New Job - Confidence Low
I've been an RN for about a year and a half most recently working in an ER. Oncology Nursing is the reason I went into nursing and recently I scored my dream job in an outpatient setting. However, I'm completely overwhelmed with all new medications I'm learning and I feel like a new grad all over again. It's starting to affect my basic nursing skills - It's like I'm thinking so much about new meds, side effects, labs, etc... that I'm becoming all thumbs when working a pump and piggyback lines. When I make mistakes like that it totally kills my confidence which then leads to blank stares when trying to answer my preceptor's questions - and the cycle repeats itself. I know what skills I already have as well as what I need to work on, but it feels like I'm trying to climb out of quicksand every shift. Everyday is a new day and I'm going to continue to work as hard as I can and keep studying. I guess I'm just looking for words of encouragement from some of you seasoned vets... Thanks

Hackensack UMC New Grad position
Hey I haven't heard anything either so you're not alone. I also received the same response when calling so I guess we just have to wait and see unfortunately.

Concordia College NY - Fall 2012
I do have a couple left. However, we might be putting something together during your orientation so whoever missed the last one can get what they need. I've been in contact with a few of your classmates and they will post to your fb group page when we confirm everything.

Concordia College NY - Fall 2012
Having the older editions is not detrimental, but can be a pain if a professor references a box or chart from a particular page in the new edition. In that case you could always just take a picture of it from someone else's book or from the book in the library (they have all of the textbooks there for you to use while in the library). The information from one edition to the other really doesn't change much so if you need edition 11 and you have access to edition 10 you should be fine. The book is really good to be used as a reference rather than your main source of information because most of your info will come from the powerpoints and lecture.

What kind of shoes do they consider approved? I've been looking online and all I see are nursing shoes for women. Do you know where I can find men's approved shoes?

Concordia College (NY) ABSN Fall 2010
That's a big jump in numbers, but I'm sure that the number of people applying increased as well so its par for the course. How did you go about buying books? Did you rent or buy new? Are books available to be purchased from students in previous classes? Also what other type of equipment do we have to buy aside from the scrubs and about how much does it all come out to? Thanks again for all of the info - you've been extremely helpful.

Concordia College (NY) ABSN Fall 2010
Thanks for all of the info ynabeana! Just wondering if you commute or live on campus? I'll be commuting from NJ so I wanted to know how some of the commuter students are handling the schedule. Also there are two dates for the mini orientation and I'll be attending on the 15th. Anyone else going that day too?

I received a letter in the mail today with specific dates for the orientation in June. You should be receiving the information soon.

Wagner College 2011
Thanks again for all of the info you gave. I just received my acceptance letter yesterday so I definitely have some decisions to make. That being said, I do have a few more questions if you don't mind. 1.) How did you find the financial aid situation? Did you have to take out personal loans or was there some type of aid/scholarships readily available? 2.) What was the TEAS V exam like? This is the only school that required this exam so I'm wondering how much preparation I would need for it. 3.) How is your commute? Do you live close by or dorm? Thanks again.

Wagner College 2011
Hi Miguel, Thank you for the info. Waiting is definitely the worst part, but hopefully we'll find out soon like you said. I don't have any specific questions regarding the program, but if you can give us an overview as to what you think are the positives and perhaps some negatives on the program it would really help. Are you happy you made the choice to attend Wagner? Thanks for your help!

Wagner 2011 interview
Yeah I thought it seemed like a good program as well and my interview went well. My interviewer gave me a small tour of the labs and equipment that is used. The campus is really nice and I was impressed overall, but the commute is going to be a pain. I'll have to see how everything shakes out and I might have to get an apartment by the school. We'll see. Is this your #1 choice? Where else did you apply/get accepted?

Caldwell College BSN
Don't be discouraged at all. That gpa should help you get into a lot of programs. Where else did you apply to? As for me, I have a 3.4 gpa and a BS in Biology and got into Concordia College. I'm still waiting on some other schools including UMDNJ for the fall cycle. Piscesgrl....are you going to be on the Newark campus or Stratford? I hope I get into UMDNJ so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Caldwell College BSN
piscesgrl I got a letter from Caldwell today and unfortunately I was placed on the waiting list. I guess we'll see what happens, but I'm not terribly worried since I've already been accepted elsewhere. Good luck!

Wagner 2011 interview
Just wondering how your interview went? What did you think about the program and the school overall?
-
Caldwell College BSN
Andi thank you for your reply. My pre-reqs are all done as I am graduating with a degree in Biology and applied to the fast track program at Caldwell. I hope everything runs smoothly for you as you enter your clinicals. Has anyone heard from Caldwell yet? I called a couple of weeks ago and they said they were still going through applications. I hate this waiting game...

Wagner College 2011
Hey Steph, I applied for the accelerated program and had an interview last week. I still haven't received any notice of acceptance/rejection, but it is common for the decision to take a while. If I've learned anything from this entire process, it's to be patient. Good luck!

Where else have you applied? Are you in North Jersey also?

Wagner 2011 interview
Hey I had my interview yesterday and I think it went pretty well. It was pretty laid back and I just had to talk a little about myself and answer a few of the usual questions (why do you want to be a nurse, how do you view nurses, how do you think nurses are viewed, where do you see yourself in 5 years, etc...). I was given a quick tour of the classroom and labs and that was it. The campus is nice and it has a great view. Just be yourself and you'll be fine. Good luck with your interview.

Fairleigh Dickinson University 2 Year Program- Fall 2010
Hey thanks for the kind words. I should have posted this last week, but I spoke with the Director of Admissions and they made an error. Apparently they filter out applications in the Admissions dept. and then send out either rejection letters or forward qualifying applicants to the Nursing program so they can make the final selections. Anyway the person who reviewed my file sent me a rejection letter in error. As of now my application has been forwarded to the nursing program so there's still a chance. In the meantime, I have been accepted at another program, but I'm waiting to hear from all the schools I applied to before making a final decision.

I'm a 30 year old male. Are you guys going to be commuting? I'm coming from North Jersey.
-
Concordia College (NY) ABSN Fall 2010
Hey Suzi you were right! I got my acceptance letter today and so happy. I'm still waiting to hear from other schools so I will make my decision then, but Concordia is definitely high on the list. The campus looks really nice and the commute there isn't as bad as I thought it would be so we'll see what happens. BTW any other males that got accepted and are going?
-
Concordia College (NY) ABSN Fall 2010
Oh ok that makes me feel better. I live in North Jersey so hopefully thats why it'll take an extra day. BTW what time was your interview? I was there for 11 and wrote my essay first before the interview. I was pretty surprised to be one of 4 guys that were there.

Wagner 2011 interview
My interview is tomorrow. I tried to find some information on how the interview is at Wagner, but have come up empty. When is your interview?
