Chronic pain condition and pre-employment drug testing
II'm pretty sure rnibclc is incorrect. I have seen numerous post were people with legit script s were fine. It seems it depends on the employer, besides I the oxy is prn as is the valium neither of which I take everyday(I haven't taken the valium in weeks bc it makes me drowsy). My question was I guess more about what I should disclose and if Imodium and tca's w/o cause a false positive. Heather, my school didn't require a drug test. Even if they had, I wasn't taking anything but the Imodium when I started. I am also under the care of pain management and several other specialists so I know I can certainly get notes and can produce labels for anything that might come up. Though the Imodium is otc, so I might ask my Dr for a letter.

Chronic pain condition and pre-employment drug testing
Hello! I am a new nurse who happens to suffer from several chronic pain conditions. I am able to work to my full capacity but I do get help from prescribed medications. I recently was offered a position at a clinic but the offer is pending a drug test. I have never been drug tested before (despite working several direct patient roles over the decade) so Im a little nervous to what this entails. Currently my meds that I am concerned about are: nortriptyline 25-50mg QHS, Baclofen 10mg BID, oxycodone 5mg Q12H/PRN (I don't take nearly that amount, I split them), Imodium 1-2mg QID/PRN, Valium 5mg QHS/PRN (this is taken by alternate route and I only take half the dose and haven't taken it in a long time). So anyways, I know that since I legitimate scripts my medications shouldn't be too much of an issue, or would they? Anyone have any expierence with taking long term meds that may show up on a drug screen. My other concern is that I have seen varying info on weather Imodium shows up as a opioid on a drug screen. I take a large amount of this almost daily to help with a chronic GI issues, stopping it before a drug test is not an option. Has anyone here had an issue with it triggering a false positive? Also, I read that TCA's can trigger a false positive for amphetamines. I take this med for pain and GI issues so stopping it not an option either. Anyone know about this? If I trigger positives on my test does anyone know if they can test if further to rule out false positives? I know I have scripts for all of these meds and even the Imodium use is well documented so getting doctors notes won't be an issue, but I am worried about my new employer being notified about all of my medications (little TMI, and kinda embarrassing) and really would like to keep my medical history to myself. Sorry if this post seems a little silly, I am a little nervous about my first job an a RN and the drug test so I would appreciate a little advice (please no judgment).

What makes Kaplan successful
There were people in my class that were scoring in the high 50's low 60's and still passed, so it is possible. Just keep reading over the rationales even for the ones you get right. Also, even though I didn't do a lot of content review if there was an area that I kept getting the questions wrong with I definitely went over it. For example, I kept getting child development questions wrong, so I went over that until I wasn't getting them wrong. Granted I didn't get any questions on g&d but I still glad I went over the areas I was consistently weak on. Good Luck!

What makes Kaplan successful
I didn't think it was exactly the same. I felt my test was just extremely hard, but the priorties abd delagation question I thought was similar. Plus it is set up in a similar fashion as the online Kaplan. All abd all even though I didnt Luke the decision tree, I thought Kaplan to be the most useful prep our of all the ones I used

What makes Kaplan successful
I personally did not use the the decision tree really at all, I found that I never full grapsed the concept of it. I answered all of the questions, and read the rationals, I also bought thier Q&A book along with the online program my school made us do. I think it was most helpful that the questions where similar in set up to the actual test. I also used other books (saunders, LaCharity and Lippenscott alternate level questions) and read the rationals to those questions. I did very little content review, mostly went over rationals and did lots of questions (close to 4,000). I passed with 75 questions. Everyone is differnt though and you need to do what works for you.

RN licensing with Massachusetts BON
I actually had a very similar issue with MA BON. I took my boards in the 2nd and passed. I finally spent a lot of time calling this Monday. When I finally spoke to someone with the BON they told me in fact my license should have posted and the issue was with PCS not clearing me in the computer sysytem. I called PCS, and the issue was taken care of later that day. Not sure why you got a totally differnt answer from someone at the BON. But I am glad you finally got it fixed.

How long will it take for my license number to be issued?
I finally got in touch with the BON, and I am glad I did. Apparently PCS never notified the BON that I had passed my exam...It has now been fixed and my license has been posted! :-)

How long will it take for my license number to be issued?
Hello, I took my boards on May 2nd and received my quick results that I passed on May 4th. I wondering if anyone can give me any insight to how long it took the BON in MA to update your license on their website? I read over their website a little bit and it says it will be updated in approximately 3 business days...it has now been 6 business days. I have tried contacting the BON, but of course, I keep getting an automated message system rather than a live person. Has anyone else has this issue? I know I am probably being impatient but everyone else I have spoken to had their license number listed a lot sooner than 6 business days. I would like to start applying for jobs but don't want to do so until my license can be verified as being valid.

pearsonvue trick...accurate?
Yes the 48 hours is a long wait (my results were ready at about 258pm, lol) but I am beyond greatful my wait isn't as long as the one in CA or like the penicil and paper days...Im not sure I would have been able to handle that sort of wait. Congrats to everyone who has recently passed!

The PVT works! I PASSED! 75 questions, 1st try so beyond excited

I took my nclexrn on 5/3/14
Jennifer_app. I agree, content is super important for the SATA's I got 20 in the 75 questions I had, was slammed with meds, 4 EKG strips, a picture question a bunch of the look at the labs and figure out what you would do type questions, priorty, teaching, delagation and some other stuff. Agree with you, by far the hardest exam I have ever taken. But hopefully the difficulty will mean we were doing well and passed!!!

pearsonvue trick...accurate?
Ok, good to know! I was not aware that they are open 7 days a week. Hopefully my results will be in soon then.

pearsonvue trick...accurate?
Oh, I super impatient as well. I NEED TO KNOW! lol. I did get the "good pop up" but I need to see actual results, especially since I thought my exam was crazy hard and really feel as though I didnt do well (It shut off at 75, so I either passed or failed miserably). I will keep checking!
-
pearsonvue trick...accurate?
That's good to know, thanks! I realize it hasn't been exactly 48 hrs and figured I would have to wait until after 2pm...The reason I said 48 buisness hours is because I recieved an email with quick result instructions and it said 48 buisness hours, not regular hours. But I will check before I head off to work...Or maybe I will wait until after work, since if I failed I would rather not be at work having that sort of info on my mind.

pearsonvue trick...accurate?
I took my exam on Friday at 2pm. I thought I was allowed to get my quick results today, but I guess it is 48 buisness hours, not 48 hours :-(
-
pearsonvue trick...accurate?
Does anyone know how accurate the pearsonvue trick it? I thought I had read somewhere that people every once in a while have received the "good pop up" only to find out that they didn't pass. Just worried that I'm one of those people who got a false positive...

NCLEX RN study recommendations
I literally just finished taking mine 3hrs ago, so can't say with 100% certainty that theses worked, but I used Saunders, lacharity, the same Kaplan book you used, Lippincott's alternate type questions and my school made us do the Kaplan review course.

NCLEX exam in 11 days...
Thank you LVHI_RN. I think it is really easy to doubt yourself. I hear so many different takes how we should be studying for this test, it is hard to feel confident. It doesn't help that I have some classmates texting me saying "Im doing, this or that"...Well Im just going to keep plucking away and hopefully I pass.

PearsonVue Trick
Ive saw a couple posts where people got a good pop up but still failed. It seems pretty accurate, but you never know! Either way, wait until you can get your unofficial results and if it is a fail, then just pick yourself back up and figure out where you went wrong. I think with NCLEX sometimes it is hit or miss (I haven't taken it yet, so this is just MOP). When I take my practice exams there are some tests Im like "yeah, awesome!" because the questions asked are my strong areas, then sometimes I get questions from my weak areas and I want to cry! Just try to figure out your weak areas and go from there!

NCLEX exam in 11 days...
You couldn't pause them? Yikes! The online program lets us pause the qtrainers, thank goodness I can't sit through that many questions (though Im sure I could if I had to). Thanks for the advice. Ive been trying to do alternate format everyday, though today Im reviewing some stuff I know I am struggling with (like the developmental stages for peds). I will likely go back to more questions at the end of my studying tonight. Good luck!

NCLEX exam in 11 days...
Thanks for the reply. Ive been using Lippincott for the SATA and alternate type questions. You are right, you need content for those questions, I keep getting the right answers then one wrong one or miss one right one...It is driving me nutty! Did you use Kaplan too? I think I would be a little more confident if Kaplan used more SATA's in their qtrainers. I did qtrainer 6 the other night, did well, but I don't remember any SATA if there were, there were only a couple. In the back of my head I keep thinking "what if Im one of those people who get like 30 of those???" I don't think I am going to reschedule, it might make my anxiety worse, but it is sometimes a nice thought. Good luck with your test! We can do it!

NCLEX exam in 11 days...
I take my exam in 11 days...Every time I think about it I feel like Im going to vomit. I am seriously starting to think maybe my approach should have been different. Everyone who has taken it and all my professors kept telling me "questions, questions, questions and very little content review" So that is what I have been doing. Now I think maybe I should have done the opposite? I have been using Kaplan online review and have been doing well in the qbank and qtrainers, I also purchased a couple other books. I am STRUGGLING with the SATA, so this is a huge concern for me... I also have had a bunch of personal stuff going on, so that has been a HUGE distraction... Starting to think I should reschedule, but Im not sure that would help either... I JUST WANT TO PASS!

NCLEX coming up using Kaplan, but nervous
Thank you. I don't think I am going to reschedule. I think it will just be best for me to get it done on the day I have picked (because seriously, if I let myself postpone once I will just keep doing it, and I already rearranged my life enough for this test date)... I got my 2 new study books, have only looked at one at this point, but think they will help a lot. I guess I will just keep trucking away with Kaplan, the 2 new books and my Saunders. I think my biggest issue is there is so much info that could be on this exam that I feel overwhelmed. But, I guess that is to be expected, it is after all NCLEX. LOL

NCLEX coming up using Kaplan, but nervous
Thanks for the reply! I purchased the La Charity book, and I got Lippincott's NCLEX-RN Alternate-Format Questions 5e. They should be delivered tomorrow from amazon, so seeing that you thought it helped, as have others (from what I read) I'm pretty excited to get it. I was thinking the same thing about the meds. Ive been trying to class them, but Im still having some trouble with that, but Im trying to do what I can. Im so nervous about the alternate type questions I am starting to wonder if I should push my test date back...but Im pretty sure that wouldn't do any good anyways.
