CSUN ABSn 2011 applicants
Thanks, doggymama23. Good to know I didn't just dream that. I was going to register for it but then waited when I heard we needed an id #. Going to try to register for it online today and see what happens.

CSUN ABSn 2011 applicants
Hey guys. Quick question---were y'all under the impression that we could take epidemiology this summer BEFORE we start the rest of our classes, so that we could get it out of the way? (I realize this would only apply to the fall cohort students). I thought that's what I heard at the meeting back in the fall for applying students but when I talked to them today, they seemed to know nothing about this and said that the epid is only taken the last semester. I'd LOVE to get it out of the way, though. Am I remembering incorrectly?

Pasadena City College RN program
I applied to CSUN's accelerated BSN program for a 2nd Bachelors. I've taken all of my pre-reqs so I'd be ready to start. If I go the PCC route, I'd still have to take a history class and nutrition. --another reason I'm leaning towards CSUN.

Hi Christina10483. It seems like a pretty clear answer to me. I'd stick with OU. --Esp since it's close to your family and you already have housing taken care of. Also--something you may want to think about: Texas has some pretty amazing medical centers. It's a good place to be if you are in the medical field. Obviously, LA has some great hospitals too, but jobs for new grads are scarce. LA is awesome but sounds like you have things lined up pretty well down there. :)

Pasadena City College RN program
I'm def considering that, although I'm also considering the fact that one of the main things that hospitals/employers look for with new grads is paid experience. At PCC I could keep up my volunteering at the hospitals i'm at and possibly even work as a CNA (the BSN program I got into is an accelerated program.. That could feed right into a job when I graduate and then i'd continue with on online ADN-BSN. But when all is said and done, that's not guaranteed either, so I am leaning towards the accelerated program.

yes...I've applied and got into another program and it's a BSN program. I'm happy to have gotten in, but I'm actually still considering PCC b/c it's a much better location for me and a better time frame. I'd plan to continue with a bridge program to get my BSN. We'll see....I haven't decided yet, and can't really, until we hear from PCC!

Pasadena City College RN program
Hi snookiejc. I don't think that the straight RN applicant have heard yet. Also--I think that last year they didn't hear until June, even thought they said May. I'm not sure why, though. I am hoping that was just last year and that this year they'll be able to tell people sooner.

no orientation packet. Has anyone who has RSVPed for the Basic Life Support class know what time it is at on that Wednesday?

re: living arrangements...I am planning to stay where I am, although I'm worried about the commute. I love where I live and it definitely would not be worth moving, but my commute would probably be 30-40 min with no traffic. yikes. But I know what you mean about needing a stress free environment...I think that's extremely important when in a program like this one.

Wow. Thanks perseveRaNce23. Nice explanation. I had heard about this no help but federal loans, but the rest of the details are great to know. And no, I haven't gotten my orientation packet either. I believe they are supposed to be emailed (?) this week sometime. Hope it's soon!

wrightnurse and flocknight--Thanks for the input. I actually have been researching this quite a bit and talked to several well-respected hospitals. I have been hearing that many hospitals will only hire BSNs but oddly, every hospital I've talked to (some of which CSUN does clinicals at), has said that they very willingly hire ADNs, and usually help them with continuing ed to get their BSN. All three hospital administrators I talked to, said it's really just about the person and the contacts they have made. That being said, I agree that taking twice as long to get that BSN may not be wise. I'm still figuring it out. But thanks for all input.--I even think the 'warnings' are helpful. It's good to be prepared. I want to reiterate and back up some of what has already been said....that if we have the support of our classmates and put in the effort, it will be worth it. While I am sad that an evidently good team of teachers is being broken up, we can learn from difficulty too. And I am still excited for nursing school no matter what!

While I definitely do agree that all programs have their share of problems, I am interested in Floknight and Rkay have to say. Is the main issue that they are not supportive? Is there a negative energy but the education is still good? I am asking b/c I am actually still deciding b/t this program and another but the other is an ADN degree. I know it seems silly to give up a spot in a BSN program but the ADN school I'm interested in is in a much better location where I'd want to make contacts at the hospitals there (and can do a bridge program after for my BSN). I am also slightly worried about the learning two years worth of schooling in 15 months. I know I can buckle down and do it if I decide to, but I'm still considering that more time might be best. Do any former/current students of CSUN's ABSN have any opinions about how fast you had to learn everything? I also completely agree that the most important thing is supportive classmates, and I know I will be excited about any program that I decide to do, I'm just wanting to make the best decision for me. Thanks for any input!

Hi doggymama23.....I also got into CSUN for the fall semester. Where are you planning on taking the epidemiology class? At CSUN or somewhere else? I'd love to fit that in during the summer, as well, if I can. Thanks.
