OCCC BADNAP Class of 2011
Well, I just finished my last clinical assignment, so I am done with the scrubs! School ends next Wednesday, and I will be done with my books. :) I survived BADNAP!

BADNAP summer 2012
In the first semester, Tuesday will be lab day I think until clinicals start. Monday will almost always be a study day. There will be random classes on other days of the week usually for three hours. We have classes with the traditional group sometimes, so we have to attend their hours.

BADNAP summer 2012
All of my clinicals have been on friday and Saturday's, or Saturday and Sunday, because we go twice a week. Lecture is all day Wednesday. Then there are occasional lab classes on campus, usually Tuesday and Friday the first semester. Then, there are fewer labs the other semesters. Hope that helps. Some people worked the whole time and made it just fine. Grades will suffer to a degree, but it is doable. Passin is a 74%, which doesn't seem bad until you take the test, then you pray to pass. Good luck everyone!

BADNAP summer 2012
I don't think the clinical times vary, only the location, so they can't work with you too much. Classes are 1-2 days per week, but most o the information will be online stuff you have to do at home the rest of the days. Don't expect too much free time, and don't expect all A's. Your gpa will suffer with this program. But, overall, it goes by quickly and everyone is nice. Good luck!

OCCC BADNAP Class of 2011
I am currently in the program. I bought a set of pharmacology flash cards that had good ratings and they ended up being a huge waste of money. You won't be carrying them around in your pocket the hospital, so don't bother. It would be good to review physiology-mainly the heart, lungs, and kidneys. I didn't have pharmacology or medical terminology, but they would have been a help. Good luck!

OCCC BADNAP Class of 2011
K Charles, I understand. I don't know which lab objectives go with each day. I emailed the teacher, and she said it would make more sense once classes begin. So, hopefully tomorrow we will have a more organized agenda. And, if you don't read I don't think it will be then end of the world. Think of how many of the previous students said they never read...they made it just fine. Don't worry. We will all be stressed and annoyed together.

Does anyone understand why there are ten sets of lab objectives but 6 lab classes?

OCCC BADNAP Class of 2011
I was reading through the syllabus and added a few more things to my lab and clinical checklists: Sharpie marker, bandage scissors, black pen, measuring tape (i have seen these used in some of my videos), watch with second hand, and stethescope holder (so it doesn't have to stay on my neck). I hope I don't forget anything. My lab starts on Tuesday. If you can, will you post a little about how your first lab went? Thanks.

OCCC BADNAP Class of 2011
I have made a list for what to bring to lab, and clinicals, and this is what I have for lab: Uniform, white shoes and socks, lab coat (in case I get cold), lab kit, pen light, stethescope, clipcoard (in case I need to take notes standing up), name badge (not sure on this one), and to put my wedding ring on a necklace. I don't know for sure what we need, and we may not need all of this stuff every time, I am just trying to get organized. As for the notebook, I bought a two inch binder, then filled it, and now I am on a three inch binder. I bought divider tabs with pockets. My first pocket is stuff to turn in (signed forms, etc, and I will see it as soon as I open the binder so I don't forget to turn in stuff). Also, the clear binder cover has my weekly calendars. I then have a divider tab for class notes, lab notes, the syllabus, other due assignment ino (group project, service learning, etc). I also have a tab for clinicals. I put my checklist sheet in a sheet protector so it can be removed quickly and keeps it in place and in good shape. I don't know for sure how else to organize. Once school begins, it may all change. Any ideas from you? Have you started readings or other prep work?

Anyone getting excited yet?

OCCC BADNAP Class of 2011
Does anyone else still feel unprepared? We will have so much to do, but we do not have access to anything right now. It would be nice to get started on something besides reading. I don't have any Wilkinson Videos, so I can only see what I am supposed to do in pictures, not on video. Kinda sucks. I need a better source of visuals, ya know?

I purchased by lab coats from amazon.com. They have collars, and they do not have elastic waist bands. I think they were between $20-$25 each (I bought two). They seem fine. I did not look at many different styles, I admit.

I have more than one calendar. I printed weekly calendars free from this website: http://www.blankcalendar.org/weekly_calendars.htm I went throught the syllabus and stuff, twice, to make sure I had all of the due dates correct.

I feel that I have made huge progress-I am organized! I have a calendar. I have tabs for everything in a binder. I've sewn on patched (which took forever). I did not like how the velcro made the patch stick out so much. If they get ugly, I will replace them. I have purchased everything. Now, let the reading begin!

Not yet. I am still in "getting organized" mode. Any ideas?

If anyone needs books, there is someone posting the same books on Craigslist for $275. I have mine or I would buy them. That is a good deal, check it out.

BeeDubs, I don't think book requirements changed much. I bought my books in March (which much not have been updated for the new program), and only one book changed editions. I am going to do what r1kk1 recommended and get the publishers' update for it. You will probably be fine. Should I bring my books tomorrow Will anyone benefit?

Knevans2000, You don't have to go to the bookstore to get the list of books. OCCC has a link, you select the class, and it shows required texts. I did it, and compared prices with amazon and other places to find the best deal. I don't know anything about the financial aid...sorry.

r1kk1, Sorry about your finger...I did not know. Will it be healed by the end of June for clinicals? As for the books you have, it sounds like a great way to save some money. You could look at my current editions of books if you'd like. You can see if there are any changes or make copies of some of it if you need.

r1kk1, did your friend graduate from the BADNAP in Jan?

OCCC BADNAP Class of 2011
r1kk1, I can't believe you said "binders", as in more than one 5 inch binder. That is crazy! I have a three inch binder of note from my anatomy class and I thought that is a lot of material. Are any of those books usable for the BADNAP classes? I am upset because one of the book's changed editions after I bought it, and it is too late to return. I am going to take it with me Friday and see if it will be okay to use. I have heard many people on this website recommend nursing care plan books. I am too cheap and poor to buy one...but if I find that I need it later, I will have my husband order it for me. I ordered my navy blue cherokee scrubs from the cherokee website, and I do not have a stitch on the arm to serve as a guide of where to place my patches. I am a little worried that I got the wrong scrubs as well. I will be the worry wart on Friday I guess. Anyway, I also have been reading on allnurses that students are saying to be prepared and organized before classes even begin. I don't know where to begin getting organized. I don't know which topics are being covered in NURS 1519. I have 10 books required, but there is no way I can read them all in 8 weeks. I wish I had a syllabus or something to use as a guide. So, as you can see, I am nervous. But, I feel if I have someone to talk to about nursing then I would feel a little better.
