  1. I started on a Med-Surg as a new grad about 6 weeks and cannot seem to grasp venipuncture or IV starts. I've had one successful IV start and one successful (although not a true success because the vein blew when I had just enough sample). I'm so nervous about the whole venipuncture process and feel I am never going to be able to do it. Any ideas on how to build confidence? Would taking a venipuncture class help? Any advice would be much much appreciated. Thanks!!
  2. We use HealthStream, Mosby's Skills and Mosby's Nursing Consult
  3. The hospital I work for requires ALL personnel (even the Administrative staff and those that have no direct contact with patients) to get flu vaccines or face suspension and/ or termination. The only opt out is medical or religious reasons. Although I plan to get my free vaccine, I do agree that you should have the option to refuse.
  4. I did too.......and I'm having the same thoughts! The interview was weird. Over the phone, a series of yes and no questions then a you're hired. Same thing for you??
  5. Remember that there are a whole slew of "identifiers" that are protected under HIPAA that go way beyond patient name (date of birth, diagnosis, test results, plus tons more!) If any of these are on your home computer, you can be slapped with a privacy breach accusation. Also, under the new HIPAA rules, patients can take legal action against individuals and not just the organization (you directly can be sued if anyone believes their privacy has been compromised!!) Your best bet is to only take what is absolutely necessary home with you. If you don't need it, don't take it. It's not worth the risk!!!
