MA's Calling Themselves Nurses?
When I was working at Keesler AFB Medical Center in Biloxi, MS one of the Air Force Medical Techs asked what was the difference in what I was doing as a LPN and what they were doing as Medical Technicians. My response was twofold. 1) Being with the miltary they were very likely be sent overseas, especially to Irag of Afghanistan. 2) That as a Licensed Practical Nurse, I am considered a licensed professional who can be sued. In the military they cannot be sued.

Be Careful What You Say...
If you don't want something repeated, then don't say it.

Nurses wearing white
White uniforms are the most impractical color for a nurse. Anything and everythings show up on them. The administrators should try wearing white uniforms and see how many marks show up on them in one day alone

Has your Nursing License ever been in Jeopardy?
Every time I ever worked in a Nursing Home, I felt my license was in jeopardy. There was always staffing shortages and one time on an 11 to 7 shift, we had two nurses and two aides in the building with 138 residents. A few days later State showed up, and by some miracle we passed. My license now has a restriction on it because of a medication error that happened last year when I tried to help out another nurse. For some reason, our count was right before I left that night but the next morning a narcotic was missing. Guess who got the blame? This taught me a lesson about trying to help someone when it could endanger your license. I have now learned to refuse to do anything that may endanger my license, but you will always find someone that wants you to do something that is not always kosher. Those are the ones you have to watch. For those of you who are overcoming addiction problems, I commend you. I have been in pain for years due to an injury at work and I know the temptation. You just want the pain to go away. No one can judge you for that. As long as employers see us nurses as commodities, we are going to have problems. They are looking for cost effective ways of keeping their companies afloat. A lot of times, they will cut nursing personel instead of administrative personel. I would rather have an employer who worried about Staffing & patient care and safety than one who worried about keeping the paper work up to date.

New grad not wanting to work
Good for you! Our society is getting away from the more important things like family. A loving family is more important than one's career. In the end what counts it is not what you are but who you are. Your career defines what you are, your family defines who you are. There needs to be a balance so I would encourage you to do some nursing on the side as part-time. May God be with you.

MA's Calling Themselves Nurses?
I am a LPN and I know how you feel. My most recent job was with the US Air Force. Even though I was doing both the work on Med Techs and RN's as a LPN, it really urked me when people refered me as the civilian equivalent of a Med Tech. Even a couple of RN's who were Captains in the Air Force said this. I corrected them stating two important differences. 1) I can practice Nursing anyplace in the world because I am licensed, and 2) I admitted because of my LPN status would be enlisted, it would put me in an upper category of enlisted personel like a Chief in the Navy or a Master or Senior Sargaent in the Air Force! That would be anywhere from an E-5 to E-9 A Med tech would be those personel who are in the lower enlisted population (E-1 to, E-4). MA's are exactly that and need to go by that designation. "God is Dead!" Neitche........."Neitche is Dead!" God:)

Layoffs tomorrow!
No, the best revenge on hospitals and other nursing facilities is to have Jesus Christ come back and heal everybody. But then we all be out of a job.

Layoffs tomorrow!
I know how you feel. I got laid off at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi working in a clinic. I was hired there because of our troops being deployed. But they signed a new contract that took effect on August 1, 2004 and, after being told it should not effect my position, was laid off because the Dept of Defense decided that 13 positions were not needed. Which begs the question when are they going to quit paying $500 for a toilet seat?
