  1. Try getting some help with your anxiety and see if it is really work that is getting you stressed out or something else. Talking things over with a therapist can help shed light on underlying causes. Don't quit your job just yet....
  2. I started at a HH agency recently and was given the "holy crap" orientation. I've been working with this agency for 4 weeks and I'm already burned out. Please take the advice of the others on this forum and request an appropriate orientation!
  3. I agree with janfrn and I would also add that giving the parents "permission " to take care of themselves by taking a break to go outside and get some fresh air, etc., can help the child indirectly as well. I know your question was specifically about helping the child but some parents feel they must spend every moment at the bedside. That can be quite draining emotionally as well as physically. I think your desire to help will be understood whether you realize it or not.
  4. I worked in Mississippi a few years ago and the overflow from the Med-Surg unit to our OB-GYN/PP and Peds unit was constant. We would be caring for Pediatric pts with RSV, 90 year olds with peg tubes, fresh GYN surg, and PP pts all on the same floor! Talk about Nosocomial infection potential!! But don't try to tell that to Nurse Managers or Administrators. They turn a deaf ear.

Can anyone quote the AWHONN guidelines for staffing in the Perinatal Unit?
