  1. At douglas you can be accepted either as a high school graduate or as someone who has university credits. I applied with my university transfer courses a & p, eng, psych, phil with no volunteer hours. I did not get accepted. Douglas gives you points on what you have accomplished. The higher amount of points the more likely you are to be accepted. You can be accepted into Douglas with or without anatomy and phys. but you will have to do those while you are in the program. You can also do them before you get accepted. If you do not get in you have to keep applying each year. They keep a waitlist but its only for the upcoming term. Do your courses in the program while doing nursing, dont get in, pay application fee over and over. VCC you have to complete the 3 core courses plus 30 volunteer hours. If you apply and meet the requirements you will be waitlisted. You are accepted and don't have to keep applying to get in each year. You can do your courses anywhere you choose. All you have to do is fill out a form that takes 30 secs to transfer in your courses to vcc. Pay for your courses anywhere you choose, pay application fee once if you meet all the requirements, on waitlist. All nursing grads in BC will have to write the same nursing exam. douglas is a 4 year program with summer breaks etc. VCC is 36 months straight with one week breaks between terms and one reading break in each term
  2. Well thank you! I am attending Vancouver community college in September. I feel like I have looked at how to get IN the programs but forgot to ask what the actual program will be like. I know that it is an intense program. I am really excited to begin this journey. I am just worried about course loads, I am an older student as well and I am not sure if I can keep my job during school.
  3. Hello! I plan on going to VCC (Vancouver community college) this Fall 2011. I just wanted to know if any current students would have any helpful information about what to expect? How large are the classes? How is everyone grouped? Do you stay in class formation or do you get put into groups? How much studying is necessary per week or day etc? Is a car necessary in your first year? Is it helpful to have a car? Any additional expenses on top of tuition, books, uniforms etc? How many papers are required per a term approx? (I can write but it's not my favorite) Which term was/is the hardest so far? Overall how is your experience in the program so far? I am not totally sure how the program works, class time then clinical/practicums etc? I will ask the program staff soon but I would like a students perspective first! Any other information would be great!! Thanks :)
  4. I am not sure. It is hard to find concrete information about what is required to become a nurse practitioner. I found this department website for UNBC's nurse practitioner program. I don't know much at this point but I'm sure that if I make it through nursing school I will find some answers http://www.unbc.ca/nursing/practitioner.html
  5. They currently have a 2 year waitlist!! Their program started a couple or maybe 3 years ago and they accepted applications but they do their waitlist by first come first served. So if you apply and you meet all the requirements first then you will be offered a seat in whichever intake you are accepted into. So 2 years from now will be Fall 2013.
