  1. I think only kcc has an LPN-RN program, you can try here: http://kapiolani.hawaii.edu/object/lpn-rn.html
  2. Actually, I'm not even sure if the ADN will be available, if everyone transfers to UH after 3 years. This is all very new and starting this fall. You may want to ask about this also.
  3. Will you for sure only be here for 3 years? KCC nursing program just changed from a two year program to a 3 year program, with the opportunity to transition in to UH manoa for 1 more year and your BSN. As for military spouses being accepted..I'm not sure. Best thing to do is email Wes or Crystalyn (nursing advisors/counslers). Wesly Maekawa ([email protected]).
  4. I can answer your first question. You should take the NLN as soon as possible (once you have prepared for it). When I took it early last year, you had to wait 6 months in order to retake it if you didn't like your score. Not sure if this changed, but from my knowledge it's still the same. You should call up UHM NLN registration office and double check. The exam was alright, I just used the official NLN study guide (http://www.nln.org/testingservices/ns/ns_gs_studyguide.htm) you might be able to order it off of amazon.
  5. Hi! Just wanted to add that KCC usually takes 40 a semester, but because HPH facilities recently restricted our clinical groups to 8 instead of 10, i'm not sure if this will effect the number of applicants in the future. Good luck for everyone that is applying though. You should first check if all of your credits will transfer, then look into taking the NLN if you haven't already.
  6. There are a couple girls in my class who had one more coreq to complete when they got accepted. Everyone else was done. Just some info :)
  7. Oops, sorry. For some reason I thought you were at KCC.
  8. SNSWTR, do you mind if I ask if you're in the KCC or LCC cohort?
  9. I know there are a few in my class who don't have any health care experience..not sure what their scores looked like though.
  10. If you are an alternate, you should get all those things done asap, because they can accept you anytime. So even if you are higher in line for alternates, if you don't have everything done and they could skip you and take the next person who has all their paperwork done.
  11. I'm in the LCC cohort. As for tips and warnings, try to stay organized as best as possible and don't let yourself fall behind, you'll be much less stressed out. Your first few weeks will be pure skills lab, with lectures one day a week. Those are fun times, so get to know your classmates really well and make good friends! :) It definitely is possible (but not ideal) to work part time. I know a few of my classmates do, as do I...but rarely more than 24 hrs a week. For me, I don't have a choice since I have car payments! haha. I work weekends mainly, so I can get most things before hand.
  12. I'm actually in the program right now, I started this fall :) It is definitely intense, that's why I'm on the fence about taking an extra class to add to the craziness. We just finished Long-term care and now we are starting acute care next week. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
  13. I applied for spring 2011, got an alternate position but didn't get in. Reapplied for fall 2011, got accepted. I noticed a lot of the alternates got in on my semester though..it seems that we ended up being short anyways (with 37 total instead of 40). Perhaps a lot of them went to UH manoa instead...
  14. I'm looking forward to the ADN-UHhilo BSN program. Thinking If I wanna take a chance and get some of those pre-reqs out of the way while i'm still in the ADN program to save time. Might end up regretting it though, all this paper work is already killing me, haha.
  15. Good luck! Having a CNA license or health care experience does give you a little boost, but there are a few people in my class who didn't have either.
  16. Do you have a CNA license or health care experience? Edit: nevermind, didn't see the second page I hope you get in!
  17. I guess we all got in..I heard they ran out of alternates or something, thats why our class only has 37.
  18. I'm at the LCC cohort. Got an email yesterday stating my clinical assignment. As for distance..it's far, but it doesn't bother me too much. I live pretty far from everything anyways...so I'm used to it. I just need my vanilla mac coffee from 7-11 and I'm ready to go, no matter what time it is
  19. I ended up getting a Littman Classic II S.E, but after your post I kinda wished I splurged and got the littman cardio. Anyone manage to get a copy of the KCC skills and standards package? I went to LCC yesterday but they were out or it didn't come in. On another note, I just got my clinical assignments today and I was assigned to Straub hospital :)
  20. Do you guys think this blue is the same as our uniform pants? http://www.scrub-source.com/product/dickies-eds-854206-back-elastic-cargo-pant
  21. So what did you guys think of the orientation? That room was freezing cold. I got kind of excited and went ahead and ordered supplies online. Going to start tracking books down to see if I can save some money!
  22. Congrats on getting into UH! Thanks for the info from your friend who is currently in the program. I was worried that I would have to quite my job right away when I started, now it seems I can atleast hang onto it until things start getting more demanding. Orientation is only one month away! I'm excited :)
  23. I don't mean to double post, but I can't find the "edit" button... In reply to "nurse oneday" I'm not sure how many slots are available... but I think it varies from 25 to 30 (according to the website)... I was told that spring semesters have more slots open in general than fall, but oh well. I find it funny because someone told me the exact opposite (more slots in the fall). I know this past spring they only allowed 30 I believe, since they couldn't have a cohort at LCC. I guess I will find out at the orientation how many were accepted this fall. Hope to see you guys there :)
  24. Wow! That is a fabulous NLN score. Good job! I got my acceptance letter on Friday for the Fall of 2011! I was on the waiting list last semester..during that time, my pharmacology wasn't complete and I had a lower Pre/Co-req GPA. Pre/Co-req GPA: 3.8 Cum GPA: 3.5ish..(3.3 at WCC, 3.8 at KCC) NLN: 135 All of my co and pre requisites are completed as of Fall 2010. SNSWTR, I suggest you take your Pharmacology during summer part 1, so you can apply for next spring with everything completed. If you want an easy A, just take it from Dr.Farmer online from MCC. I had to jam through 142 last summer just to have enough time to do pharmacology in the fall..it was crazy.
