With our agency, it depends on the patient's insurance whether or not we provide all supplies, although If I know there is wound care I ask when calling to set up the admission what the patient already has. If nothing, I usually bring a few days worth until the patient can order from a supplier such as edgepark. It might be less expensive if there will be long term wound care to look into one of the supply companies instead of the local drugstore.
  2. It's not very romantic, but maybe some good support socks. Goldtoe has some nice ones.
  3. Thanks so much everyone! I think I have my enough for my card now. I really appreciate the wealth of information available on this site and the helpful people.
  4. Thanks for taking a moment to help! I had seen the information on the product you referenced, but it didn't have all the information I need. I understand that it is just a supplement, but for some reason it is on my list of required med cards for this rotation, and I would much rather spend the time researching than argue with MY instructor. I appreciate the information, though.
  5. Thank you for the suggestion, and taking a moment to answer. I am making drug cards and need all the "extra" info that goes with these things, so I'm not sure a minimalist approach will be acceptable. I'll try the drugstore tomorrow.
  6. Just need a quick answer, and for once Google is no help. I need to know the brand name of sucrose used as an analgesic for infants. My assignment sheet says "Neosweet", but Davis is no help and an internet search gives results for an artificial sweetener. If anyone can give me a correct name to research, I'd really appreciate it.
  7. We have a choice of navy or white scrub pants or a skirt, a white lab coat w/school logo, cut like a man's suit jacket, and a light blue (almost chambray) button down shirt, like a man's dress shirt for both males and females, The shirt must be worn tucked in but it is not long enough, and I seem to spend more time stuffing my shirt back into my waistband than I do with clients.
  8. I am a student just getting ready to start clinicals so I am looking for my first stethoscope, and the Carribean blue w/ the rainbow really caught my eye. It's nice to see so many others have good taste too! I guess it is a little flashy, but not too ostentatious. I'm not sure if I want to spend so much just starting out, but everything I have heard or read so far says that the Littman brand is a good quality that should last so I might take the chance. My birthday is coming up, maybe I'll ask DH for it as a gift.
  9. Wow- it can be overwhelming! I'm finishing my gen eds this summer , too, before starting clinicals in the fall, and the list of stuff can be discouraging to say the least! Take a breath, make a list, prioritize, and just take it a little at a time. I know its not much help for you now, but I got all my immunizations up to date at the local county health department. Its only $5.00 a visit, or free if you meet income guidelines. Someone I know told them she once had a positive PPD, and they did those for her for free, also. I got lucky and was called in for a drug screening for my job. I checked with my school, and they said as long as the screening was within the year they would accept the results. So, I just got a copy and will be sending those in. I know our local Red Cross offers discounts on CPR ( I paid 10.00 last time I re-certified ) for people who need it for volunteer work in the community, so if you help with scouts, little league, etc. you can get trained inexpensively. If your school is not too picky about uniforms ( unfortunately mine is ), you may be able to pick up second hand (or sometimes brand new) uniforms at yard sales and thrift stores. I frequently see nice scrubs for 2.00 or less, and just last week saw a brand new pair of those really expensive clogs- starts with a D- for $20.00 at a yard sale. Asking friends to look out for these things is a help, too.
