Thank you Kaydensmom01! This is what I needed so thank you. It really is hard when you look at the books cause it is pretty intimidating. I can't wait to get into a program and this should help immensely in that first semester. How far into the program are you?

hey all! i hope to start nursing school in the fall 2012 and my program will have a pharmacology class. i want to self study before that time but don't specifically know what to memorize. when i look at drug books there are lots of categories under each drug name. i'm guessing we have to know trade names, generic names, uses, interactions, for example, but what else should we focus on? i have a pharm book but looking at it makes my eyes cross. there's so much info! i guess what i need to know is how to study. the categories and how to get started. i found this video that seemed to help but i'm not sure if she includes all categories to study for each drug or class. thoughts? http://youtu.be/jougtau04we

I wish I would have found your post a few minutes ago! I just posted a similar question. Congrats to you on getting started! I also start my first CNA job next week. Will this be a career change for you or are you starting right into this field? I know what you mean about the questions but remember it's all about learning and onboarding. I honestly think communication is key so I know that's one thing I will be doing is asking questions, reclarifying and making sure I understand expectations and the culture of the team and residents. I like LaterAlligator's remark regarding observing your coworkers cause you really can learn a lot that way too. All the best to you! You're gonna be great!

Hello all, I hope you are all doing well! I am starting my FIRST CNA job this coming week and I am looking for your advice on getting started. Any tips you can provide on what I should brush up on and be prepared for as I begin? It's been almost 2 years since I took my certification course so I'm brushing up on text material at the moment. Having a job that pays for school is a huge benefit. It would be nice if the CNA job paid that for you. I actually work FT in a non-medical related field and will be starting a PT CNA job this coming week. I've taken on enough hours that work for me so that's what I would advise of you as well. Just make sure that balance between the two so you don't get burned out. I agree wtih caliotter3 that school is important so you should focus on that and what will be best for your overall development in the future. All the best to you!
