  1. I have had the EXACT same experience with HCA (immediately saying not under consideration). I applied for the Emergency New Grad Training program, I have ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP and several Psych certifications. I was also an EMT, not trying to brag but I would think I wouldn't be sent to the 'reject' pile that quick?! :) I also took the test right after I submitted my application and it almost immediately went to the 'not under consideration'. I guess I didn't answer the questions the way they are looking for?? Bummed.....seemed like a great way to break in to the ED!!
  2. I am also in the accelerated program at NYU. Please, Please, Please reconsider going to this pitiful excuse of a nursing school! I am also doing well, but let me tell you, it's because I have taught myself EVERYTHING! I don't expect to be spoon-fed material, I have 2 Bachelor's of Science degrees from another University, I know what to expect from college. Each semester is 12 weeks long, they could easily consolidate the material in to 3 semesters, but of course they don't.....they want that extra semester of tuition! The semester starts about 3 weeks after the regular students and ends a week before. Again, this is done to stretch it out. Oh, and the ridiculous classes that they put in for 'filler', one is called 'Professional Nursing' I'm still not sure what this class was about.....the so called Professor came the first day and spent 20 minutes telling us about how wonderful and talented she is, subsequent classes were devoted to stories about hospital administrations from 25+ years ago. Currently, we are required to take a class called 'Foundations of Genetics' class is at 6:30 at night, the Professor reads VERBATIM from a power point for 3 hours. Many of the students have early morning clinical on Fridays, some of the clinical sites are hours away for students and you have to be there at 7:15am. I know I'm venting, I'm just terribly disappointed, this school is NOT organized, they don't care a bit about what kind of education you are getting, they care about getting as much money from you as possible. They even charge you $100+ for orientation. Most reputable nursing programs have a 75/25 model when it comes to clinical experience. At NYU it's 50/50 you are at 'simulation' instead of the hospital every other week. These so called 'simulations' are a JOKE! The equipment is broken, the instructors, while knowledgeable are mostly new and you are basically 'play acting' with these silly broken mannequins. As the poster above me stated, they take your money and that's about the last contact you will have with anyone. I have written an email to one of my instructors 7 times and NO response!! Please feel free to ask me as many questions as you have! The facebook pages have NYU administrators and they will remove any posts that are negative so don't rely on those for help. Best of luck!
  3. I just wanted to say a huge thank you! I really appreciate the advice! Good luck and congratulations.
  4. Wow! Congrats...ER! Thats awesome! Actually, I want ER more than anything, I'm an EMT in NYC so I really love the ER! So, what was the first semester like? I am a flight attendant and I'm hoping I can fly on the weekends. From what I have read....the second semester is the hardest? Is it possible to do all of my clinicals at Bellevue? I have this strange fascination with Bellevue, I actually chose it for the first clinicals. Like I said I was an EMT and for the longest time.....Bellevue kinda scared me...not really sure why, so I chose it purposefully to face those fears head on! Anything else you can tell me about NYU would be great. What were the clinicals like? Were you able to get right in and do stuff? Thank you so much for your time and answers! BTW, where is your new job located? Congrats on everything!
  5. Thank you so much for your response. I got Bellevue for my first clinical, I actually chose it. I understand that this is an HHC? Not even sure what that means, but I think Harlem hospital is an HHC too? So, you said that you graduated from the program in january....can I ask..what did you think of the program? Have you taken NCLEX yet? Did you have to disclose the petty theft? I am so torn as to what to do. I have done exhaustive research about this stuff.....some blogs say if you have ANYTHING on your record that you are going to be out of luck finding a job anywhere and then others say things like they know someone who had a felony?? on the record and were still able to find work. The NY BON hasn't been much help, they say every case his handled seperately. UUGH! What did you think of the clinicals? Do you think NYU is worth the $$ Sorry so many questions.....I have a lot to think about! Thanks for your time! oh and congratualtions!! :)
  6. I realize that this is an old post, I'm hoping you can tell me what hospital did you choose for clinicals? I am starting NYU ABSN in the fall and have tried EVERYTHING and I do mean everything to get information about what are disqualifying events for clinicals! UGHH! I got a DUI 12 years ago and I can't get a definitive answer about this! Thank you for your time!!! I hope everything worked out for you!
  7. Hello, I am in a similar situation. I am supposed to start nursing school in NYC this fall. What was your outcome? I hope everything worked out for you! Thanks for your time, Annie
  8. I have read all of your posts...I'm so very sorry! What was the eventual outcome? I'm thinking about you and sending you positive thoughts and blessings.
  9. Thank you for your reply! So from what I understand, there are three obstacles 1. the school itself 2. the BON 3. the clinical sites. The director of my program couldn't give me a solid commitment that I would be able to participate in clinicals as each does a background check and there could be sites that wouldn't let me in! Ugh, I am so stressed out trying to decide what to do!
  10. Hello, I am supposed to attend NYU in the fall 2011 ABSN program. I was convicted of DUI 11 years ago. Does anyone know if clinicals will be a problem? Licensing? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Peace.
  11. Hi there, thank you for sharing your experience. I have been accepted to NYU ABSN program for the fall. I was convicted of a DUI 11 years ago. It was an unbelievable wake up and a mistake I would NEVER make again! I have not been able to get straight answers about licensing in NY state as to any kind of restrictions or whether I will be able to sit for the NCLEX, any information that anyone can offer is greatly appreciated. This is such a huge decision for me....the program is so expensive and I would be devastated if I got through only to be denied licensing. I know how serious a DUI is and the BON is there to protect the public from danger. I was able to become licensed as an EMT-B, a bit of paper work and an interview on the phone, I think the BON is much more difficult. Again, if anyone has any words of advice or information it would be greatly appreciated! Thank You!
