  1. your post was exactly what I was looking for! I see this was a year ago, did you transition or have any updates? I remained at my LTC facility also and it's been 4 years now and I always ponder on going to the hospital.
  2. Havent checked out the questions or anything so cant say how good it is or anything but i saw this site that has questions on that topic, you can check it out and see if it looks helpful http://nclexreviewers.com/category/nclex-sample-questions/leadership-and-management
  3. Thanks! Im just re-entering this fall so 2 years..again lol. I completed my pre-reqs for ADN when i was in the program before, and am have almost completed my pre-reqs required for the chosen school for my BSN. I just didn't know if theres anything else I can do now that those are finished too! So I was looking into these certificates but are they acknowledged by employers when hiring is what Im wondering....if it would benefit to have them I guess. I will check with the BSN school about maybe a minor in psych or buisiness...or do minors not count for much anyways...
  4. Can someone explain what the VALOR program actually is? Is it to give people who are still students the experience many jobs require? I saw someone say they made 21$ an hour- is this before getting your RN license? I looked at their website and also see a STEP and SCEP program. Just confused about what its all about. When can you apply? Do you have to be in a BSN program....bc I will be getting my RN-BSN online. Thanks for any insight! PS my hubby is active duty army, and thats why i was interested in VA jobs =)
  5. Can someone just let me know any benefit that the certificates on ed2go would have? There are pain assessment, gerontology, end of life care, oxygenation, integrative health, legal and ethical issues, ETC. You do not have to have your RN already to take them, any insight?! thanks
  6. ECU has theirs online, thats where I choses....doing pre-reqs
  7. I work as a med aide in NC. But I actually just do the CNA job AND give their meds too. It was created to have one person doing that one job only. giving meds, (to reduce errors) but I guess it wont work like that everywhere. I work 3rd but still have to do a bath or 2 in the morn and things like that so if thats what you want to get away from check with each specific job. The test was easy for me, there was few questions that seemed tricky in their wording and I had to think about what they were looking for but I only missed a small few....and im sure you would get whatever is passing. i took mine in Wilmington. There is also a med tech, dont get them confused. Med tech does not require a class or anything, you study on your own and go in and take it. It was very easy. It allows you to work in group homes and other specific facililities. I needed the Med aid for my nursing home/rehab. And I had to take a 24 hr course before I could take the med aide exam. It lasted about 2 weeks through a community college.
  8. That is ridiculous! Hope you find something better! I work as a CNA?med aid now and make 10, with baylor pay comes to 13$. i work under a LPN and she works her BUTT off up and down that hall. I couldnt do her job for that, and from what I see the LPNs work as hard or harder than the RNs at my facility...I dont think there should be such a huge diff b/w them two either! Your closer to a RN than a CNA!!
  9. My school requires CNA before getting into nursing, so its great you want to take that anyways! I would start with community colleges...check out the ones in your area and see which ones offer CNA courses and they will probably also offer nursing. You do not need any college classes to take the CNA, I do not think it even requires a diploma (doesn't here). If you can find a school close by with these programs offered then start there and get in contact with them. They will set you up with an advisor who can get you on track! Dont forget to apply for financial aid! FAFSA.ed.gov if you live with your parents you will neeed there income and info for the app but if you qualify you will get enough money to cover all your classes. They have deadlines so check it out! Good luck!
  10. I moved and left the nursing program of a comm college in my 4th semester:crying2: Now we have moved back and i will be starting this fall:yeah: I have all my ADN co-req's and have chosen a university to get my RN-BSN completely online - East Carolina University. Its a good college here in NC. I will be finished with all their req pre-reqs to get into their BSN this summer. Heres a link to ECU's pre req's if anyones interested! http://nursing.ecu.edu/rn_bsn_transfer_course.htm So when i finish those, is there anything else i can do online in the mean time without actually having my ADN yet? This same college only requires the same pre-reqs for their masters too. I was looking at ed2go.com, there are classes on there to get certificates in certain areas, such as pain assesment. Are those helpful at all? Worth 150 bucks? http://www.ed2go.com/sandhills/SearchResults.aspx?Sort=RELEVANCE&PrevSort=RELEVANCE&SortAsc=True&CategoryId=146&CurrPage=1 Or could I work in classes for a minor? I love psychology but I am getting my ADn at a comm college, then BSM online....so not sure how that would work. Ive been though the nursing program already and could handle an extra class here and there to work on a minor or something. Lots of ? so thanks in advance for any help!!! PS- for other minors any info about office admin or business related jobs- I do not know much about different areas in nursing but after my BSN i would like some sort of office/management type job. I think. I love planning and organizing info!
