BHCC 2012 Fall Acceptance
yes. for all classes that begin in NUR. you add $35 per credit. there is not a flat rate for the nursing program as many have led me to believe (including the brochure). So, if you have taken all or most of your co-req's. The nursing program will run you about the same (as far as tuition and fees) for a full year as you would pay to take a full-load (12 credits+) of regular courses at BHCC. About $5k per year. Because this way, if you have taken your co-req's before hand..you will only end up carrying about 9 credits a semester so the extra $35/credit will not be noticeable. The bigger issue here is the cost of nursing textbooks which are expensive. They quote the total cost of textbooks for all Nursing courses will be approx: $1500 and the cost of uniforms $200. Malpractice insurance $15/ year. Then of course at the end of the program you need to pay to take the NCLX and licensing related fees. The rates for tuition I have given here, reflect mass residency only. Hope this was helpful.

I got what everyone wanted and now, I'm unsure that "I" want it.
@ justbreathe the thing is..I'm not annoyed that i got in per-say... its more like i'm annoyed that i have to choose between two things i wanted. i figured if i did not get in, yes i would have been sad, but at least my decision would've been made for me and it would've been 'out of my control'. basically, i wanted fate to chose me not to chose my own fate...as pathetic as that sounds @ Rob lol erickson's stages. i'm probably stuck in stage 5....as i clearly have no idea who i am! basically when i say 'college experience' i just mean i want to be around other people around my age --being in a specified major (so a lot of the same interests) with the same sort of lifestyle going on. i am unmarried, childless, 24 and do not want to or have to work f/t to support a family while i am in school. i'm kind of looking to be around and make friends with people at similar places in their lives. i know at a community college yes if i am in the nursing program i am bound to fit a few close friends in a group of 30 people that are together for 2 years. but at the same time, its not like the socioeconomic dynamic of the college will have changed. a lot of people who go to community colleges, esp those that do night programs work a 9-5 job f/t, could be married, or have kids and be over 30. this is just the way it kind of is at community college, its purpose is to make education accessible to someone who isn't a 'traditional' college student. i am in a sense a traditional college student ---i.e this is my job...to go to school and to get good grades. its very difficult to start new friendships with people who have opposite lifestyles. i barely see my existing friends who are married or have kids, because they are in different points of their lives...you see what i mean? anyway thanks everyone for responding! i really appreciate it! i applaud you for even reading all that!

I got what everyone wanted and now, I'm unsure that "I" want it.
I got into Nursing school today. I honestly never expected to get in. I started college with no direction, never knowing what I wanted to 'do'. I tried to give myself some direction by picking something 'practical', 'challenging' and 'competitive'. I picked Nursing. As it turned out...I found my love for science while taking my nursing pre-req's, which was great. I got into the program at my current community college so this would be for a 2 year ADN (although I already have enough credits for an associates in general studies). I would only need to take nursing courses and have done all co-req's. I figured I wouldn't get in, I 'winged' my TEAs because I was so busy this semester, and somehow by the grace of god did phenomenal on it anyway. I had applied also to the 4 year school I always wanted to go to as a back up school for an entirely different major- Natural Resource Conservation. I got into that and have been in the mind set that I would go there, b/c i would not get into the 'competitive' nursing program. I have been looking up classes, visited the campus for 3 days, and have been e-mailing potential roommates ever since. As of today my world has changed. Did I ever really want to be a nurse? How do you know you want to be a nurse when you've never been one? I've never been a CNA even. I am a delicate person, and from reading these forums I'm starting to think I don't have the rough and tough attitude to deal with catty nurses, rude patients, death, emergency situations, feces, vomit and mucous daily. Not to say that I am squeemish at all but these are things I'm not sure I'd be able to deal with for years upon years. Another thing is that I have a rare sleeping disorder which basically makes me a night person. This is one of those rare, well paid career situations where I could most certainly find a job working nights. Whereas, ecology and resource conservation is more of a day-job thing. Even if I switched my major to a more lab-focused science, it seems that those are also mainly day jobs. I have also too heard about how the nursing shortage is a lie, how what is promised about job opportunity after graduation is really quite far from the reality. However, this may be, there are really very few jobs in any career field at this time. But at least there is a permanent need for nurses, and I can't say the same for science. Science loses plenty of funding the second a republican president steps into office especially 'green' careers. The other thing is that, as much as there may not be a 'shortage' there is still a higher employment rate for nursing than there is for many other careers and majors in college. I feel guilty almost. Because I know many of the students I've been conversing with on this forum really wanted to get into the program more than anything. And here I am, almost annoyed that I got in because now I have to make a decision that I didn't think I'd have to make. Everyone in my family is trying to pull me in different directions. My parents want me to go to the 4 year school and so does my boyfriend and my best friend. My LPN aunt tells me horror stories about new graduates at her work place, how they don't get jobs..etc. She also wants me to go to the 4 year school. The rest of my friends/family think I should go onto nursing. That it would accommodate my 'disability' well (i also got into the evening program), it is a respectable field, would help me pay off my loans (i owe a lot already...don't even ask how!), and there is more job security in this field than a lot of other choices. For me, going to nursing school would make me feel really good about myself I think. To be able to say I'm training to be an RN while everyone is still so disillusioned about the fact that it doesn't have as many job openings as the media acts like it does. I feel like I could definitely handle the course work, its just the real world I'm worried about quite frankly. The nursing students are the most respected group in the college I've looked at them in awe sometimes. I've also stared dreamily looking into the brand new clinical class rooms, with their robot patients thinking how I would love to 'play' with them. But also, going to nursing school means staying with my current college for two years. A college that I honestly, do not really like. It is very unorganized and frustrating, it is also very racially and ethnically segregated. I have not made any friends in the 4 years I have been there. But I do realize that being in the nursing 'group' is like being part of something else entirely, I will be with a small group of about 29 students for 2 years and am bound to make friends. It also means I will be giving up on having a traditional 'college experience', which was a big factor in choosing to apply to the 4 year school I wanted to go to. I wanted to finally be able to have what all my friends had right out of high school, but that I never got. But at the same time...I already may be too old for that. There was just something that drew me to the idea of so many different opportunities and things to get involved in on a new campus, with 30,000+ other people that don't yet know you. I had hoped going to a big college like this, two hours away from all of my friends and family would give me the ability to challenge myself in a new surrounding. To learn to be more social and independent, and emotionally mature...as I feel like I am currently a pretty co-dependent person. It would also allow me to really cut out and distance myself from a lot of the negative people in my life, especially in my family. Whereas if I did nursing, it seems I would have to live mostly at home again which is really not necessarily a healthy in environment. I'm 24 years old and still can't decide what path to take. I am really just at the point where I have no idea what is the best decision for me...and although I know this is very long I would appreciate any advice since I can't seem to think for myself or convey these feelings to the other people in my life--who all seem to have their own motives. Thank you.

BHCC 2012 Fall Acceptance
yeah it still says general studies. i was more intrigued by the fact that I KNEW it said day option before and now it says evening. I assume this means something for those that it changed for, although I'm not sure what.
-
BHCC 2012 Fall Acceptance
hmm interesting. perhaps the evening option is easier to get into? i don't have all my co-req's so maybe that's why. but someone obviously changed it. i'm curious to know what others who applied to the day option as the first choice had...if there was a change or no change.

BHCC 2012 Fall Acceptance
ok guys. so...remember when everyone was making a big deal about how there was a glitch in my bhcc? well. i think that may have actually had some validity and I always dismiss all these nuances. this is because a few days ago when the glitch happened...it didn't seem like it indicated anything. prior to the glitch under my program evaluation it would read "General Concentration" and "Nursing Day Option" (this makes sense because I APPLIED to the day option first) now...after the glitch it has changed to "Nursing Evening Option" Now, why would this randomly happen? I would think it would at least mean that I am no longer being considered for the day option. Everyone check your program evaluation in my bhcc and report any changes please :)

BHCC 2012 Fall Acceptance
Msolana7: if you have a 3.9 AND the test scores you showed, i really think you are going to get in. especially if you have 20+ credits. if not, their admission process is definitely flawed and thats not your fault and there is nothing you can do about that. you should try applying to salem state next year if for some completely messed up reason they do not admit you here. I applied there, I didn't get in BUT they pretty much told me after the fact that admissions for transfer nursing students was completely g.p.a based. that everyone who got in had a 3.7 or higher. you didn't need TEAS scores or any specific courses to apply. they have no 'requirements'. So, I would definitely apply there if this does not work out (although I sincerely think it will). They won't tell you up front that its g.p.a based when you are applying there but they told me afterwards that it was. Having good TEAS scores on top of that amazing g.p.a would definitely get you in there. AND you would graduate w/ a BSN not a ADN, which is much more desirable. can't say i'm shocked that the admission committee has not met yet, this IS bhcc after all. lol. They should really get them out before May 1st, that's when most deadlines are for notifying other colleges of intent to enroll. I got into Salem State for Biology & Umass Amherst. This was the only 'nursing' program I applied to, because it is inexpensive and there are a decent amount of 'seats' available. Plus a lot of the things we've been told about a 'nursing shortage' are lies. You can find that out by simply browsing this site. If I don't get in here, I plan to move forward with a Biology degree and go back for nursing afterwards. The BS to RN programs are less competitive it seems and are cropping up all over the place. They also have BS to MSN programs also. Are most of you considering going on to a BSN anyway?

BHCC 2012 Fall Acceptance
your scores are very similar to mine. reading is almost identical and science is exactly the same. i did a little better on math...i got an 80. but @ the same time i don't really think they're looking for too much math. i know the reading is the BIGGEST factor. so you've done very well on that...the people that took the teas the same night as me were all sharing their scores afterwards. 3 people showed me scores that had reading in the 40's. it sure weeds a lot of people out. they need to make sure that first & foremost that you're going to be able to comprehend and retain the material. other than for drug calculations, you really don't need too much math in the nursing profession. if you've taken drug calc and got an A or B and or any other math courses, than it seems it may counteract your math scores. i think they matter the least. science is important b/c they need to know that you retained your knowledge from your prereq's, and you did VERY well on that so i think there is really nothing to worry about. i am personally a little worried that they look at the sets of questions and your percentage of correct answers. like anatomy and chem in the science section. i only had 50% of the questions right from the anatomy section! not good! but don't know if it has any bearing or if they just use the total score for each subject. its really hard to tell what bhcc actually uses! but anyway, you are most definitely in the running for a spot. you did much better than a lot of other students, just look @ your percentiles under 'program'. this will compare you to all the other students @ bhcc that have taken the tea V (accepted or not). example in case you don't know how to read percentiles: 97 percentile means that 97 percent of all students got exactly the same score as you OR lower. most likely lower. goodluck!

BHCC 2012 Fall Acceptance
hi everyone. I applied for Fall 2012 also @ bhcc. My TEAS date wasn't until March 26th, so I'm not really surprised that they have not met yet. I cannot remember when the last date was for TEAS testing, it might have been mine or I think it could have even been the 29th or so of March. I know from reading the forums from last semester that students applying for Spring 2012 did not receive their letters until the first week of January. Meaning that is highly possible that we might not get any letters until after the semester is over (anyone who currently goes to bhcc should realize by now that they have a significant lack of funding for their administrative processes anyway, so this would not be too shocking). I know its frustrating because a lot of us have applied to other schools including myself that are trying to decide whether or not to respond to other acceptances :-/. So I wish you all luck if you are struggling with that. Where did/how did you find out that the orientation was in mid-May? I have also learned from older posts that having 'nursing' under your program evaluation in mybhcc has absolutely no bearing on whether or not you will be accepted. It pretty much just means that your application to the program has been processed and is complete. How'd you all do on your TEAS? I got a 92.9 in reading, 80 in math and 75 in science (these are my individual adjusted scores NOT my percentiles). I know the percentiles were different so I'm wondering if that just means how we stack up against others that have applied (under where it says 'program'), right? Good Luck Everyone!

Bunker Hill FALL 2012
I applied for fall '12. i heard they didn't send out acceptance for the spring until almost the end of the fall semester (mid-decemeber) which really scares me because i have other acceptance letters i need to respond or deny :-/ so hopefully we hear by the end of april at the latest. i am taking the TEAS this thursday the 29th. i haven't done much studying but i've been taking math and science courses this semester so hopefully that helps. did you guys do a lot of studying for it? i am worried about the geology/rock type questions that i heard were on it. i have 15 credits so its a little hard to study for it :-/. when i applied they told me all that counts is TEAs scores & grades for pre-req's and english and math courses not total g.p.a. So only: Human growth & development Drug Calc Anatomy I English comp I & (II?) & whatever math courses that have been taken. but i keep hearing different things from everyone....so its really confusing to figure out what actually matters :-/. since now a BSN is pretty much the only way you can get a job its even difficult to say whether or not its a good idea to go for my ADN...or to keep applying for BSN...2 years for ADN vs. 2 years for BSN + the costs associated with. anybody else apply to 4 year schools for nursing? i applied to salem state but didn't get in. they said everyone who got in had a 3.7 or higher...i only had a 3.4. it seems there all they care about its cumulative g.p.a, so maybe that might be an option for those of you with high GPAs ....good luck all!

BHCC Spring 2012 acceptance letters
congrats to everyone who got in, and my condolences to those who did not. i was looking @ this thread for info since i'm applying for fall 12'. hopefully when i apply everyone won't be at each others throats about admissions...that kinda stuff is getting kind of bad in pre-req's already. people wouldn't help me make up labs in chem or anatomy b/c they are so catty and competitive...yet you end up with the same people sitting next to each other in the program having to work together. For those that are doing pre-req's & applying BE NICE to the others in your courses and who are applying! its only gonna hurt you in the long-run if you act selfishly...and selfish people don't make good nurses!

Bunker Hill NURSING SPRING 2012
did either of you guys get in? i'm applying for fall 12' in a few days when the school re-opens. i'm trying to figure out if i even have a chance, otherwise i'll have to graduate in the spring and use my joint-admissions program to transfer to a 4 year for something else...it expires soon. i'll then probably do a bs to rn program, which are easier to get into i've heard. it'll take me 2 1/2 more years to get an adn if i even have to wait another cycle (i've already been here for 2). when it could take me 3 years to do a bs in a science major and then go get a second bachelors in nursing....it almost doesn't sound worth it to stay here even if i get in for the fall. But i was told by many a nursing schools to take the opportunity for an rn asap even if it is in adn form. I don't think they'll send me an acceptance letter/ rejection letter until very close to the end of the spring semester so i'd need to make a decision extremely quickly. So any info about whehter or not you got in/ on the waiting list and what your grades were would be very helpful to me. Here are mine: A&P 1: B Chem: A Drug Calc: A Human Growth: A College writing 1: C College Writing 2: A Math 094: A I'm applying to the day program so i don't have the co-req's done, those are getting done next semester (micro & a&p2)
