  1. I agree with most of what other people posted... If you are punched in then you are working. Although if I am charting trying to get out then I will usually pass it on to the nurse now taking care of the pt. But if I see someone needing help (like wandering around the hospital lost or falling out of a car) then I'll help even if I'm clocked out.
  2. At my small community hospital they take newer nurses without ED experience. Plus you are familiar with the environment so I would highlight that. Of course getting certifications like ACLS, PALS, TNCC would look good on a resume.
  3. My part was recent. Thanks for the feedback. I hope I love it too :-)
  4. I use mine for both adults and peds but they make pediatric stethoscopes
  5. I love my ultrascope. I have a littman as well but I think the ultrascope is better. plus since they have so many designs and engraving available they are less likely to walk away.
  6. We have a psych team that evaluates a pt after they have been medically cleared but the primary nurse responsible for the pt is an ER nurse not psych nurse.
  7. 12 weeks is standard orientation at the hospital I work at. It is overwhelming but I think that is just part of the experience of being a new nurse. I have been a nurse for 3 years and still feel overwhelmed or unprepared at times. I would definitely keep looking though if med-surg isn't a good fit.
  8. I have been working 2 years in the ER at a small hospital. I am switching to a community clinic. I am hoping I will enjoy it but am nervous to make the change, too. I hope it worked out well for everyone!
  9. I just wanted to post my experience because I loved reading all the other posts wihle i was waiting. So...I took NCLEX June 30th. It shut off at 75 questions, took me 1 hour and 45 minutes. I had 23 select all that apply and I was sure I failed. I waited one day but finally I couldn't wait any longer and did the PVT. I got "the good pop up" and found out 48 hours after I took the test that I passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck to everyone!
