Attention CSULA, CSUDH, UCLA MEPN/MSP Accepted Students
Just FYI for those interested - this is where I got accepted: CSULA, CSUN, CSU Dominguez, and some other schools. I did not get accepted to UCLA which is OK.

CSUDH Entry MEPN - Fall 2011
Well, you really should take patho before being accepted as it is quite a challenging class. You will need to get a B on that class. What good will it do for you to be accepted before you take the class and then you cannot get at least a B on that class? I believe lots of people dropped the class. It's pretty overwhelming at times. You go through lot of material in 12 weeks time.

Sciences GPA 4.0 Bachelor GPA 3.93 1/2 year volunteer in hospital Spanish and French References from RN (and 2 other excellent references, of course) Over 2 years of experience in healthcare field Degree in health You really need to have seen what nursing job is really like in order for you to be taken seriously. How can you tell the nursing school that you want to be a nurse and never have witnesses the realities of nursing? Would be nice if you were able to demonstrate that you are financially able to be out of working world for easily 1.5 years or more. In my interview I told them that I have over 45k in savings (true) and I have no need whatsoever to work during the program. I think that sold them. I am that committed to the goal. I was also told during interview that I may need to be prepared to not find any RN work for up to a year after graduating so better to have plan B in place. And I had a plan. So, I was offered a place.

CSUDH Pathophysiology Online MEPN Program Question
you will work like you have never worked before - I would advise you take no other class besides patho if you work full time like i do. It is pretty brutal. about 100 pages a week of difficult subject. Only good thing is that 52% of grades are quizzes that you can take over and over again until you get it right. There is just so much material to cover that you can pretty much forget about memorizing anything. All you can do is understand the concepts. Ultimately patho is very logical so that will help you decide on correct answers.

CSULA ELMN 2011
Looks like I won't be getting federal student loan for this year. I have too much money in savings. So, I wanted to get federal student loan starting summer 2012 and on. So, I hope that will be possible. Or, maybe I have to wait till fall 2012 for federal student loan to kick in. By that time I should be pretty poor ...

CSULA ELMN 2011
So there are no specific requirements for the student health insurance, such as maximum amount of deductible per year? Some schools require an equivalent health insurance to what they offer and that is when it gets very pricey. Is that not the case with CSULA? Can I choose any US based health insurance then? Another question about student loans. Is summer quarter at CSULA considered beginning of a new year for purposes of federal student aid? Can I walk into student aid office without appointment to get all my questions answered as it gets difficult to get through over the phone? Thanks for any guidance

CSULA ELMN 2011
More questions ... How would you apply for a job as a new grad RN if the job posting states BSN only? I understand that the first 76 units do cover BSN portion. Yet, we do not get a BSN but only just RN license. This may pose a problem when applying for jobs, especially if online application systems specifically reject those who cannot check BSN. How would you then classify yourself? RN going for Masters?

CSULA ELMN 2011
Yes, I sent my acceptance e-mail. Now I'm just waiting to see what loan rate I would get. I wasn't able to get FAFSA this year because of my savings which brings me to another question. How does everyone handle their finances? It is possible that we may need to be full-time students even up to 3 years and not work except for part-time at most.

CSULA ELMN 2011
Dear bababaowman and innatchka, Thank you for all the program. It certainly is helpful. I had some additional questions. I got accepted to the program but I am now having doubts that I'll be smart enough for the program. I do have a GPA of 4.0 but that does not necessarily equate success in a nursing program. Did you have any fears in succeeding in the program? Does anyone ever fail? If you could compare your current classes to those you took during undergrad studies, is there a big difference in difficulty levels? What is the hardest part academically? Do you study from morning through night (as in MSMC ABSN) or you actually have time for other things as well? How popular is the ANP track? What is the reality when trying to get a job as a new grad RN while completing the NP track at the same time? How do you juggle both? Kathy did state that sometimes you need to pull out of the program for a little while while working as a new RN grad. Can you study NP track part-time if your new RN grad program does not fit with school schedule? What is the schedule in general for NP track? Bunch of other schools have once a week class for NP track. What are the job prospects for grads in CSULA program? I was told at CSUN that I may not find a new RN grad program for up to a year. It's that tough out there. Thanks in advance for all the info!

I would advise you not go for ADN program. I've heard time and time again that hospitals will stop hiring new ADN grads if they haven't already done so. Please do your research very carefully before choosing the ADN path. Perhaps you want to call different hospitals and ask what their requirements are for new RN grads.

Dear Rkay, Thanks very much for your input, too. I'm still in the dark as to what the problems are. In what way the professors do not support the students? Are the clinicals or classes set in such way that they are impossible to accomplish? Is the quality of the education going down? What exactly are the frustations you are having with the program? Thanks for any guidance
