I got a call today from the Nursing Office to ask if I would like to be an alternate. So for all of you out there who got a rejection letter (like I did) keep your hopes up!!

I can certainly understand that, dear. I would have done the exact same thing as you had it been my child. I'm amazed that you were able to stay in the class at all! That's shows your will and determination to not give up because of hard times!! Good job! I know that a "good job" won't get you into the program, but it is nice to just hear it, sometimes. :) Good luck on your retake of A&P. What campus are you at?

There are so many threads out there that are for the people who got accepted into the nursing programs that I felt that one was needed for the people who didn't get in. I would first like to offer congratulations to the people who got accepted! YAY! You have quite a road ahead of you, and good luck!! For the ones who did not get accepted, this thread is specifically for you. You are in good company. Let me start by telling you a bit about myself. I am a mother of four, ages ranging from 16 to 2 years old. I am a wife, student, and cake sculptor. The first three jobs are full time, and the last one is, well, whenever anyone wants a cake. I applied to the IVY TECH program for the Fall of '11 and I was rejected. I had an overall score of 164.something. I had all A's in the prereqs and a 74% on the TEAS. I did not study for the TEAS, which, I am sure, is what negatively affected my application. So, now, what I am planning on doing is studying my butt off for the retake of the TEAS. I have purchased the ATI study package and signed up for some fall classes. I am retaking Math 136 because I received a 'B' in it. The reason I am doing this is because if I still do not do well on the TEAS, I will transfer back to IUPUI and apply to their BSN program. (IUPUI tells people that a 4.0 is not necessary, but it is if you want to be a shoe-in.) The other class that I am signed up for is Advanced Human Physio. I don't think I want to take Micro and 201 in the same semester, so I will hold off on micro until the spring, regardless of whether of not I get into the program for the spring. I have also thought about taking Finite, so that way I would have all of my bases covered if I did need to apply to IUPUI, as finite is a prereq there. :nuke: So, that is my plan. When I first got my letter, I thought I was going to just sit and cry. I felt so dejected and wracked my brain thinking of what to do. But, my husband was there, and he was very supportive. He said that there is always next time. And he was right! Now it will not be about me simply getting in to nursing at some point. It will be about me rising up and proving to myself and others that I can do it. I think that with this mindset, I am more excited to be doing better, and getting better prepared for anything that is thrown my way. WORLD, WATCH OUT!! Here I come!!!

Got the denial letter from Columbus today. It says nursing, so I presume I am still waiting on LPN. This really sucks, but at least my husband is being supportive. That's all that matters, right? Good luck to everyone else!!

Today, I stepped out to get my mail and to see if anything came from Ivy Tech. I see a card from them. Now, I know that they will send the letter in an envelope that I addressed so it will have my writing on it, but that didn't stop my stomach from jumping into my throat when I read "Congratulations!". I felt light headed. I read on. "You made the Dean's List!" I don't think I have ever been so disgusted at being on a Dean's List as I had been today.

Man, this wait is killing me. Every time I think about whether or not I got in, I feel like I'm going to . I tried calling this morning to see when Columbus is sending the letters out. Again, to no avail. I think they had all calls regarding the pondering of nursing routed to a line to which no one is assigned to avoid people like me. Has anyone else heard anything about Columbus? I am going :dzed: over this.

From what I've seen on here, it seems that you have nothing to worry about when it comes to your points to get in. I didn't apply to Sellersburg. I only applied to Columbus. As far as there being a deadline to reply to the letters, there would have to be one. Otherwise, everyone who applied to a bunch of schools would automatically be enrolled in all of the programs. The other reason is to make people aware of the positions that have not been filled and give those people the opportunity to accept a place in the program.

I couldn't agree more. I could go take a few more classes take the MCATS and go to medical school. I want to be a nurse though so I am holding out and I have a few scholarships that won't transfer. I have done my very best so we will see in a week or two. Did you get into Ivy Tech Nursing program? I haven't heard anything, yet. I hope I did, lol! I have very mixed feelings about this whole ordeal. I guess that everyone does though. People are always going to second guess themselves until they are in the midst of it all. I hope you get in to your program!! I have thought the very same thing about the MCATS. Ultimately, though, I want to do research (schwann cells and multiple sclerosis), and I will have a better go of it if I get my nursing degree, as the nurses are the majority of the people who write and monitor the medical journals. (Isn't it funny how that works?:smackingf) Good luck! Keep us informed as to whether or not you got in! I think we will all need -----> :beer: once it's all said and done.

:twocents:You're correct in that IUPUI is very competitive. I was going to IUPUC (IUPUI-Columbus) and did most of my pre-reqs there. I took a "How to Succeed in Nursing" class, and it was there that I decided to go to Ivy Tech for my associates instead of my bachelors. (I can get my masters without having a bachelors, as I found out in this class, which is what I will be doing.) Back to the program though, I was told at IUPUC that to even be considered I would have to have straight A's, which wasn't a problem for me, but I found that to be a bit ludicrous. I mean, a 3.6 will get a person into a physician's program, but not in nursing? I suppose, though, that it is the students' fault because we are the ones who set such a high, competitive standard for the program. If none of us made good grades, then they would have to accept everyone based upon the interviews, right?

I was wondering if anyone knew, right offhand, what the weighting is on the classes. I had mine all figured up and, in all of the hubbub, I have completely spaced and need to re-figure mine, but the online nursing session is down.

Really?! Why is that? I knew about the entire selection points process (not sure if I said that right) for nursing school, but I didn't know about any weighting for the Teas alone. You've gotten me all sorts of excited now!! (I can barely type, lol!)

I applied only to Columbus. I got a 53 on my science, but 100 in math, 93 in reading, and 98 in English, so I don't know how that will balance. You would probably get in before me because they don't go by percentages, but by an overall weighted score. 190 is the absolute highest a person can get. When I spoke with my advisor, he said that he has seen a lot of Teas tests and that mine was one of the highest he's seen, but I don't know whether to be happy or upset, because I didn't study and this was the first time I took it. It's very conflicting.

Really? Would you mind telling which branch he applied at? I feel as if I'm grasping for any information, because I have been stalking both this site and the Ivy Tech discussion boards to get a feel for where I stand. So, any extra information that may spit a glimmer of hope in my (our) direction(s) would be greatly appreciated!!

Really? I heard the opposite. I heard that since some schools did not have a spring nursing class, the normal 300 turned into 900 competing for a place. This came from my science department chair.

"They say that the increased simulation (instead of hands on clinical experience) will not hamper our learning. I am not so sure how I feel about this. I want to call IUPUI and see about how much time they simulate in their lab vs hands on. I don't want to waste my money and learning time on a dummy. I don't think it could possibly be as good as hands on. Opinions?" I know that I am a little late to the draw here, but the Sim-man is a very good resource. It is just like working with a real human. It is programmable to have heart attacks (among numerous other things), you can take its blood pressure and pulse, and it breathes. It teaches you to follow certain critical steps, and while you're working on Sim-man, you're being monitored. It's a very interesting experience.You also might find helpful, although it seems to be a bit dated. It gives an overall view of Sim-man, but the ones that are around now are much more high tech.
