CSUS Fall '11 Hopefuls....??
one more thing, is anyone out there finding themselves having to add on additional upper division GE requirements (in particular the 9 units that MUST be completed in residence at CSUS) to their already intense nursing schedule? I'm stressing b/c I have to take Pharm in Fall '11 + 2 GE classes per my counselor's advice at the transfer orientation.

CSUS Fall '11 Hopefuls....??
does anyone know if our clinical assignment locations will remain the same for entire 2 years in BSN program or do they change each semester? also, I saw some postings regarding special interest in a clinical assignment at Veteran's. I wasn't sure if there were particular advantages/disadvantages in one clinical assignment over another. I expected all clinical experiences to be the same regardless of location...is this not true? thanks!

SFSU 2011 applicants
though May 9th was the initial deadline for those accepted to submit a letter of intent, the CSUS nursing dept is following up this week with accepted applicants that they have not yet heard back from to get a decision. the lady in the dept said that a final decision must be submitted to the nursing dept by May 16 before they start to give spots away to those on the waiting list. So definitely after the 16th maybe those waitlisted can expect to hear back from the nursing dept..so fyi.

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
I think what is most upsetting is the letter I received today in the mail from CSULB saying I was denied b/c my stats were NOT as good as those admitted into the 90 spots for Fall '11. don't get me wrong-i have NO problem if someone more qualified from the original 120 who interviewed in March were accepted, but I think we all know on this forum that that was NOT the case......CSULB should be honest in the letters they are sending out by saying, sorry but you were not as qualified as the top 25 transfers who got in. that would be more correct than saying everyone who got called back for the 2nd application process in mid-April is more qualified than all of us who interviewed in March. its' not fair for CSULB to pretend that all the 120 interviewees were considered for the 90 spots b/c we all know that is not the case.....the 120 interviewees were only considered for the 25 transfer spots...it's insulting to say otherwise.

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
hey beachbedhead - do you think CSU's will be accepting external transfers in spring? i have applied to CSUSB for Fall '11 but when i called nursing dept to ask when we'd hear back from them they said they wouldn't make any decisions until mid-july when Spring '11 grades are in. that is WAY too long to wait for me esp. b/c i have to make arrangements ahead of time to move, etc. if needed. also, i had preferred to start a 2-yr program instead of a 3-yr program in order to keep costs down, and i know CSUSB & CSULA are 3-yr programs, right? and no way would i apply to UCLA b/c they're website said slots are extremely limited for external transfers, which was a major understatement b/c UCLA ended up only accepted 1 external transfer (non-RN) into their BSN program for Fall 11.

CSUS Fall '11 Hopefuls....??
not to be a "downer" but does anyone think that what happened at CSULB for Fall 11 admissions will happen at CSUS. i.e. CSULB at the last minute (about a week before they said they would post who was accepted into the program) decided to significantly cut the number of external transfers who could be admitted into their BSN program due to budge cuts. out of the original 90 spots available for their incoming class, only 25 spots were given to external transfers w/ the rest of the spots allowed for their students only. Further, only CSULB students could be put on the waitlist. I just can't imagine how CA budget cuts can affect one CSU BSN admission so much while not affecting others as well during the same admissions cycle. ...just saying this b/c I'm sure lots of us have an idea of where we stand in our chances of getting into CSUS based on Fall 10 stats, but that may not be the case this time...i hope not. i guess we'll find out tommorrow....

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
yeh..with everything that happened this application cycle, i can NOT rely on the presumption that CSULB will allow any transfers in for the fall 12 cycle. so in the year b/w now and then, and since I have no nursing prereq's remaining, i will go ahead and try to improve my TEAS score but also take prereq's into a bio/pre-med major so if i don't get into the nursing program, i think my grades will be good enough to get me into a bio major in fall 12 and then i'll just pursue the pre-med route. i did want to be a nurse, but if CSU nursing has increasingly uncertain admissions which will only get worse as the economy worsens, at least i can be a doctor b/c med school admissions at UC's will always be open equally to all CA residents which is nice....i mean, no one can guarantee that the CSU nursing programs will not close admissions entirely to transfers in the next few cycles. i am still waiting for a decision from CSUS - where statistics from fall 10 implied i had a VERY good chance to get in for sure if all spots into their program were open competitively to everyone. but CSUS admission has been dead quiet since their application deadline, so i have a very bad feeling that what happened at CSULB has happened there...meaning i will not have gotten into any school....guess i'm just trying to plan for the inevitable. beachbedhead, did you get into any CSU BSN program aside from the one at CSULB?

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
yeh - super bad timing i guess. i heard last spring '11 admissions, transfer got in w/ lower stats b/c they allowed transfers in at the last minute. i didn't apply at that time b/c i still had speech IP but i should've just applied anyway b/c i probably would have gotten in. who knew they would only accept an unprecedented 25 only transfer students for fall '11. had i known that, i would have retaken my TEAS exam and improved my score but i thought w/ a 4.0GPA i would get in for sure. i see on this post that those w/ less GPA got in b/c they had higher TEAS scores than me. i would probably reapply for fall '12 if i knew that they would for sure reopen up ALL 90 spots to transfer students, but w/ the CA budget situation, who knows? maybe no transfers at all accepted in that cycle which would leave me out in the cold again.

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
by the way....the list posted is preliminary and it says that remaining students will be added to list after interviews are conducted, presumingly by CSULB students....

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
hey guys - bummer, i just found out that i did NOT get into the CSULB BSN program it doesn't appear that they have a waitlist, at least for transfers, so either they will take less students if the accepted decline or the waitlist will be made up of CSULB students. maybe someone can verify this later. for transfers, if you want to find out if an admission decision had been made & if you got in, call the automated CSULB phone number (562-985-2500). if a decision has been made & you've been accepted, it will tell you so congrats! if a decision and automated system does not tell you what it is, then call 562-985-5471 to find out for sure. this is what i did. good luck to all! unfortunately for me, I've used up all my backup plans. had a 9.33 (4.0 GPA) as CSULB applicant and was rejected....also rejected from other CSU's also. don't think i can wait another year to reapply again.....oh well....

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
thanks piamia4ever! could you please email it to me? i've pretty much close to giving up on nursing school at this point and spent last week trying to figure out what my plan T will be i tried calling nursing dept today to see if i'm on the list, but they had VM on. you must be soooo happy to be in the program, huh? what a relief! when did they say you have to accept the offer? did they let you know when orientation would be? from old posts i heard orientation would be in late may. were you going to try to do the 2-yr or 3-yr plan at CSULB?

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
sorry..am having internet connectivity issues. i'm a transfer and i interviewed back in march. i never had any contact from CSULB after that though. was debating on whether to drive down & look at list but i'm pretty sure that i'm not on the prelim list b/c that list will only show the top 25 transfers (who already accepted unless they get into Sac State & decide to go there instead) + the remaining CSULB students who got in. maybe i'll drive down on friday to check out list again in case it has been updated to show all 90 spots before i'm forced to pay a deposit at Sac State (though I haven't heard anything from them either)....so but i'm not that optimistic congrats to all those good luck who made the list! :) curious, did anyone see their name on the posted prelim list but did NOT get a phone call, email or letter before today about being accepted?

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
thanks for the follow up CalStatePreNursing! yeh, i think they're waiting for a final confirmation from the top 25 before they post anything officially. Congrats wannabeee! can you share your stats also? also, do you know how many people applied to the SDSU program and how many were accepted? will you be starting in the fall '11 or spring '12 semester at SD? i see alot of people are chosing SDSU over CSULB, so maybe i can apply there for the spring '12 or fall '12 semester?

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
here's some hope....if Sac State makes a decision this week (they're supposed to make one on or before April 29th), there's a good chance that may open additional spots in the top 25 for external transfers since from those I met w/ at my interview in march & from what i'm hearing in the Sac State forum, i think alot of No. Cal CSULB applicants who may have been accepted at CSULB will be inclined to chose Sac State over CSULB which is more local to them. That is the case w/ me since I applied to both Sac State & CSULB but CSULB is my 1st choice b/c it is more local (i.e. cheaper) to me....I can live w/ my parents :)

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
hey CalStatePreNursing - i know. all the back & forth in this forum is definitely not typical...its just all of us trying to work together with the bits & pieces here and there that we receive from CSULB nursing dept to make sense of the insensible :) So, assuming the 25 highest ranked applicants from the original 120 applicants brought in for an interview in march were accepted today, it's looking like there is a waitlist now of 95 students (less for each CSULB pre-nursing student who interviewed in March) for ONLY the 25 spots available AND given to external transfer students due to budget cuts. hope that makes sense :)

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
fyi - my previous posting is based on my understanding of all posts on this forum so far. so to all, please correct me if i am mistaken in any of it. also, fyi i was NOT one of the 25 called today so i'm assuming the cutoff for the 25 external transfer acceptances was somewhere ABOVE 9.33 (my score), which makes sense since many of the 25 accepted today seem to be in the 9.6 range. good luck to all waiting to hear about the finalized 25 coveted spots!

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
CalStatePreNursing - assuming only 25 spots go to external transfers and all 25 of the CSULB students that applied were accepted, they are interviewing for the 40 spots available for CSULB pre-nursing students only. Yet because only 25 CSULB pre-nursing students applied for Fall '11 semester, CSULB nursing dept needs additional time to try contact CSULB students who applied earlier and were rejected in previous semesters. so that obviously will take time since these students did NOT apply nor interview for fall '11 semester. as far as the CSULB wait goes for external transfers, the wait may be over unless some of the 25 spots to external transfers are turned down (as in the case of mrgaylordfocker). thus, it makes sense that they are contacting the 25 accepted external transfers now b/c some may turn the spot down afterwhich CSULB will probably go down the original list (of 90 accepted students based on grades only) and offer spots accordingly. By april 29th, CSULB will have a better idea as to what the final list of external transfer acceptances will be like and post that list. The other 65 spots for only CSULB students may need to be decided later since they have to go through the entire application process for them.

CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!
thanks for sharing mrgaylordfocker. can you please share your stats so i can see what type of stats CSULB is accepting for the external transfers? good luck at SDSU!
