Hey Dea... congrats on getting everything submitted.. so I called to see what I needed... does this sound right... SAP appeals form Statement of why we need financial aid.... then take these to advisement where they give you a degree audit and and IEP then take that to the financial aid office and sit back and wait... Thats what the guy told me... is this what you did? Also on the sap appeals form... it asked for supporting documentation... I am in the same boat as you with too many credits.. did you submit any supporting documents besides the ones previously listed? Thanks for your help!

Honestly, I really didnt know what to expect going in to this test... but after a couple questions, they reminded me of LSAT type questions... so I just used my strategy from that. I honestly didn't take any classes for it or anything like that, just got lucky I guess. As you progress through the program, I am sure you will get better so dont stress now. Step one is to learn the material. Once you have that taken care of, you will have the tools you need to think thoroughly about questions and answer them accordingly.

Same as pixiemom, I had a few friends in law school and when they were studying for the LSAT I always looked through some practice questions. The best advice I got was to look at the question and use the information. Don't use any outside assumptions and just strictly use the information obtained in the question. The hardest part about the critical thinking is to go into the test or approach the questions without your typical day to day assumptions and the way things are supposed to be done... for example we all know that running a red light is bad, but if the question doesn't say or infere that, then you can not assume that running a red light is bad... its a bad example, but gives a general idea of my point. I guess the best thing to do is approach any critical thinking question with a clear and open mind, know all of the detail from the question, and make a decision. It's easier said than done, but with practice, you will get better. I ended up with a composite score in the 90's so Im assuming I did something right. Class starts soon... anyone nervous? Also, has anyone had to go through the SAP process for financial aid?

The book store has great shoes and they are a fair price... I got an email today saying that I was not cleared off for my background check... i got a copy in my email... pretty boring... everything was a pass... no problems... wonder what could be up?!

They actully sent the email on the 6th (wed) at noon and the survey closed two days later (fri) at 9 am. I checked my email at the last minute and found it at like 11pm on Thursday, so I didn't get my first or second choice, but some people didn't check at all and didnt get to choose. I think generic might be different though, I'm not 100% sure.

So for the A/O. We received a survey in our email the week before orientation where we had to rank our choice of clinicals... By Monday at orientation, we were told that we were already registered for the fall term and that they tried to give everyone their first choice and they went by the time stamp of when we submitted the survey. Some people didn't check their email in time and were placed automatically. So shirt answer.... The registered for us.

Has anyone heard anything from financial aid?

Anyone taking CPR/bls at the homestead campus on 7/9? The initial CPR wasn't offered at med campus for that day

I'm not sure what my gpa was cause I haven't seen the evaluated transcripts, but is around 3.4ish... My teas was 89.9. ... I had a lot of transcript issues though :/

Hey... Just got an email.. I got in to the accelerated program!! Got my email 13 minutes ago.

So I had transcript problems only because I submitted it while finishing one class(which was not a pre req) so the policy of the school is they will not evaluate a transcript if it is incomplete. If the deadline for next fall is May 1st again and all of your classes are complete by the time you send a transcript, it shouldn't be a problem. However, in order to make the deadline, you have to send a transcript far in advance as possible, so if you will still be finishing by say, early April, I'd say talk to one of the directors.

Anyone hear anything yet today??

Can you choose to be placed at a different campus? What if there is no room left? I can't imagine that they can accommodate everyone's request to change campuses no?

This is crazy. 8 different answers from one department...I Sure hope it's not like this when we are actually inthe program :/

congrats for sure. I definitely think that is one of the main draws to MDC is that it is so inexpensive compared to most other places, but FIU is great. :)

You are totally right... I was told before the deadline that I was all set and to look for a letter in June... Then in mid may I tried calling back to confirm, but to no avail. Left my name and number on voicemails, left my information with the people at the desk, but never got a call back. To update on my situation... I had a new transcript sent over and the admissions director who instructed me to do this also told me to call her on Friday to confirm everything because she is going to be out of town next week. I called, several times, no answer. Left several voicemails and never got a call back. So now I just have to wait, hoverer, I have emailed a few deans and other administrators who are now aware of the situation and the lack of communication along with inconsistent information we keep getting, so hopefully something will change.... *sigh But, futurenursing grad, at least you are in a program now and can focus on your goal.

Hey dea089, I went yesterday to verify everything.. They do in fact have all of my transcripts... the only situation is they will not evaluate the transcript with A&P on it because the transxript is incomplete... its the root of this whole problem :/

At least you were on top of it, but I was told yesterday that even though my courses are complete... The fact that it will not show my masters degree yet would pose another problem and they would still not evaluate. My degree will post next week, so hopefully it will not be too late. I emailed a few people( chair of the program, dean of the nursing school, academic dean of Miami dade and the president of the medical center campus) though to see if the problem could be cleared up... Hopefully someone will help. It's just weird they don't mention this policy because on their website it clearly states as long as the pre requisites are complete before the deadline, then you are fine... It then goes on to state that even if you are currently enrolled in pre requisites at the time of the application, you will still be considered. :/

So I was there today and heard a lot of stuff. I heard a couple women making phone calls alerting everyone to check their emails next week. Second, one of the supervisors told me decisions have been made and emails will go out as early as Monday. Third, I had a major problem while there... I noticed a few days ago that the system was still requesting a transcript from my current graduate school. I just graduated with my master's degree a couple weeks ago, so when the transcript was originally sent, I was still enrolled in a Histology class... so my transcript showed that grade as a blank space. A couple of the pre requisites (anatomy and physiology) I took during my masters program about a year ago, which was listed on my transcript. So naturally, I thought everything would be covered. I made a phone call a couple weeks ago to make sure, left my name and number, but no one ever called me back. So I went to the admissions office today to talk to someone and found out that my masters degree transcript was never evaluated... so the system still shows me as not meeting the anatomy and physiology requirments, although they have been complete for over a year and are on the transcript that is currently in their possession. I was then told "too bad, you will have to reapply"... after arguing for several minutes, I was then shown into the office of the director or supervisor, or whatever she is... after saying her system was down, she was unable to look up any of my information, but the pervious advisor I spoke to gave her the basics of my situation. After several more minutes of arguing.. she says there is really nothing she can do and that because decisions are already made, I will have to reapply for the september 1st deadline. I just need people's opinions... because I feel like this is completely unfair.. I submitted everything before the deadline... even clept'ed out of a class before May 1. She is telling me because my degree was not complete, they would not even look at my transcript. Is this right? I feel like people apply to programs while in progress at another school... its pretty common. Is there anyone I could or should talk to above these people in the new student center? I feel like this is a mistake on their part that they just dont want to own up to seeing as how I have had everything in since the deadline. The only glimmer of hope I have is that my masters degree will be conferred on Wednesday of next week.. meaning... it will show up on my transcript.. she said I could submit it as soon as it shows up and be placed in the applicant pool, and if people start not taking the offer of admissions, maybe then Id have a chance... but she said no garuntee. Im going to do this, but I feel like there is a better way to be proactive before monday.

I haven't gotten a call either... What do these people do in that office anyways? Alls I see them do is walk around, eat, and have conversations with each other... Meanwhile... We end up waiting over an hour to seesomeone.

Thanks for the info... I guess I will have to drop by and give them another visit at the medical center campus. Any names of seasoned advisors I could talk to? I usually only seem to get the "part timers" that you had mentioned. Thanks again for the info.

Yeah, I just finished up my masters degree in biomedical science. To satisfy the pre requisites they look through and see what on my transcripts satisfy their requirements. Back in April, I was told everything looked good, except for the human growth and development pre requisite... so I took the CLEP and passed. So that was my last requirement to satisfy. I did that degree audit thing on the student portal and it says a few requirements are not met... one being the chemistry requirement... however, Ive taken three semesters of organic with lab, and 3 semesters of general chem, all with lab, so Im not sure why Im not meeting that requirement. Also, It says I haven't met the anatomy or physiology requirements, however, in my masters program, I took a 6 credit anatomy class with cadaver lab, and a 6 credit physilogy class, with lab. Again, not sure why they are saying im not meeting these requirements. I am just kind of frustrated because the advisors have been telling me everything looks good since april, after dissecting my transcripts. Coming into the middle of June, Im scrambling to figure this out ASAP.

Does anyone know how to talk to the people who evaluate your transcripts? Everytime I talk to an advisor about transcripts or pre requisites, they don't seem to have any information what so ever...the only response I get is "Well, it depends how the transcript evaluators look at your transcripts and its up to them what classes you've taken satisfy the prerequisites." I try to figure out how to talk to them and Im told that there is no way. Has anyone ever seen these people or know where they are located? Thanks
