  1. If I decided to go the BSN route, would there be a GPA cap to get into the nursing program still? Or does that just apply to ADN degree programs?
  2. I did see other posts that asked the same question that I did....sorry for the repeat, but thank you gals for the advise. I think I'm going to just go the ADN route for now, but I MIGHT change my mind. LOL.. Thanks again
  3. i am currently going to occ for my adn. i'm still doing the pre-req's but, my question is this.... i have heard alot with regard to adn and bsn. i know i can get my adn and then get a job (sometimes it can get difficult in this market, i'm aware of that), or i can just go for my bsn. i guess i'm torn. ==>is it faster to get your adn, get a job and then go back for you bsn -or- ==>would it be faster/easier to just go for the bsn right away? ==> do bsn's make more money? i'm 42 and have a steady job that pays pretty well. i don't want to spend the rest of my days in college and i know that i am not a spring chicken any more...lol. i would be in the position in about a year, (if i went the adn route) to quit my job and just use the money from my student loans/saved money, to get through the actual nursing program/clinicals, etc. if i went to bsn route, i would have longer to save money.... any advise that anyone can give me would be great!! :):):)
  4. Wow, thanks so much for all the info. I'll certainly get more info from my counselor. I just don't know how I would get all "A"s on my classes for the 3.86 GPA/ADN Program. I'm still going to shoot for it. I think I would use the LPN program as a 2nd option until I could get back to the RN. Again, thank you....
  5. i'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. i go to oakland community college (royal oak, mi) and am taking my pre-req's for the adn program. i understand that in order to get into the actual nursing program, your gpa pretty much has to be top of the line. (3.86 or higher - this year). i have recently been looking into the lpn program (i still want to pursue nursing/adn, but thought that doing the lpn would be a good idea before continuing to the adn - job prospects, acceptance into adn program, etc.) does oakland community college offer lpn programs? i see they offer lpn to adn fasttrack, but is that only for already practicing lpns? if anyone can answer some questions for me, i would really appreciate it: 1) is it as hard to become a licensed lpn? 2) do you have clinicals? 3) do you have to be accepted to a lpn program after you finish your pre-reqs? 4) if you have to get accepted into the lpn program, do you have to have a specific gpa? thanks so much
  6. Found the instructor that whos mentioned. Thanks for the heads up....I'll keep his name handy
  7. Thats funny whos, I'm actually taking a spanish class now. Thanks for the heads up. Well, I would LOVE to be done with all my pre-req's in a year (or less) and the more I think about it and listen/read the posts, I do want to do whatever I can to get all A's and taking less of a load would help me with that, but I think I can handle a few of the easier classes a couple at a time (One hard class and one easier class). Any advise on which classes are the easiest? I'm a pretty good student in general....
  8. MarieFitz, if you could msg me/email me with the name of the A&P professor, I would appreciate it. It was deleted when your msg/post was added. I would hate to get a bad professor for a hard class, it would only make the class more difficult.
  9. I was at school last night (Royal Oak Campus) and they had a ton of other colleges there; offering transfer info, etc. Madonna University and Davenport seemed like good schools and their GPA is ALOT lower than OCC but they only offer 4 year (Bachelor) degrees. My plan is, I'm going to stick it out here at OCC, I really like the school, and do my absolute best. I do plan on taking 1 or 2 classes a semester, because I work full time at this point. Plus, it may take me longer, but I agree with caliotter3, the end result is getting a better GPA and that is what I'm aiming for. Thanks so much for all the advise. I really appreciate it.
  10. I was looking at other accredited colleges and noticed that Madonna University has a low GPA acceptance for the nursing program. Not that I am saying that I would go this route, but if I give my all at OCC, I would CONSIDER it. Although, OCC's nursing program is suppose to be one of the best. Does anyone know how reputable Madonna Univerisity is? Do the graduates get hired without probs? For some reason, I see Madonna University kind of like a University of Phoenix. I'm not saying those are bad colleges AT ALL, but I'm not sure if they would be as reputable as OCC. If anyone has info on Madonna and their stats, please post.
  11. I'm new to allnurses.com/forums and I really don't have a question, more of a comment. I've been reading through alot of the posts and it is really helpful. (I'm a pre-nursing student, just starting to take my pre-reqs). I went to speak to the counselor at OCC Highland Lakes the other night and I just can't seem to wrap my head around having to get all A's in all the classes. I'm normally an A/B student, but from what it looks like, you really don't have a shot of getting accepted into the nursing program if you dont have a 3.98, which is basically all A's. I know, to me, it seems impossible right now, but if a zillion others have done it, it MUST be possible. The Chemistry & Bio classes have me a bit worried. All in All, I plan on giving it my best shot and I wish everyone luck who is still working towards their nursing degree. It has taken me a while to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, (I'm 42), but I really think I am on the right track. Good Luck Everyone!!
  12. I just went to speak to a counselor at the Highland Lakes Campus @ Oakland Community College, to get started on my Nursing (RN) Pre-reqs. He told me pretty much everything that I have been reading in the blogs/forums. He said the GPA needed is 3.89. He said getting pretty much all "A"s is what I should shoot for. Once accepted into the nursing program, there really isn't a 'Part Time'. I am almost 43 and I have been taking some classes (Only a couple count towards the nursing pre-reqs), and I have gotten all A's, but when I look at the Chemistry and Biology classes, I get a little worried. Heck, PASSING the chemistry seems like a hurdle, let alone getting an A. I know that I can always get tutoring to help with any class I'm having probs with, but the pressure of having to get ALL A's is alot, but I guess it isn't compared to Nursing School. I'm motivated and plan on giving it 110% and I know that everyone that has been accepted into the Nursing Program aren't all Math/Science Geniuses.... Can anyone give me any pointers on how to do well in Math/Science when I really haven't, up to this point, been a person that does very well in this area? Any advise would be really appreciated!!!
