Thanks for your support everyone :) I moved because my husband was doing his residency at 2 different hospitals (he is a physician) but we plan to be in Massachusetts permanently. I applied for my MA license, but I am feeling very discouraged. I'm also worried I will lose my skills and will be out of date with my knowledge. Is there anything I can do to make myself a more desirable applicant?

I graduated from a BSN program about a year and a half ago and I've been unemployed since. Granted, I've moved around because of my husband's job, but I literally have sent hundreds of applications out. I've had few interviews for new grad programs, but nothing further. Because I am about to move yet again to another state, where I have absolutely no connections. I'm not sure what I'm missing. I have a stack of glowing recommendations from instructors and RN friends who have recommended me to their managers. I've even tried going to see managers in person and they literally cut me off saying, "Not hiring new grads, sorry." I've tried to keep up my knowledge with classes but I'm get very discouraged. I took out loans for school and so did my husband so we are both swimming in student loan debt. I am passionate about nursing and I really really miss it but I don't think I would have entered this profession had I known that new grads are having such a hard time getting employment. Please- advice is more than welcome.

I had the same experience in school. I had one clinical instructor who told me that I was the brightest and quickest learner he had ever come across and that I would make an excellent nurse, and one instructor told me that I was "mentally slow". No joke. Your clinical instructor is an awful horrible useless instructor. Ignore her and know that she will not determine your future. It's hard to ignore it, I know. When you're in school you have few nursing role models and you depend on your clinical instructors to guide you and when one of them is so hurtful and frankly idiotic that she think she should even teach, it's confusing and you question whether you have what it takes. But ask yourself: Do I love nursing? Is it my passion? Do I enjoy learning? If your answers are yes, you will be a good nurse. Have faith. Don't be fake with you instructor, you don't have to be really nice to her. That will just **** her off because she said those things to put you down. Just continue to keep trying and call her out on her bs: when she puts you down just say, "Please tell me how to do it better. I am here to learn."

Even if the new grad was wrong she is A NEW GRAD. Not all nursing education is the same. Some people are fortunate to have great clinical instructors and some of us have to teach ourselves, which is really really difficult. You seem to think she should be teaching herself. If she didn't learn much in nursing school, TEACH HER. Obviously, blaming her preceptors is not going to help her, but surely you can understand what a horrible nightmare she is living now, being fired during her training trying to get a job with no recommendations. She's just venting that her work environment was hostile and cold and judgmental and from reading your post, Ruby Vee, it probably was. Precepting is teaching and with teaching there is a golden rule- positive reinforcement is the MOST effective. Just because one is a seasoned RN does not mean he or she is a good teacher or a good co-worker.

Just called them. They checked on my status and said they're STILL working on the selection.

Has anyone heard from Cedars today?

Yeah I still haven't heard anything. I think they are waiting to hear from people as to whether they are accepting the position or not. She told me give it until Friday.

She told me to give it another week. I think she was trying to tell me that they are still waiting to hear from some people as to whether they are accepting the offer. So we are in the maybe pile.

I just called, they said I'm still in consideration. This is so stressful.
