12 hr Shifts on Holidays
Hi, I was wondering if any of you had/have been working 12 hr shifts for holidays. If so, how does that work with your unit. Do you work one of the holidays, which holidays or holiday combos, and how does it work with the following years? Does it alternate, skip a year or two before you work it again? My unit is switching over from 8 hr shifts to 12 hr shifts for holidays and we are all freaking out!! Our manager didn't really get into details so we are all anxious. Please tell me what your thoughts are. Likes/Dislikes. Thank you

Getting an RN job in Utah-are the horror stories true?
I wouldn't say 8-12 months, but more like 3-5 months. I know with my graduating class (All with BSNs) there were a few that didn't get a job quickly such as that time frame. But they did eventually, some in hospitals, home health and agencies. It took me a little over a month to get my job and I had worked there for over 4 years, but that was because my manager was being difficult. If you have some hospital experience or work in one as a HCA/CNA/MA/EMT you have more of a chance to get in. But my friends who didn't, it took them about 3-5 months. FYI Intermountain and University of Utah have cohort programs with their employees so they hire them first, then their employees not in those programs, then outsiders. So they may take a bit to hire if you don't already work for them. Oh and having your BSN doesn't matter at the University of Utah hospital, can't speak for the other hospitals. But I know they don't, even with pay. Hope that helps!

Quitting during Orientation!!?? Help!!
But I would not be working at the PP unit then. I would be working on the Med Surg unit??

Quitting during Orientation!!?? Help!!
Since I am getting a lot of "don't burn your bridges and you might need to go back" comments. Let me ask this, does it matter about burning bridges if I will not go back there again? Because my husband wants to move in a yr or so to a different state and I know how hard it was to find a job here without experience/ especially Med Surg experience so whenever I do move I will not have that experience and make it harder to find a job. So I kind of think PP will not give me that experience. Because anytime any PP RN on my unit tries to go anywhere else they tend not to get hired because they "don't have experience."

Quitting during Orientation!!?? Help!!
MJB2012- I did get another offer, way better pay, set schedule rather than rotating, and closer to home.

Quitting during Orientation!!?? Help!!
To NiCgal- No it is not the same hospital. The one for Med Surg is closer to my house, like 5 mins away. I'm not really digging the PP unit but maybe LD. I don't really know what I want to do in the future I've liked everything but not really PP. Maybe because I am bored of it and feel like I there really isn't much more to learn.

Quitting during Orientation!!?? Help!!
So I have a question, can you give your two week notice during orientation and still be oriented for the last two weeks? Or can they ask/force you to leave immediately? I have only been orienting as a RN for about 3 weeks. I love the people and everything worked there for 4.5 yrs as a CNA, but want something more so I don't lose my skills. I got an offer on a Med/Surg unit which I think will help me in the long run for other future opportunities since the unit I am in Post partum won't really get me to much places. Can someone please help!?

Please HELP!! What would you do??
To LaughingRN- What do you mean Med/Surg isn't the golden key into the speciality of choice anymore?

Please HELP!! What would you do??

Please HELP!! What would you do??
I recently graduated from a BSN nursing program and it took me almost a month to get a job because my boss was giving me the run around, which was really ridiculous and long story. Just know she really slapped me in the face metaphorically and screwed me oer some opportunities. But she finally hired me. I was so excited because I had been so desperate for a job. I had been job hunting for a while before I got my license and after which was about 1.5- 2 months. But soon after I accepted the job offer I got two other interviews and they also offered me the job. I really want to stay on my unit but it didn't help that my boss was giving me the run around. Another thing is my husband and I plan to move in a year so I would need more experience than a post partum unit. The offer I got at another hospital is a Med/Surg unit and I thought that would help me for my future plans when I look for another job. Because everywhere wants Med/Surg experience. Therefore my dilemma is right now I am orienting but will need to start the Med/Surg job the end of this month. I can't decide whether to give a 2 week notice or a few days that I will be quitting? Because she could just tell me to leave immediately and I would not have any pay this month. I don't know what to say to my boss because when she hired me I told her I really wanted the job and that is where I wanted to be (only because my friends I made there and I was desperate) but something better came along. Now I fear she will burn me with her fire eyes. Please help!!!

Help A.S.A.P Please!! Need Interventions!
I have a concept care map due tomorrow morning and I had to change a goal at the last minute. History: 4 yr old girl diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder, exposure to domestic violence (father hit mother), now living at YWCA, and has a 10 month old baby sister. She was brought in because she displayed regressive behavior such as acting like a baby, baby talks, won't walk because wants to be carried, sometimes crawls. She is withdrawn from peers and doesn't really interact with them becomes really shy around them. Sometimes becomes mute when approached to communicate. So... Goal: Within one week, client will initiate appropriate outreach in social and communication skills with peers. I just need to find some interventions...please help thanks!

Need Advice on Choosing Capstone
Hi, I am having a hard time deciding where to do my capstone. I have this summer to decide but am very confused on how to determine where to do it. I've been told do it on a unit you want to do but will never get to do or just do whatever you want. Well first, I am a very terrible decisive person. Here are my dilemas. 1) After a certain crisis and vision (I know odd), I had I was determined to do Pediatric Oncology however.... 2) My husband and I are planning on moving to rural location after I graduate from nursing school so there won't be such a unit as Pediatric Oncology...... so then I got myself asking, should I do Med/Surg to benefit me for a job when I move to this place? 3) Now last dilema, I have very much enjoyed my L&D clinicals and would be planning on doing my Women's Nurse Practitioner/ Nurse Midwife in the near future so that is another option...ugh So if there is any advice from anyone that would sooooooo much appreciated. I would be very grateful. Thanks! :redbeathe
