about a possible position this close to the program start date.

Rex and WakeMed
Thanks for the info and the kudos! I feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to start my nursing career at either of these facilities. I'm leaning towards the WakeMed position because the hospital seems to line up a little more with my vision for healthcare and I think I'll have more opportunities to become a better nurse working there. Regardless I still need to pass those boards to be employed anywhere! I probably need to spend a little more time prepping for that.

Rex and WakeMed
I've recently been offered a position in the WakeMed ED as a new grad fellow and it looks like I will also get an offer from Rex for their new grad program. I'm hoping to work in the Emergency Department at either facility. Both hospitals seem to be great places to work! From what I understand, the WakeMed ED will be a little crazier as a level 1 Trauma center and have a lot more uninsured/homeless/medicaid/medicare patients. People have told me that Rex has more private pay patients. I'm bilingual in Spanish/English, so my skills look like they would be better suited for Wake. Overall it seems like Rex may be a more pleasant work environment, but I would learn/develop as a nurse more at WakeMed. Is the info I'm receiving correct? If anyone out there works at these hospitals, I'd be very grateful to hear your experience and any advice you want to offer. Thanks so much!

Has anyone got a RN job in Raleigh area from out of state?
I received an offer from WakeMed and am waiting to hear back from Rex. In both circumstances I received help from friends who knew people in the hospital. Seems very much like it is all about who you know. Congrats on getting an interview! Let us know how everything works out. If you really want to be in Raleigh, it might be worth moving down and taking a temp/travel job if they're easy to obtain - I have no idea on that one.

Interview at Duke
Hi there, I'm not able to locate any Clinical Nurse I positions. Can you tell me how you're finding the positions? I'm putting "clinical nurse 1" in the keyword section under the jobs tab, but am coming up empty. I don't graduate until December, but would like to have this figured out beforehand. Thanks for any help you can offer!

FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!
Thanks for the support! It will be a challenging year, but I'm grateful for the opportunity. I'll try to enjoy the slower pace of life for the next two and a half months. Good luck in your future applications, whether at FSU or elsewhere!

FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!
Yes, I received the letter last night at 5:35 pm after checking my mail box 5 million times. My wife stalked the mail man and I'm sure he thought we were both nuts. I don't know my exact gpa's, but they were around 3.75 for both overall and pre-req. I have a master's as well, but according to one of the advisors, they only looked at gpa and weighted it something like 60% science (or prereq) gpa and 40% overall gpa. There was no review of our resume's, backgrounds, or anything. A pretty poor way to go about it if you ask me.

FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!
When you say "test grades" are you referring to classroom tests or clinical tests? So did these students withdrawal from the program or did just fail? Any tips for getting through the summer portion?

FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!
Hi DLuxe, so how was the summer portion of the program? I've heard that's the most intense part. Are you surviving?

FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!
Thanks for posting. That's great they bumped it up to 34. And my heart rate is now 1,000 bpm. :)

FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!
One other thing I was told is that the 24 number for students accepted is not set in stone. Apparently there were more students than normal accepted into the traditional program, so the admissions committee/Dean are worried about clinical placements. So, it could be 24 or it could be more depending on how comfortable they feel with finding a placement for everyone.

FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!
Quick update. Of the 177 applicants, only 79 met the minimum requirements. The admissions committee will be meeting on September 30th. Calyn didn't know if that would be the final meeting or when the letters would go out. I like 79 a lot more than 177!!

FSU Accelerated Spring 2012 hopefuls!
Wow. The news on here just keeps getting better! I expect the next post to say, "I just spoke with an advisor and there is actually not even going to be a 2012 absn program at FSU." :) Like most of you I have applied and was banking on getting in. Coming up with that plan B now looks to require a little more of my attention. I did email Calyn to get specifics about the 177 number. As someone posted earlier, that could be the total number of applications, but not the total number of people that meet the minimal requirements. We shall see... Grace and peace to all those who are waiting!!!

FSU Accelerated BSN Spring 2010
This guy had a 1 year old boy and his wife had twin girls while in the program. :) He worked 20 hours a week (which they strongly recommend NOT doing), and he didn't really have any free time. It seems like you'll have a few hours each night if you don't work, but it's hard to tell. I know I spend all day trying to understand patho, so I'm not sure how quickly I'll be able to grasp the material. He did say that patho is the hardest course, and the fact that we're taking it in 8 weeks just exacerbates that! So if we can survive this, it would be a good sign for the absn.
-
FSU Accelerated BSN Spring 2010
I'm also in patho through Butler but have Mitch Taylor as my professor. Like you mentioned, the 8 week format is not ideal. I feel like I will not remember anything in a few months. I had dinner with a guy who was in the program back in 2010 and said that there is a lot of review and overlap of the material during the absn - so you get to be exposed to it multiple times. Good luck on finishing up patho! I hope we all get in!! :)

FSU Accelerated BSN Spring 2010
Thanks to everyone who has posted info about the ABSN program! I plan to apply for 2012 and am starting Patho shortly at Butler as it sounds like many of you are. Best of luck to everyone!
